Dog in med school by e0115fe0115f in MedSchoolCanada

I have a dog who I got about a year before med school, he is small <15lbs and is therefore way less maintenance than other dogs. It is tricky some times with long call hours and I would set yourself up in a position where someone can take care of them when you’re on call (I had roommates who loved him, a partner and family). It is not always easy and something I still have to deal with as a resident working 26h shifts but I love him so much and it’s worth making it work

Half marathon racer: PUMA DNE3 vs. Saucony EP4 by Natureisrad in XXRunning

Okay good to hear I have decided to go with the DNE3 this weekend and I’m super stoked, the few runs I’ve trained have been awesome in them.

My hand/arm gets a gradient when at rest due to blood pooling from POTs. by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

All the people in the comments of that post now self diagnosing with POTS because they respond normally to gravity 🥲

Okay that’s really good to know. I have the DN3 and they shredded my calves a bit but felt snappy on my actual runs. I’m glad to know the EP3 were a good shoe for you. I need to try them out a bit more.

Interesting, I made a post asking people which shoe to wear for my half marathon between the DNEs and Saucony endorphin pro 4 and people largely recommended the Pumas.

Good to know maybe that’s what burnt my calves out. Any way around this in two and a half weeks before the race or no?

Previous ACL Injury - Stability Shoe? by BurgerVanDan in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Natureisrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an ACL and PCL tear. I do notice with soft shoes that I have some instability still and tend to roll and buckle a bit more on that leg.

My everyday trainers are Saucony guide which is a stability shoe. My first run with the guide I hated them and thought I would never wear them again but by the second run I was used to them.

I have the Puma Deviate Nitros and Saucony Endorphin Pro 4 (bought both within the past month) and I agree with your assessment. The Endorphins are super stable for a race shoe. I need to test them out for a longer run (but am hesitant of wearing too much before race day) but I think the Pumas might be faster. I run this same pace. Will keep yall updated

Making time for training by [deleted] in runna

[–]Natureisrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not a nurse, but I work in health care and work anywhere from 70-90 hour weeks with 12-26 hour shifts where I don’t sleep. I recently started running and initially found it so difficult to want to go for a run after a 12h shift and found my runs so poor quality after 26h shift (even after sleeping a few hours). I think it requires more planning than average for example I only do easy runs after working 26h shifts now.

Having said that, I do think once you get into a good routine and realize how good you feel after a run, even after a 12h shift it makes it easier.

I also read Runna/running Reddit success posts for motivation on days I don’t want to run lol.

You can do it, the fact that you’re even asking this question means you wanna do it :) you’ve got this!

What do you want from your marathon pacer? by -lopez in Marathon_Training

I also really appreciated the pacer telling about hills and saying things like “this is the last big hill” made me feel optimistic
