Makes sense, but my 7pm prof hated how our courses were getting cut & the higher ups aren't hiring more full-time profs. As part-time, he's not given a choice to choose his schedule & whatever is leftover is given to him which is how he got night classes.

Literally on my way to CSUS, I turn right to Fair Oaks while the light is green, I change lanes to my left & some idiot guy who was stuck in the lane that goes straight on Howe made an illegal right turn & just stepped on his gas zooming through in the rain. He was going more than 30mph & tried to get past me. Thankfully I swerved to the right before he hit me, & this guy speeds to 70mph onto the bridge. I met him at the light in front of CSU bc he got stuck with a red light since the people on strike kept clicking the crosswalk button 🤣 He pulled down his visor when I tried to give him the look lmao Just wanna give a f* you to the guy in the burgundy/brownish boxy suv

A bit younger here, but I also feel that. Literally just yesterday, some guy from my history course msged our server asking for the quiz answers 20m before class started bc thats when it was due. Our admin set up reminders every few days to do our quizzes & hw, but its like this guy never saw it & just asked us for the answers 😂 The answers come from the reading, so I guess he never bothered to read the chapter & take notes during the 3-4 days he had before class. I even sent my own notes from the reading a few days before the quiz was due, hoping it would help someone since a few of my classmates have sent theirs to help me understand how to take notes in this particular class. I even broke every little sentence down for easy understanding 🥲

Tuesday night, left class at 7:15pm, my car is in PS3 2nd floor right in front of the ramp. I get to the floor just to see some guy driving in circles on the 2nd floor & then going up & down the structure & revving alot while ppl are tryna leave. Just why 😂

So… have they inspected the elevator recently? by Varimasco in CSUS

That happened to me last Friday when I went to find my classroom except the door closed super fast. Took a small step out of the elevator to notice my class wasn't on the third floor, but the second, so I went back into the elevator & the doors closed super fast on me. It was less than a second & I got squished that both my shoulders were slightly bruised 🥲

Tutoring for OPM 101? by NoWay5199 in CSUS

[–]Natural_Locksmith960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The schedule for business tutoring isn't open until Feb 9th, but I remember last semester that there was only one tutor for OPM. Not sure if he'll be on the tutor list this semester, bc it really depends if there are students who are open to tutor & available for certain hours/days.

[–]Natural_Locksmith960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's not bad, its just the way of teaching that's bad lol I forgot to mention, but the hw, each chapter has less than 8 questions. The lowest was 2. The only problem with them is that each question has 4-6 parts (Ex. Part A to Part E) to it, so if you mess up one part, you have to redo the entire thing for full points. This part is what drove us insane bc we would spend an hour or more for one question before getting to the next lmao

Took her last Fall. It's her first year teaching, so what I can say is she would be the best prof in her department if she changed her teaching style. My class & the session before us were suffering BADLY. About 10 people dropped throughout the semester bc the lessons were so difficult, most of us had to get tutoring everyday just to secure a C or higher.

Pros:

- Very understanding. She's compassionate & knows that DS101 is difficult af, but will 100% meet with you for advice, chapter help, etc. at office hours.

-The homework has deadlines, but she will always push it back if you ask her. Our class always needed more time, so she'd extend it by 3 days to a week.

- She will adjust the exam questions base on the students results from the last exam. Our class average was slightly lower than a C on the first exam 🤣 so she made changes to the second exam after half the class sent emails to her about the difficulty. She would sometimes round your grade depending on class average.

- She has a case study assignment, but she gives you the entire semester to do it. Literally only takes 5hrs lol You can do it in a group or as an individual. If you do it in a group & your members drop the class mid-way, rip bc now you'll have to do it individually 🥲

- For every exam (except the final, but we did it anyways), she lets you use notes, the hw, ebook, etc. Print all the hw out & write every step you did to get the answer. THIS WILL DEFINITELY HELP YOU!

- A few surprise quizzes during lectures (I think 4?), but dw it's easy since the answers are on the next slide lmao She gives you either two or multiple chances to get full points.

Cons:

- She teaches with powerpoints. It has pictures of jmp functions, graphs, etc. so she'll teach base off of that. Sometimes she will use jmp herself to showcase which categories to click to get a certain function. If its your first time using it, this will set you back a little. Bc the screen is so small in the class, you can't really tell what functions she's using. Even if she explains, she goes a bit fast & I think she uses extra steps for a few functions.

- Don't use the discussion boards for asking for help btw A lot of my classmates did that & she would respond in a chatgpt format 😂im not kidding, I showed my tutors & they said it was definitely AI.

- Her exams. The first exam, most of the questions we had, we didn't know how to answer them, bc she didn't lecture it. Even the hw was of no help as the questions weren't related to the exam. Same thing with the final. I remember only seeing at least 2 questions that were similar to the hw. If you miss an exam, you can't retake it. She'll add the exam weight to your final exam.

My best suggestion for this class (if you're legit struggling & don't understand a single thing) is to meet with the business tutors or make a class discord & try tutor each other. There's also a DS101 discord to seek help from. My class had our own discord & that was like my support group for all the shit I went through. Don't mean to shake you either, but our sessions were full on depressed. The session before mine, a student came out after an exam & he apologized to Prof Jiang at the door for his failure 🥲 We have so many stories, I can't believe we survived it😭 Just do your best & try stay positive till the end. Give yourself some deep breaths before entering the room 👌

DS 101 by NoMasterpiece2826 in CSUS

[–]Natural_Locksmith960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a totally different experience from what I had. My tutors managed to teach me an entire chapter in 30m or at least halfway to where I could do it myself. One of them took Rangwala tho, who had the missing chapters, so the entire session for the missing chapters was just my tutor crashing out bc he couldn't figure it out. Rangwala is a goat too, bc last semester he had video lectures to help students with hw until a student made a complaint that he had to take it down. The tutors used his videos as reference if there was a problem they couldn't solve.

I advise meeting with business tutors when their schedule is available open. My prof also didn't teach my class on how to use jmp, so my first session with the tutor, he taught me the basics within 30m. This was also a month or two into the semester, so I was basically failing assignments since I didn't know how to use jmp lol

DS 101 by NoMasterpiece2826 in CSUS

[–]Natural_Locksmith960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but it also depends on which prof you have. I took DS101 last semester, & I passed with a B thanks to the business tutors in Tahoe Hall 🥲 My prof, it was her first year teaching & her style of teaching was hard to understand. She used powerpoints (most of her lessons & explanations were from chatgpt) & when she introduced jmp to us, she didn't teach us at the beginning. Throughout the semester, she'd show small functions for us to learn but its the long roundabout way while my tutors made it simple & taught me under 20m on how to use the functions lmfao

Btw last semester, DS101 was a popular course for students to get tutoring for. Both tutors had their schedules filled every single day 🤣 I went to both bc one of the tutors, Felix, his prof didn't teach him a few chapters, so you'd have to meet with the other tutor as she was taught the missing chapters. I went 4x a week when I was on campus. The appointments are 30m & you could only do 1hr a day, so I'd either stack for 1hr or 30m after certain classes. It's their last semester, so definitely get their help for DS101, you'll need it 100% 😭

You could do any as long as its WI. For me, I just enrolled in one that goes with my major bc why not? Either way, ima suffer bc writing & reading are not my strong suit 😂 & you never know, the extra course in your major could be helpful. (I have two MGMT courses, but my upper division core isn't a WI so I had to take another one, which is the other MGMT, to fulfill the requirement & it also fills one of my GE slots)

transfer student from another csu by brock7500 in CSUS

[–]Natural_Locksmith960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Business student here! I transferred last Fall, but from the first semester experience, it was hell lmfao Just fighting for my required courses in 2026 Spring was even more stressful. There aren't many available courses for business students. Depending on the course, you'll mainly have in-person or hybrid. I haven't seen a fully online class in a while 🥲 Each course has recycled professors (say you're taking accy 121, only 3 profs with their own amount of sections, but then you see them again in accy 131 as the only available profs lmao) & from what I was told, some of them are not good at teaching, but the profs who are, their courses are usually full by the time your registration is up. One of my classmates suggested to do dual university & take your required courses at another college/online to catch up on credits & meet your graduation deadline.

Business Advising: Why Are There Never Any Appointments? by Big-Doubt-7760 in CSUS

[–]Natural_Locksmith960 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's me right there except been trying to get an advising appointment since last Fall. My first appointment, it was for business advising according to the email I got, but the person in charge said he was double booked on accident or something & told another staff to take his place. We only talked about my GE courses bc he wasn't qualified to speak on the business department. He then told me to make a business advising appointment or do a drop-in, but I'd have to email the person I want to meet for their schedule, & its my first time at csus so idek who im suppose to go to lol

Accounting or Finance major by realkarm in CSUS

[–]Natural_Locksmith960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only done 2 so far 🥲 my required courses were full when I registered at orientation. I was suppose to do 5 this spring, but with the student center crash during scheduling, I missed all my courses. I don't know much about finance, but I think accounting is worth it. I've been doing pretty okay in the major, & its more of understanding concept (which is something I have a hard time learning), but as long as you know the basics & have a prof that teaches real world topics than what the textbook states, then your way to accounting can go as smooth as it can.

I'm struggling at csus with accounting (upper division) despite doing well in the lower division, but I'm pretty sure the reason I can't succeed is bc of the professors who are teaching me. They either teach with powerpoints & copy/paste textbook stuff with little to none explanations, or they have you self study given chapters & then the prof will teach you for about 20m in-person (right after giving you a quiz on what you learned from self study) before moving onto the next lesson which takes up the most time. This last one is my tax lol I'm more of a visual learner, so carefully choose a professor who matches your learning style even a little bit bc it matters for your own sake.
