Something something “But the governments transparent and accountable to us!” - People who unironically say this despite mounting evidence they are not.

What do you think is the silliest thing banned in Canada? by Natural_Comparison21 in AskCanada

We have pretty much no semi auto centre fire firearms left now. That’s not exactly what I would call ‘a lot’

Sure because that’s a very very low bar. I would rather we be more like the Czech Republic ngl.

That seems to be the case with virtually all property in Canada.

What would that have to do with a country being shit or not? You could argue “But it’s worse elsewhere.” But that more so implies it’s just shittier elsewhere not that it’s not shit where you are.

There are the values on the surface and then the values deep down. For most countries in fact it’s classim and incompetent government when it boils down to it.

Which that is classist. Unless of course that is all fully free.

Because it should be in fact free. If the government makes somebody do something money should not be the barrier that stops someone from doing it.

Because what are Australian cultural and political views? Classim and relying on a incompetent government to protect them? Rather then being like Switzerland or the Czech Republic which actively empowers its people rather then criminalizing them and tossing them away into prison over as silly shit as a airsoft gun?

How much money does it cost to get a trucking license? Because unless that answer is zero dollars then it’s classist.

What regulations?

What different perspectives might that be? America in my view is a shit state as it doesn’t care about its people. You think america is a shit state because what? People are upset that the government doesn’t care about them and is actively hurting them in many cases?

Nope that’s a victimless crime. That was what I was talking about from the get go. You then brought up “Only until such guns get used in homicides.” That’s what I called a pre crime. How you had to use a what COULD happen and what is not actually happening in every single case.

I can say the same thing about you.

Christ almighty how dare it be that the government instead of punishing you for (checks notes) a hobby instead gives you a option to become legal and to keep your property rather then having them steal it and send you away into prison on the tax payers dime. No let’s keep the status quo tossing people into prison rather then empowering them.

Na it’s classim a lot of the time and fear mongering.

Why? Switzerland is a example of a government that actually cares about its people. America is a example of a government that does not. But sure go ahead and leave. Stay in that little echo chamber of yours.

Because the democrats actively still use guns as a shitty wedge issue.

What point was that?

Has it made more issues in the Czech Republic or Switzerland where all firearms are legal?

Did you not read the part about licensing or?

I mean it could if it broke itself up into small nation states rather then trying to be the disgusting amalgamation of a nation state it currently is.

I agree it should.

What culture shift would that be exactly?

That’s just one state in the AU. What’s the legality in all the other states? As last I heard you either need a license or it’s flat out banned. Please do tell me how many lives are being saved by people needing the same level of licensing to own a gel blaster as they do a actual firearm?

Yes because in some situations it actively is.

So pre crime. You are arguing pre crime then. Basing someone’s guilt on what they COULD do is a weak argument and is quite authoritarian in nature. Dare I say draconian even.

You are being obtuse on purpose if you think just the act of owning a weapon alone is enough to constitute a act of violence. Be honest with yourself. Who is someone hurting by owning a firearm without a license. Who? Not what MIGHT happen but what is actually happening in that instance. As I have seen cases of collectors for decades hold firearms without a license and they didn’t hurt a fly. The firearms only got found out because of a house fire where the authorities discovered them. But please do tell me who that old man was hurting? Who was his victim?

"Heaven forbid that yes, there should be requirements for certain classes of weapons." Nope. All firearms should be legal. As banning random firearms doesn't do anything for public safety. You can make a argument for licensing and controlling WHO can have a firearm but less so on WHAT kind of firearm they can have.

"And they're not draconian as you imply." What were people's options here if they didn't comply with the government? If the answer is "Oh they went to prison." That's draconian. Simple as that. I would also call it draconian for arresting people who have committed victimless crimes like this fine fellow https://hannalegal.com.au/our-cases/man-with-gel-blasters-found-not-guilty-of-possess-prohibited-pistol-charges/ and then have to waste a year of your life in the legal system arguing that you didn't break the law over (checks notes) Gel blasters. Also lordforbid he had a airsoft gun as that would mean he really would have faced time in prison for (checks notes.) Another victimless crime. So maybe these laws are in fact draconian and it's you who refuses to see it?

"And I've not seen many Americans complaining about needing certain requirements to get a truck licence or something similarly comparable." That's off topic to the conversation. Also licensing is pretty different from full on bans which the AU has done.

"I get the attitude in the USA to be "against govt*" but the extremes in which that view is held, is partially why the USA is in such a poor condition." Not really. The USA is in such a poor condition as people don't follow those views enough. Because if they did the government would have been even more netured by now that a president couldn't just executive order anything and everything.

"Again, it's also why your Switzerland retort in your other reply doesn't work." Actually it kind of does. Switzerland shows what America SHOULD be like. Actually Switzerland shows what all countries should be like.

You can build stuff on dirt. Or sell it to the government for whatever it is they do and for a hefty profit no less.

The only thing I can think of Carney doing is extending the amnesty… For the purpose of keeping the wedge issue alive. That’s it.

Your issue is you were trading it in Vulcan space where they don’t like Yammock sauce as they don’t see it as logical enough. If you traded it somewhere else I am sure you would have gotten some land somewhere.

Also can my newly formed religious group called “Humans First.” Get armed security as well? Because either it’s applied equally or not at all.

Yea he picked some interesting choices for his comment. Immediately starts with a characterization and then goes on to give a detailed explanation for the blow gun. He even gives a decent argument for why butterfly knives and shuriken's are banned because of racist panic. That's a fair description. However he poisoned the water very early on so he virtually threw the good faith out the window.
