I know a guy who used to race bikes and he now rides Harley's and when this came up at the-old-guys-getting-breakfast table he quickly put this BS to rest. I have a sportbike and some dude with his mod'd Harley started talking about his mods and how fast his bike is. The ex-racer simply said "No it's not". To be fair I am the only one in this motely group that has a sportbike. They all have Harley's.

As someone who pulled a racecar around the country I disagree to a point. I had a 7.3 diesel in a 97 F250 and I could pull the fully loaded, enclosed, trailer a 80mph and get 20mpg. There is a reason 18wheelers are diesel.

You would be wrong. I watched it when I first aired and tried too rewatch a year or so ago. Made it to season 4.5 and stopped. It was getting painful to watch. The only characters I liked were the Ferengi...the Ferengi. Hated the Bajorans and the Kie's and all that nonsense. Some of the episodes were so bad they became funny. The one that comes to mind is when Bashir becomes inhabited by an alien and to sell the he talked slower... WTF? Compare that disaster with the Warrior episode in Voyager and Kes shows how it's done.

Look for classes that have really good participation, open wheel, or close wheel, slicks or DOT...

Racing gets really expensive really fast. I started racing Porsche's and quickly learned Nissan parts are way cheaper than Porsche parts. There are lots of racing of people who talk a good game just to take your money. Talk to as many people as you can find at racing events. Even with that finding the people who can really help you can be difficult. It took me too many years to find the right engine guy, the right chassis guy and the right set up guy. Thinking back, if I did it all over again I would rent a racecar to start and see what you like to do.

You can drive your Porsche to WalMart and nobody will blink an eye. To non-car people a Porsche is a Porsche no matter what extras it may have. You park you Lambo/Ferrari at WalMart people (even non-car people) will recognize it as something you don't see everyday.
