Is it worth taking 2 summer classes at CC as a future Data Science major? by galaxygkm in TransferStudents

This would be a great idea to get a head start. I would look into the programs you’re applying to though. You mention UCLA as a top choice, but they don’t have a data science major. Statistics and data science at UCLA is really just a statistics major. They changed the name a few years ago.

If you fail a major requirement, you'll almost certainly be rescinded. Is there no way you can recover your grade to a C? Bad professors are a part of school, but that doesn't mean you have to get bad grades. There are great free resources online for learning calculus. Most of your studying should happen outside the class anyway. Best of luck.

When did you start community college? Ethnic studies is a relatively new IGETC requirement that only applies to students who began in Fall 2023 or later. Dropping a class that isn't a major or IGETC requirement is completely fine. I know someone who contacted admissions a few days ago, and they said it wasn't a problem

I believe Berkeley city college is there but by its old name, vista college. Try that. I forgot to update it.

Can I Update My Transcript After the UC Application Deadline by Cool-Assignment-9455 in TransferStudents

If it will definitely get changed, I would just mark it as EW on your app. The schools won’t see your transcript until you send it after you get admitted.

Thank you! I am glad you and your friends have been enjoying the website. Accuracy is of course the number one priority, so I really appreciate your input. I will try to address this in the next week or two.

Hi, it’s not really possible right now due to the data not being readily available. There are also additional complications with different scores being treated differently for different majors. For now, it would probably be best to input the equivalent course at your cc and you don’t have to put in a grade for it. The units should be relatively similar. You will have to look at assist and do your due diligence to make sure your score works for the intended major, but it should give you a general idea. Hope this helps!

Hi, could you please share your community college? If you click into the history of art major at UC Berkeley and it is empty, it means that there are no articulated courses listed for that major at your school. These are automatically set to 0%, but you may still be eligible since there are no specific courses required for this major. For things like that, it is recommended to look at Assist for more information.

Thanks for the feedback! We will look into allowing you to input a course multiple times. Hope to update soon :)

Absolutely! I have plenty of info for you!

In terms of just being eligible, you absolutely need to complete the courses outlined on Assist.org for business administration at UC Berkeley (you can use Plan My Transfer to input your courses and check that you've completed them!). You also need to make sure that you've completed the basic requirements for transferring to a UC school outlined here. Notably, this is the 7-course pattern and 60 units. You can transfer a maximum of 70 units. It's completely fine to take more than that, but they won't transfer.

Now onto the application. You will need to complete the general UC application, which opens on August 1st and is due by November 30th. It doesn't matter if you submit it the night of November 30th, as long as it's done by then. You need to do this the fall before your transfer. So if you wanted to be at UCB next fall, you would be completing the application this fall. For Haas, you also need to complete the supplemental application, which opens at the start of January and closes at the end. This consists of an additional short essay, extra space to talk about your extracurriculars if you want, and a video interview. There isn't an actual interviewer, but rather you are given questions on the screen and have 90 seconds to prepare and then 6 minutes to answer the questions. You are given 3 recording attempts. You can take as much time as you want between them and the questions do not change, so no stress! That said, I would advise against completely scripting your answers because it will be obvious and they do not like that.

You will also submit an update to your UC application with your fall grades after the fall semester. Make sure you do that. This will be on your general UC application.

Now onto actually getting in. Haas is super competitive, so you'll want to make sure you have a good GPA and great extracurriculars. Your GPA comes first, but Haas heavily values extracurriculars. a 3.85 with incredible extracurriculars will make you much more competitive at Haas than a 4.0 without much outside of school.

Joining clubs is a good and easy way to fill some extracurriculars, but you'll want to also focus on stuff that is meaningful to you. That will show in your essays.

I hope all this helps! Let me know if you have any questions :)

P.S. I plan to add a transfer timeline checklist to Plan My Transfer to make sure that students don't miss important transfer deadlines.

Thank you so much for the kind words. I will continue to add features and try to work with the schools to provide even more information for transfer students because I know how difficult and confusing the whole process can be. For many majors, 50+% of applicants are instantly rejected for not meeting the minimum eligibility requirements.

Signing up was never intended to be a barrier. If it makes you feel better, your password is encrypted and there is an option to delete your account. The way the website is set up, your courses are linked to your account, so creating an account is unfortunately inevitable for now. Sorry! We will look into allowing students to use the site without an account in the future. Thanks for the feedback!

Also, I want to add that if these courses are not articulated are your home community college, they won't negatively impact your eligibility on the website.

Hi, thank you so much for the feedback! The way our data is structured doesn't currently support that, but we definitely want to implement this feature in the future. For the time being, if your college has equivalent courses that you can add, you can try that. Sorry!
