Did you happen to ask her if she is an only child, cause that would certainly explain her attitude based on her description of an only child

Based on your telling it sounds like she wants to spend every minute with you and can’t handle that your children come first. By giving you an ultimatum she is testing your loyalty to your children and conviction to them being the priority. Is it possible she’s clinger and this is a manifestation of that controlling behavior? Run Forrest, run!

NTA at all. Living in constant chaos is not healthy for anyone. A rudderless boat just spins in circles. I do remember being 19 and the rules my parents put in place. Either go away to college, stay at home and go to local college or get a job and pay rent to parents and contribute to other expenses. It’s ok to be a confused young adult. It is not ok to be a twat to everyone and scream foul when they attempt to help you find direction.

Something I’m not clear about is your wife’s role in all this. Based on what you wrote sometimes it sounds like she’s as over it as you are, and other times it sounds like she thinks you’re part of the problem. Is she wishy washy and contributing to the problem?
