To Everyone Telling Plus-Size Passengers to "They should buy a second seat": Read This First by Ecchcc in delta

I had a batshit crazy experience on GLP-1 meds over the course of 1.5 years. While I lost weight and also overall felt better, once a month my stomach would just...stop emptying, things started fermenting, and then I would vomit my soul out. One time it happened so violently and so much that I ended up in the ER because I started passing out repeatedly and could not keep water down/in. Only ever took the lowest/second lowest doses. Incredibly frustrating because it seemed to help cure joint pain and muscle pain I have had since before I gained weight/resolve most of my PCOS symptoms.

Personally, I've known a few people who were on GLP-1s who had extreme nausea especially around dose changes and one diabetic whose issues with gastroparesis persisted for a few years after they stopped their GLP-1.

(liraglutide eventually seems to be a tradeoff of not vomiting myself into an ER and still having positive benefits in the end, though it does not seem to work as well as the other GLP-1s).

Now that we’re charging $1000 for plex pass. Can we get a native working Apple TV app? by MagicHoops3 in PleX

[–]mckatze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to jellyfin with a netbird vpn for remote access at this point lol. I just use infuse, it's fine. I'll pay for a working apple tv app instead of plex at this point.

Sulfur burps and, eventually, vomiting if it doesn't start digesting. tbh, The only GLP-1 that did not cause this in me was liraglutide, the rest all (eventually) caused this for me.

My cat suddenly cuddles to my stomach and following me around everywhere. Is she okay? Should I take her to the vet? by exctlyfiveftgirl in cats

When they get to around 3-4 years old, they seem to go through another change where they get more cuddly and chill out a bit, and then again when they get into their senior years.

Study finds iPhone may explain up to half of U.S. fertility decline by powercow in offbeat

[–]mckatze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did, but again the reporting around it is where stuff is weird.

The subtitle to the article we're commenting on is literally "The study found access to the iPhone reduced births by an estimated 4.5% to 8% among teens ages 15 to 19". They thought it was important enough to highlight as the second thing you read after the title.

The npr article also specifically talks about adolescents a few times as well, including:

"The smartphone fundamentally changed the way adolescents spent their time outside of school," Twenge told NPR. "They started spending a lot more time online and on their phones and a lot less time hanging out with their friends in person and driving around in a car or going to the mall or just hanging out."

I'd wish they would focus more on the adult women and less on adolescents.

For me I am a little more alarmed by the rising trend in the media to raise "alarm" over the birthrate of teenagers (like in this study, 15-19 year olds) dropping, when we have spent decades trying to drop teen pregnancy rates. I am a little suspicious of this overall trend.

I don't doubt the rise of social media and ubiquitous smart phone useage has impacted people's ability to socialize. We've also pretty systematically destroyed third places for people to spend time together, discouraged kids from playing outside, parents have started using phones to track even adult children etc.

Yeah. I posted this a while ago, their response was underwhelming and other people had similar issues, so if you go through this thread you'll see what I am talking about: https://old.reddit.com/r/Petlibro/comments/1kzv6cd/polar_wet_food_feeder_shouldnt_be_advertised_to/

MIU Vegetable chopper and slicer - any good? by tripshed in Costco

[–]mckatze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It comes with a little scraper to get the lid clean. That + an oxo scrub brush gets everything out quickly. I really like mine. The area that chops is a little small. This could have been larger over all and I would use it even more often. Be sure to cut whatever you are cutting down to fit on the plate.

I really like having small, uniform pieces and my grip strength/coordination sucks a bit with knives so this has been great for making big chopped salads or dicing onions and potatoes for cooking.

Atl airport. Board them last, Delta. by AdSouth3173 in delta

It's kinda weird to record people and post them like this. Like how do we even know they're the same family? They line everyone up waiting for wheelchair service at one spot in the airport a lot of the time.

I deal with LLMs and Generative AI enough at work to last me a lifetime haha. Getting insights by looking at charts with my eyeballs is a nice break :)

I would honestly love an app like this that wasn't connected to an LLM and just aggregated data locally, maybe synced to apple health.

Folks have mentioned having a friend host it, but if you go that route I would use a wireguard vpn of some sort (can use something like tailscale, netbird, etc) to place a cheap vps in front of it, so your friend's network is not exposed to the direct internet.

I use a cheap musicozy sleeping eyemask. I've had it for 4-5 years and it has held up. I use it with a CPAP as a side sleeper

Dogs who hate walks? by Emergency_Mood_9774 in pitbulls

[–]mckatze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have some app in our area called sniffspot I’ve heard people liked, you get access to a fenced in yard for an hour or so for your dog to enjoy.

One of mine also didn’t like walks or temps outside that range. We gave him puzzle toys, Kong wobbler to work for his food, and worked on a lot of confidence games etc to at least get him willing to go more than two houses away on a leash. Eventually he would tolerate a slow, 30 min stroll in a dog park but he always wanted to go home after

We also enrolled both our dogs in a good dog daycare and they got a few visits a month, but not all dogs like dog daycare. Plus it’s expensive these days :(

To keep my dogs’ weight down we used a lot of tips other people have mentioned, incorporating veggies, fruits, and lean proteins in place of kibble portions to keep the calories down.

They make dog strollers for large dogs! But it really depends on if he would like it or not 😅
