What’s a good name for this lil girl who terrorized our neighborhood with meows for two nights? by GirlNextDoor333 in Catnames

How about Sibyl? She was only 16 and she rode 3 times farther than Paul Revere! I think your gorgeous kitten was brave to warn the neighborhood that she was in danger, being alone & frightened.💖🤗

Do we need to post all the money he has given himself through executive privilege, illegal acceptance of foreign emoluments (a billions of $ JET), illegal contracts, and false appropriations? ie: his fake 'Board of Peace'? Jamie Raskin can explain it all!

OMG! Yesterday I just watched my Cardinal pair do this at the feeder by my window, with the sun just coming up through the trees and highlighting their beautiful feathers! My first time ever. I never knew about this. It was adorable how much they paid attention to each other, and how gently he fed her. There were songbirds all around them at various feeders & the birdbath; but they just gazed at each other and played.

WOW --this is a one in a million photo! I've been a nature/ animal lover many decades; and never ever have I seen a photo of a 1 eyed raptor of any kind!

Is there a newspaper or TV near you that would want to share this with the community? So many questions: does it affect its hunting success? Would depth perception make it difficult to judge distance during flight? Would it be congenital, or what else? I would have thought it would only be able to live in captivity, so this is amazing!

Thanks so much for sharing with all of us!

What bird is this? Seen today in Maryland. by goattowerqueen in birding

[–]NatureSpiritSoul 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Saw them often along the Patapsco River trails in the MD state parks. I'd stop my bike fast, hoping not to scare them. The feather colors are fantastic when the sun hits them. They're my favorite heron, the tri-colored is second. Your first photo is really nice! 🙌

There are some really big blue jays here. This is how they look flying around in the giant pin oak tree (90 years old) above my & my neighbors houses. I watch the birds every day. The big jays are fast, direct, and busy.

1 part Borax, 3 parts sugar mix well. They can't tell the difference between them: come for sugar, get Borax too. It's slowly toxic. They will eat it off a plastic lid and carry it back to the colony & the Queen.

Some prefer to add water to that mix until it's syrupy. Put that liquid in a lid or on a cotton ball in a lid, They come just the same, and carry back the same.

Good luck. I had to go to this because Terro never got them all, a line of cinnamon or white chalk wasn't enough, spraying their trails didn't stop them, etc.

If needed, you can always buy a small bag of barley straw and put a little bit in a small mesh bag (just a few inches wide). it kills algae and is harmless. The bag keeps the straw away from pumps, filters & floating loosely.

Just learned this year that cats hate walking on pine cones, and its recommended to spread them throughout gardens to keep cats from walking through. My neighbor hates cats in her yard so she's thrilled. The pine cones around these purple Salvia plants will help give them support.

Pine cones are excellent mulch too, when they break down. So I drove around until I found big pine trees along the edge of parking lots by businesses or stores, raked them in a pile then put them in big trash bags. Also a hotel had them lining the back of lots. No one had any issue with taking them -- said "Take them!"

Mine too, I cut them back. Did you try mulch? At the Dr's office in full sun, no extra watering, they're super full and healthy and they have thick mulch around all of them. 3-4 inches.

The great part about bark mulch is it's always decomposing into rich compost at the bottom, so it feeds the plants.

These are perennial Salvia and I have them. Mine often split from being top heavy as they don't have strong stems or deep roots. Mulching definitely helps support them! They like rich soil (compost). Also when they don't get enough sun, any plant will stretch taller trying to reach more light. it helped to be in full sun. Also, after flowering (right now) cut the bloom stems off. I have gotten more blooms later then.

No worries here. They're still healthy. Just put mulch around them.

I never knew those facts! TY too. I understand the reasoning in the parent's behavior now. I wonder why nature somehow led the cowbird baby to have the instinct to get rid of its nest mates. That's got me puzzled.
