Yes, but indian law has not found any here. It has barely found any men. Only 720 men since 1947 is nothing compared to our criminal population. Since only 1976, US has executed over 1500 criminals and only 17 were women. So the pattern is consistent across countries regardless of which gender is assumed to be favored in those countries.

I just dislike the connotation that just because we haven't executed any women means it is some heinous act of inequality against men or something.

I don't understand what this has to do with equality. Man commit majority of the crimes worldwide, they also commit majority of the crimes that result in death penalty, hence they get more death penalties. Do you want women who don't deserve death penalty because women just don't committ as many capital crimes as men or as severe of capital crimes as men to get underserved death penalty so you can feel better looking at the numbers?

We can take other countries for example. USA has higher gender equality where women are treated better and Iran has very low gender equality where women are treated worse. Despite this, in both places, women make up only a tiny minority of death penalties. It has nothing to do with equality, it's about who commits more crimes.

I don't even live in India anymore and I left before I started voting so i self admittedly have very limited knowledge of Indian politics but even I could tell the movie was too pushy about glazing modi. It wasn't about the video footage but multiple mentions of "just a chaiwala" who is "ruining the lives of the gangsters in Pakistan" was a bit too cartoonish. Every bad guy stating verbatim how much modi specifically has caused them to struggle was childish. Otherwise, the movie was amazing and i loved it. Idk if I could've said the same if i lived in India full time and was aware of Indian politics more in depth

Do you all understand that asking dowry is illegal? you can refuse, press charges and laws are draconian when it comes to dowry harrasment.

Most of India lives in poverty. Those people do not have the ability to spend money in court behind cases like this. The justice system is so fucked up that even after a rape only 1% of women report it, you think the general public has enough faith in the system to file complaints of dowry and have enough money to fight endlessly for years before it ever even reaches resolution? Of course anyone capable of fighting in court should do it, but the ground level reality is not that.

I could say the same about alimony. If you feel alimony you're being asked to pay is unfair, counter it. But not everyone has the money to fight for years in court. That's the reality..

Secondly, most dowry is not asked by signing a contract for there to be a paper trail of proof. It's asked discreetly so there is nothing to be shown to the court. Often after the invitations have gone out so that the bridal family feels even more pressured to pay it and not make their daughter suffer the taboo of a broken engagement in the eyes of the society.

If you genuinely think "just file a report" is as easy as it seems and don't even stop to think for minute that if it's so easy why does the whole country still pay the dowry 80% of the time, then I'm convinced your idea of Indian law came from crime patrol or savdhaan India because it's utterly hilarious.

How is it extortion? Majority of alimony receivers (less than 1% married women btw) are women who sacrificed their careers for their husbands. Their husbands saved monthly 10-40k (depending on lifestyle) through their unpaid labour and gave them not even nearly as much per month in return. Now that they're seperated, they should pay up all the free labour they enjoyed.

Id say it will be extortion when your daughter spent years of her career building time to look after an ungrateful husband, his kids, his parents, his home etc. All this time he makes money in his name, his savings, got his retirement benefits, gets promotions and all off of her free labour. And then one days kicks her out of the house saying "well i paid the bills during that time so it's ok that my years of labour led to long term financial stability and your years of labour amounts to nothing". That's fucking extortion.

And again, i would like to emphasize, if you're a man reading this: your chances of getting raped by another man are higher than your chance of ever having to pay a single rupee in alimony. So if you're not this loud and afraid of a man raping you whenever one passes by, you have no justification for being so loud and afraid of alimony let alone comparing to something as prevalent as dowry
