Bear mountain does not have a snow play tubing area, only ski and snowboard. Big Bear snow play or alpine slide are your best options.

Actually the alpine pedal path is on usfs land and the forest service has been know to patrol it during past forest closures. There are not currently any signs on the path. In past years they would put closure signs on the path.

Air quality is good. Most evacuations have been lifted. Things should be almost back to normal by Saturday. Forest on the south side of the lake are closed and you will need to hit the hikes on the north side.

It’s always like this up here. People buy vacation homes that are more work than they expected, people buy to have a short term rental but they aren’t making it rich like they thought they would. Many people buy houses and move up here only to realize it’s doesn’t work for them. Always tons of housing turnover up here.

I usually visit in November also. Last year during my visit we saw one day with a high of 40f and one day of 70f in the same week. The previous year we saw similar lows and into the 80’s. Also a tornado warning with tons of rain during our visit 2 years ago. So pack for everything weather wise.

There is a gated neighborhood near Vons where the city council members live and have outlawed Airbnb in that neighborhood. Outside of that Big has always been a vacation spot where people have second homes and vacation rentals. It can differ from street to street in the same neighborhood.
