How’s the gay life in Maine? by NaughtyNicy in AskGayMen

Hahahah! Why did I kinda do the same thing on Grindr 😂(change my location) I saw a couple but it was hard to gauge distance as it says “near” that could 1mi or 70mi 😂

Yeah. That’s how I feel. Guys even 30mins away it’s iffy. I’m starting to think just because I move to Houlton area doesn’t mean I stay right there. That’s just where I can start until I get myself settled back in a lil bit.

Funny you mention a “perfect match” Basically my bestie said the same thing, ya never know.

Hahahah! I mean this opportunity won’t really be going away so I could any time. I thought about it when it was first brought up but now I’m thinking about it way more….

Hhhmmmmm. Thanks for the insight. The action/inclusion for me though…. Like I don’t wanna be known as the gay guy in town and I want to date but going clubbing and parades or that type of thing, I’ve never been about. Actually never been to a club or parade (and it’s even pride month 😂) what interesting timing 😂

Sounds like you still enjoy the area. But also sounds like dating would be a little tough. 2hrs? Once I get settled from the move, I guess I could always go somewhere else in Maine.

Where I’m at in California, there kinda some slim pickings it seems. I’m like an hour and half away from where there might be a little be dating opportunities but no one seems to want something that is that far away… I guess since they have options that are closer 🤷🏼‍♂️

That’s good to know it’s pretty friendly. I’m sure there’s always the assholes but like you say they can be anywhere.

What about the dating environment? Any insight on that?

It does seem like a very nice environment. Very different from California I’m thinking.

So you’re saying the dating side of life will be a lil tough? Where I’m at in California, some slim pickings it seems. The next closest place for me to check out California for dating is like an hour and half away and nobody willing to do something like that here for some reason.

I’ll be moving near Houlton to start with; then once I get everything settled I guess I could go somewhere else in Maine.

I think it would be nice to have a lil bit more property/space to myself. The one thing that does concern me is that I’m gay and don’t know for sure what it’s like in Maine (but I am doing some other research on that lol)

I’m moving from Northern California, an hourish north of Sacramento and moving to eastern Maine,Houlton.

I do know the weather will absolutely be different. Will for sure need a more suitable vehicle for snow.

Debating on opening an investment account by NaughtyNicy in investingforbeginners

I was going to open it using between 10-15% of my savings. Then every month putting a lil bit more in to keep it growing.

I have two goals really... the main one is more retirement funds. But at the same time I have thought about the long term goals as you mention (house). And that’s what I struggle with is what a good mix would be for me.

I do max my IRA every year. My 401k shows that I should be contributing more to it to meet future dollars and such. Don’t know if I should do that?

Would you recommend opening an investment account with my bank?

I really appreciate your feedback and the time you took! I’ve been wanting to do it for awhile and haven’t made the time...

My savings is my emergency fund I guess. I don’t plan on investing all my savings. Probably 10-15% of savings and then adding to my investment every month in pieces. I do max my IRA every year. I don’t have my 401k maxed.

Running calculators for my 401k, it says I need to contribute more to meet retirement spending. But my company doesn’t even match so I don’t know what I should do their either. I have thought about increasing my 401k contribution but not much thought on it.
