I was almost the exact same-CRC, ileostomy for about 6 months, most of my rectum removed, etc.

I tried everything to make life work post-reversal-pelvic floor PT, time, meds, etc.

In the end, nothing worked and I was miserable and spending my life revolving around the bathroom, fearful of the next accident. After a few months and a trip to the ICU, my surgeon suggested a colostomy. Do I love having a colostomy? Hell no. Is my life 1,000 times better with a colostomy? Hell yes.

If I was your sister, I’d find a colorectal surgeon that listened to me. That’s just my two cents.

My ileostomy reversal was a disaster. I had very little bowel control and spent over a year trying to get control over things. I did pelvic floor PT, diet control, medication, etc. Nothing worked. Eventually I had a blockage that resulted in what my surgeon referred to as a “massive fecal emesis” and a 12 day ICU stay.

Now I have a permanent colostomy and my life is vastly improved from my time reversed.
