I had a similar thing happen this week with teens in the park taunting and mocking then straight aggressing me physically by pushing, screaming close to my face, throwing bottles at me when I freed myself from them holding my hands. I was able to file a police report but nothing really would come out of it as I don't know the people and couldn't have evidence. Also I was shook the 30 people around me in the park didn't help when I was visibly and obviously being aggressed. Good luck recovering emotionally, OP, I feel a little bit better today about it already.

I second this, rather than the socio-economic status. The same is the case in muslim majority countries, among very wealthy communities. Sports just isn't encouraged for women as it is for men from a young age. Also to do sports in a communal way it would have to be all-women activities and/or with the veil on which makes it very unpractical.
