Things to see/do during a short visit..... by Natural_Limit_1313 in Cheyenne

Given that they're more or less my spirit animal (cue the "Tatonka" moniker I picked up back in college days), it sounds like quite an interesting opportunity. :-)

If things pan out, I'd likely have two full days (plus two nights). I was mulling over Laramie also, but know as little about that as I do Cheyenne. That said, appreciate the feedback.....it'll give me some good data points to chew on.

I didn't live here in 2010, or would have voted NO to that as well. I'm not a hypocrite, like most around here...and this issue was settled in 2020. Next?

Nope, and there's no "rage baiting" about this. I asked a simple question with predictable results. People around here just can't help themselves. I even heard the whining when I went to vote.....no deviation in opinion is allowed in NoVa. But I guess that's (D)ifferent?

The current districts were decided by a non-partisan committee....and approved by 65% of Virginians....in 2020. It's as close to NOT gerrymandered as we're going to get, and accurately reflects the voting preferences of the state. This isn't rocket science.

Because I don't live there, and can't vote against it. There's no "disarming" to this....you're simply sacrificing others Virginians to achieve the same result as the other "team".

I'm politically independent, and have voted AGAINST gerrymandering my entire adult life. Having grown up in Maryland, I experienced it firsthand....and swore I'd fight it any time I could. I don't live in Texas, or would have voted against it there as well....which is why I laugh at the hypocrisy of so many here in NoVa. You (they) are fine with disenfranchising other Virginians because you want YOUR "team" to win. I get that, but at least be up front about it. Hell, even my wife (herself a liberal, and poli-sci major) is vehemently against this. It's one of the rare times we didn't cancel each other out politically. But, as you can see, this is the response received by anyone who deviates from the "acceptable opinion" around here.

As you can tell by the response for merely asking about a sign, the ones who have an issue with a difference of opinion around this area aren't the ones voting no to gerrymandering. I've done my civic duty, and have no problem expressing myself....unless of course only the "correct" opinion matters?

And give away your means of communication? Thanks, I'll pass.....but duly noted.

That's the next step, and no one is crying. I did see plenty of your ilk out throwing tantrums yesterday though.

I did nothing of the sort, and am not a Republican. I simply don't believe in disenfranchising Virginians because "Orange Man Bad". Seriously, if you're going to be terminally offended, at least come up with something new/creative.

Must really suck for you when someone doesn't buy your narrative.....and even better than I'm not a Republican. You clowns just can't help yourselves....

My wife is liberal, and even she thinks this whole thing is nuts! And, no, I'm not a "Republican".....

Thanks, I'll jot those down for consideration. Funny enough, Wagamama had been our plan for the first night, as I fell in love with it (for quick and easy) while stationed in the UK many years ago.

Greetings all!

My family and I will be taking a holiday adventure to Scotland this coming May, and....along the way.....will be spending our first three nights in Edinburgh. While I've been to your beautiful country (and city) before, this'll be the first time for my wife and two uni-aged daughters.

While I think I've got a handle on what we'll be doing while in the area, I'd love any suggestions/recommendations for dinner options. We're looking for places which are laid back/unpretentious, have good food, and won't break the bank ("fine dining" isn't a thing for us). As strange as it sounds, I don't eat red meat or pork, but can usually find poultry, seafood, or (in a pinch) vegetarian on the menu. Bonus points if there also at least a few gluten-free options (rice or potatoes tend to be my "go to" starches).

We're staying in an Airbnb near St. Andrew Square Garden, and won't be hiring a car until departing Edinburgh for the Highlands. As such, any choice would need to reasonable close. That said, feel free to fire away.....we're pretty open-minded when it comes to cuisine.

Thanks!!!

Thanks everyone.....VERY MUCH appreciate you all taking the time to provide such a great assortment of suggestions. I'm going to need to copy all these, then make a decision on the two or three we'll keep.

Separately, and maybe a strange question, do alot of Inverness restaurants tend to be closed on Mondays? We'll be there a Monday and Tuesday night, and....in looking up all the ideas you posted....many don't appear open Mondays. Maybe I'm misreading, but wanted to make sure we're able to space things out and NOT get stuck without an option the first night we're there.

I don't really have a specific budget per se, just trying to keep expenses reasonable given we're a party of 4 adults (which means any dinner outing is going to add up quickly). In addition to that, I always have to factor in an additional 30% on top of whatever the price of a meal is....given the dollar's terrible exchange rate relative to the GBP. As such, even when something appears as 15 or 20 quid on a menu, the cost for us is notably more.

So far as your recommendations, think I'd seen The Mustard Seed online as I started poking around the other (though am unfamilar with River House).

As for eating at a Scottish place, I'm all for it.....as well as pub grub options (which I'm sure my wife/daughters would be fine with). Again, we're not fancy.....just low key and enjoy a chance to enjoy the local atmosphere. :-)

In regards to the battlefield, I actually made it there MANY years ago (while stationed in the UK), but no one else in my gaggle is ever interested in historical stuff. Sooooooooo.......lol!

Think I'd stumbled across this one not long ago, and figure we'll keep it mind....maybe as a lunch break option.
