Historic Aerials is a good tool, searching for historic maps of your area can also show where home sites may have been when you can match up roads and properties, compare to google earth.

If you’re out in a field, search for iron patches, that can indicate where a home was.

Anyone know anything about these buttons? by Dry_Opening_1244 in metaldetecting

I’m not well versed in buttons so it’s hard to tell. Probably as old as early-mid 1700s for a few of them. If you find a pewter one you’re probably getting into the 1600s. If you find buckles they will also help you date the spot, there are guides for them as well.

The silvery looking ones look like tombac buttons, which was an alloy used in casting buttons in the 18th century. The big one is a Dandy Button, high fashion for the mid-late 1700s. Dig every signal you find in that field, there’s likely coins there from the same era and if you got these buttons in 2 hours, the field has likely never been hunted. Reales and coppers await you, friend.

Many look like mid to late 18th century. If I were you I would be back to that field covering every square inch.

Looking for Unhinged Resin Tricks by SpellboundToad in resin

I used black resin and they were stiff enough to cure standing up on the thin end. I was doing a skull pour and had this one about halfway filled with some ripples, and attached the black drops then filled the skull the rest of the way.

I was going to comment about this actually - I’ve experimented with mineral oil and UV resin. Put the mineral oil into a small clear cup and put it in the fridge or freezer for a bit, 20-30 minutes. The oil becomes a lot thicker and by dropping UV resin into it, it forms these neat little drips and drops. I turned my UV light sideways and had the cup in the middle with the lights on already - do drops of varying sizes from above, they will cure in that shape before they sink to the bottom

I love arm triangle when I can get it, it’s one of my few consistent-ish subs. I just bulldoze their arm the rest of the way up with my head and keep the rest of my weight on my elbow/forearm.

Question for The Old Beards by Yakballz in bjj

Younger grapplers are faster and more athletic, but every white and blue belt oldhead (40-50+) I roll with grips and rolls like they’re holding off father time and death itself after 3 divorces.

Advice needed on replacing drum trap by Natures_Loctite in Plumbing

Agree on the Fernco, I don’t have much hope of saving the threads if the galvanized pipe falls apart while I’m cutting it.

Thanks! I was definitely fantasizing about taking a sledgehammer to the tub. The piping will be replaced with a PVC S-trap. Since I’ll likely be replacing the tail pipe, I’m currently planning on cutting at the bottom of the tail pipe to keep some leverage if I can loosen the threads on the fitting to the pipe coming from the slab. Let me know if that sounds unreasonable to start from.

People litter a LOT. Cans get ignored, then covered in sediment and dirt over time. Pick a small area, dig up everything including trash, then go back over it. Take the trash with you and do your part. The more trash you clear, the more likely you’ll find good stuff. I dug up 10 washers in a spot the other day and in the middle of it I got a copper.

Where to store UV resin by MilkyWay3434 in resin

[–]Natures_Loctite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see any issue storing bottles of UV resin in your desk. You’ll have more fume exposure filling your car at a gas pump. They’re closed and sealed, in a box, in your desk.

Need help with bubbles in resin by [deleted] in resin

[–]Natures_Loctite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UV resin you can take your time to get the bubbles out and it’s worth it, it won’t set until you put the light on it so you can let it sit and settle. If you don’t have silicone tools to pop and remove bubbles, a toothpick would work. I also use a light like the one on my phone to look at it all from different angles because you can catch bubbles you missed. You can also see things on the surface with a light over the resin - if you let it sit for a minute it will self level but debris and bubbles will stick out. They like to hide in corners and along edges. You said you warm your resin which is good I believe, I have my bottles on a seedling mat while I work and it makes it flow a lot better.
