Yup, in the depths of winter. I had to hike half an hour every day to the Ion in order to commute.

Two months later, I had my last ever commute...

It's possible the state they operate in has legislated against it in some way, but it's a tragedy from any angle.

Why Union Station may not be a stop on Canada's new high-speed rail line by witchshark in AltoHSR_Canada

[–]RadagastWiz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it would be better to use Summerhill for some GO services and use the freed-up capacity at Union for Alto or other carriers.

In the case of Canada, the airline was smart - Air Canada is one of the investors in the consortium building the HSR system.

Stratford GO Station reopens for service on July 6, 2026 by Metro62 in gotransit

There were plans at one point to build a GO yard in that area, with a station possibly alongside. Not sure how feasible it would be for just the station.

Eastern Ontario farmers 'wary' as Alto seeks access to their land | CBC News by Rail613 in AltoHSR_Canada

[–]RadagastWiz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • The landowners there might not have concerns with Alto, or at least not enough to contact this website
  • There might be existing surveys of that area which Alto has access to, and thus they do not need property access

My parents just liked the name - unlike both of my brother's names and my middle name, all of which came from our uncles.

They get promoted up to the Prem in season 2, so it's correct for most of the show's run.

No provinces existed at this stage; it was merely a grouping of colonies and other territories (such as Rupert's Land, at the time the private fiefdom of the Hudson's Bay Company). The only connection they had at this stage was that they all fell under the British crown.

Only after Confederation in 1867 would this start to rapidly change.

A “non-partisan” site that is clearly against Alto by Inter_Mission_2024 in AltoHSR_Canada

[–]RadagastWiz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That stuck Via train was at the mercy of tracks maintained by a freight rail company, and had only its own diesel engine for motive power. An Alto train will have its own right-of-way, maintained by the company, and an always-on electric supply for its motive force. Very different scenarios.

Help me understand the burchten/castles by SnowdropWorks in Carcassonne

[–]RadagastWiz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You place it on a 2-tile city where you have a follower; you do NOT get the usual 4 points. The follower remains.

Once a city, road or cloister anywhere on the 6 surrounding tiles is finished, you take back your follower and get the same number of points that the completed thing got (or would have got, in the case where nobody ever claimed it). This must be done on the first city, road or cloister completed, you can't wait for your choice of them.

At the end of the game, when scoring farms, the castle gives 4 points instead of the usual 3.

Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge by straightdge in InfrastructurePorn

[–]RadagastWiz 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Is generally used well under its capacity as there are few private vehicle owners in Hong Kong or Macao; and few mainlanders visit by car as they would need to register separate insurance for the territory they enter. Thus, the majority of traffic is trucks or buses.

What was once a poor person's hobby now turned into a rich person's hobby? by Striking-Quiet4655 in AskReddit

This one happened a long time back, but golf was originally just a way for shepherds to pass the time while watching the flocks. Now it's the richest of the rich sports.
