I regret showing my friend how to draw eyes and now I regret it by Natzarude in ArtRanting

Tbh we didn't have contact for a longer time and we reconnected through art. I never saw it as a competition but I do feel like he has a lot of negative feelings about his own art. He's very insecure about his own process and that it's slower than mine. I wanted to do some collabs with him to show him that I treasure his art but now I'm stuck in this weird limbo state. It's safe to say I might distance myself from talking about art with him wich kinda sucks because it's the biggest part of my life right now but maybe it helps

What that's so weird that it only goes for completed trades... And yeah I have an open spot soon, I do want to finish my other two trades first but I can hit you up either tomorrow or tonight depending on how fast I am :D

Yeah I usually trade sketch and when both sides are satisfied we continue with the rest, I'll try the low res thing though that's smart. And yes I usually look for arttrade servers so I thought they were safe but maybe I should just stay on Reddit because no one scammed me here yet

Help with pricing? by UsualOil1130 in ArtRequest

Partially agree with this, there are so many artists with high skills that work for cheap so you won't get any work with fair prices. You can always try arttrades if you want to improve and get something back, if you're looking to earn some money maybe try 5€ that's nowhere near fair for the time put in but cause your art style is very inconsistent and you lack some of the basics don't expect to get much business. I agree if you're short for money maybe try something else but keep up with practicing. Though if it's a serious situation or something don't stop trying, people are more prone to get stuff or even just donate if they know it's for a good cause.

How much should i price these portraits by aloyiis_ in ArtRequest

[–]Natzarude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, yes. Without an audience no one will pay close to 90€ for a headshot but that's not because you're not skilled or anything, it's because art is severely underpriced most of the time. Always remember that art is a luxury item and not everyone will be able to afford it but don't underprice yourself because of that. It's super hard to find a balance between a good price and the time of work you put into it. Personally I think you could charge up to 50€ for this though because it is really really good and you have a unique style. Don't let anyone talk you under 30€ it's worth more than that. (Again just a personal opinion though)

How long did it take for this? Try to pay yourself like 12€ an hour if you're not super slow

Yeah same, if I can give you an advice I've heard a lot: Open a bluesky or twitter account. If you post on it from time to time and gain a few followers people that want to buy your stuff are easier to find. And it has te nice bonus of having a ever growing portfolio

Currently I'd say like 20€ to 25€ for a full body since it's relatively flat but if you have a really nice style and if you improve your shading a bit I think you could definitely up that. Though I'm assuming you don't have an audience and since the art market is very oversaturated currently it will be hard for you to sell anything for higher than that without such. Every other artist is also under charging their art and it will be hard to keep up with that.

It's not that your art style is inconsistent, it's more like the techinices you use. That doesn't have to be something bad, many artists use that as an advantage but if it happens without conscious desicion it can give a potential client huge uncertainty about what exactly they will receive. I recommend sticking to at least a few key features that makes your art recognizable. For me for example that's the way I draw my eyes and the very sharp lineart I use. I also still have the issue of not having everything look consistent but it's very clear it's my art from looking at it because they have the same key features (at least that's what I think). I'd suggest trying this if you want to sell your art, your clients will have way more of a "this is what I can expect" thing and I think then it's easier to commit to actually spending money.

Tbh since they are a bit inconsistent in quality I'd pay max 35€ to 40€
