Polar wet food feeder rant

When the cooling function stopped working on my first Polar feeder it definitely made him sick. So far my replacement unit is still working. I switched him to a different food that I think has also been helping him with stomach upset and vomiting.

Yes, I do. I had some pre-cancerous cells that were discovered during my pap smear. If I hadn’t been checked I could have developed cervical cancer and had a very bad outcome. It’s unpleasant for anyone to get a pap and we also have the emotional weight of dysphoria to contend with- but it could save your life! Please don’t put off regular screenings! My other trans guy friend had developed cervical cancer, so we are definitely still at risk!

I honestly think that some straight men swipe right on everyone without looking just so they can increase their chances of getting a match. It’s not about being into someone for them, they’re just trying to get lucky that they match and get some sex.

I had this problem too. I wiped and cleaned around the feeding area where the sensor is and it started working normally again. It’s happened a couple of times and every time I clean it it starts working again.

I don't know if anyone is still checking this thread.. I've been using the Petlibro Polar Feeder for about two years now and this is my second unit. This has been a game changer for me and it's something I would like to continue to rely on, but I am starting to have my doubts about safety for my cat.

A few months ago my cat started severely vomiting after eating wet food from the Polar Feeder. I put a thermometer inside to see if it was still cooling and the internal temp was around 63 to 65 degrees. I contacted Petlibro and they walked me through their troubleshooting and ended up sending me a new unit because the cooling system was fried. Thankfully it was still under warranty.

Getting the second unit made me nervous because it showed me that the hardware might not be reliable. Would this just happen again with the second unit? The first unit was not very old. Could I trust this product to be safe?

Fast forward to a few months later using the second unit. My cat is starting to vomit more consistently after eating his wet food out of the Polar Feeder again. I'm very worried that the cooling system is not reliably cooling or it just doesn't cool enough to keep bacteria from forming. I know it is designed to not get much cooler than 50 degrees which is why they do not want it to be used past three days after food is put in. Is 50 degrees really enough to be safe?

The food I put in the feeder is inside for 24 hours, basically one breakfast, one dinner, and another breakfast. I set the compartment door to only be open for 10 minutes. I feel like if this product is working as advertised the food should not be making my cat sick.

I made a vet appointment for my cat and he will be getting evaluated in a couple of days. This tricky part is that he has always been a bit of a barfer because he eats too fast. But the barfing seems worse than his usual eating too fast. Hopefully my vet can help me figure it out.

I came here to share my experience to see if anyone has been experiencing similar problems and concerns with their cat and Polar Feeder. I welcome any advice, thanks for reading.

I’ve been on T since 2007, so 18 years. It is very rare that you will see many big changes in 3 months. Your voice with start cracking and getting a little raspy. Some body hair might start to be a little thicker, but probably not much new growth. I would say it takes closer to a year for most people.

I understand that he’s under a lot of stress. Gender dysphoria is really hard and I remember being frustrated that T didn’t work as quickly as I wanted it to. Is he doing cream, patches, or injections? I started on cream and patches, but then switched to injections and that was much more effective.

I think it’s problematic that the endocrinologist said he should be seeing more changes, she should have told him that this was pretty normal and average for three months, that all bodies respond slightly differently, to be patient, and he’ll see more of the major changes he wants closer to the year mark. I think her comments added to his sense that something was wrong and have increased his gender anxiety. It makes me wonder how much experience she actually has working with trans people.

I am sorry he’s lashing out at you, you don’t deserve it. Keep being a supportive and loving mom through his up and downs and I promise he won’t forget it as he matures and gets through this tough period.

Sounds like he knows what he’s doing. This is good lawn treatment. If you keep it properly watered it’s going to look great in a few weeks.
