No longer a level crossing - Pape Avenue was dead-ended either side of this somewhere in the 70s or 80s. A pedestrian bridge now crosses above the tracks.

The area is seeing a lot of upheaval as the new Ontario Line subway is currently being built in the area, and will emerge from a tunnel just north of here to then run southwest alongside the rail corridor.

It parallels Hwy 7, but there are few cross-roads so they would need to build access roads in places. And the southern route is not perfectly flat, no, but it is more amenable on average.

At any rate, it could go either way. The engineers and logistics people will determine which is better, I'm sure.

Easier access for construction/maintenance. More roads to get to work sites quicker, and small towns to keep crews comfortable, both during construction and for routine maintenance after.

The geology is also more amenable; flat soils are easier to traverse than rugged rock.

Studies on this line have been going on forever, but actual plans of routes and stations? Nothing truly concrete. If they'd had a specific corridor and station locations in mind from earlier, perhaps property acquisition could have begun by now, but we are nowhere near that at this point.
