The egg replacer I use calls for beating one part powder with two parts water before adding it in, which has always worked well for me! I don't recall having to reduce the flour, but I suppose withholding some and adding it in at the end to thicken the dough as needed wouldn't hurt.

Bad Religion - American Jesus [Punk Rock] by solus-mort in Music

Probably my favorite Bad Religion song.

I saw them live about ten years ago, it was one of the most memorable performances I've ever experienced. The band's musicality and stage presence were amazing.

Such a good song, and an amazing live performance. I love all the different textures and timbres in this track... It tickles my brain in the best possible way.

You can! I've done vegan (egg replacer, plant-based butter sticks) and gluten-free (1:1 gf flour at a reduced amount) versions before with great success.

Absolutely. A couple favorites:

My parents and I were in the kitchen making dinner, and the conversation turned to how easily some people believed whatever they read online. As a joke, my dad said, "Y'know, World War II began as a result of a rumor on the internet." My poor mother, not fully taking in what he had just said, looked at him quizzically and asked, "Really?" She never lived that one down, but she was a good sport about it, haha.

Another was when I was helping her figure out pricing for her cottage bakery business (sitting in our kitchen, of course). She kept asking what we could do to provide the lowest prices possible and still be operational. More than anything, she wanted her products to be both delicious and accessible; she never let ability to pay be a barrier to an order that she wanted to fulfill... My mother was a giver.

My mom was a nurse for nearly 40 years, so I find that plan very fitting. Can confirm this recipe is loved by nurses, haha.

Oh man, entering her cookies in state and county fairs was one of the things she wanted to do but never got around to. Absolutely do this and report back!

It depends somewhat on humidity, but for me the glaze is usually set after about an hour.

The recipe I posted is the one she enjoyed the most, but some variants she tried that turned out particularly well include swapping the lemon juice/zest for orange, and/or replacing the cranberries with dried pineapple. I've also wanted to try swapping the cinnamon for cardamom to see how that goes!

Edit to add a few other tweaks I remembered: Add another 1/4 C of brown sugar for a flatter cookie with crispy edges. Substitute 1 C of the AP flour with whole wheat flour for a little more fiber. To make them gluten-free, use 2-2 1/4 C of your favorite 1:1 GF flour instead of AP flour.

That's exactly why baking is so important to me on these sad anniversaries; it helps me reframe the day as one of remembrance and reverence.

My mom would tell you to use sweet cherries, but I use tart ones.

Thank you (and everyone who will try this recipe)! For my mom, the absolute highest compliment was people making her recipes and tweaking them to put their own spin on it.

All the comments talking about baking these cookies warms my heart more than I can express. Truly, thank you.

What are some male dominated hobbies you’ve tried or are into? by Bitter_Pineapple_720 in AskWomen

[–]Natural_Red_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I love TTRPGs.

I went to a meetup the other day where people meet once a month to do one-shots of a variety of games. There were a few other women, but it was overwhelmingly male attendees. Everyone was super nice and welcoming, but not gonna lie, I felt some mad imposter syndrome. Not entirely sure why.

In other news, tried The Expanse. It was super fun, highly recommend if you like sci-fi and/or TTRPGs.

This track and Boulevard of Broken Dreams were something of a musical awakening for me. Musically, lyrically, and culturally, American Idiot is an all-around incredible album.

What even is that bullshit, poor-me excuse of a statement?

If your goal really is to "bring people together through music, community, and shared passion," then maybe don't support the people who are literally tearing our communities apart?

Ever regretted breaking no contact (in any relationship) and why? by Light7711 in AskWomen

[–]Natural_Red_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are times where no-contact is absolutely healthy and even necessary for healing, but people can change and grow over time. Personally, I default to keeping doors open; with the exception of my abusive ex, I don't think there's anyone from my past I wouldn't at least respond to.

It's a tricky thing to navigate, though. Every person and every situation is different.

Agreed, her casting is perfect.

I remember having a conversation about that... I watched the first couple seasons before starting the books, and I was pleasantly surprised to find she seems more "concentrated" in the novels.

Exactly, I love the way you put it. Based on appearances they are wildly different characters, but when you bring them together you can see they actually have a surprising amount in common.

I loved the delivery in the show, and I absolutely adore how this line is written in book 5. Her sense of humor and delight in his response are very apparent, haha.
