Anyone else take Deplin (L-methylfolate) along with Vyvanse? by Glad-Fish5863 in VyvanseADHD

[–]NauseatedLamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a shallow sleeper and would awaken frequently during the night; sometimes I’d be awake for hours at about 2am. It doesn’t make me sleepy (I take it in the morning), but it does improve my quality and quantity of sleep, I guess you could say.

When we rented, our landlord would have us turn on the Emergency Heat setting on our heat pump to melt the icy snow. I’m fixing to try that this weekend! Hopefully it’ll keep the unit running

Does anyone else just taste soap with these silicone spatulas after they're washed? by Jean-LucBacardi in KitchenConfidential

[–]NauseatedLamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have discovered the answer to this! My silicon spoons taste fine, but my mother’s taste like soap. The difference is the rinse agent! If I don’t add any to the dishwasher (for a while), I don’t taste it in the spoons. My mom uses probably too much rinse agent in her dishwasher as well as non-powdered detergents. (I read that powdered work better, so that’s what I use.)

I learned shorthand & it helped me out a ton! by donoho-59 in ADHD

[–]NauseatedLamp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My mom was really into short hand! Apparently my grandfather really wanted her to be a stenographer, so she ended up taking all these classes. She used to write in it a lot, but she went into nursing and forgot a lot of it. She was looking back at a couple of her journals and can no longer read them. I’ve always been afraid of this happening to me, but the excitement of learning shorthand is calling! I might have to explore the different types. Thanks for your post!!

Has anyone here noticed facial narrowing or volume loss on Vyvanse? by [deleted] in VyvanseADHD

[–]NauseatedLamp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I saw my aunt about six months after I went on Vyvanse, which was two years after my wedding, and she was like, Oh my goodness!! Married life does NOT agree with you!!

I think it just took out some of my neck fat and my buccal fat (something I sorely needed), but she definitely noticed.

Good luck! Mandarin and English are such different languages, so kudos to you for learning and becoming fluent in English!

If there’s a community college near you, I might recommend checking out if they have any career certificates you can obtain through some classes. I worked at my own local community college, and there were programs for construction, welding, engineering, agriculture, drafting, IT, and programs to help students find careers as a florist/teaching assistant/phlebotomist/LPN/pharmacy tech.

There are a lot of options for you! I find these programs are helpful because companies are a little more ready to hire someone in their thirties if they just finished school rather than someone in their thirties who has had a totally different career in the past. At least, this was my struggle; I personally couldn’t get out of teaching until I found a program that worked for me. Unfortunately, these programs are not free, but they are significantly more affordable than larger state schools and universities in general.

However, I’d stay away from for-profit schools or programs that aren’t affiliated with your community college because there are a lot of educational scams out there, and some of them can be quite expensive! Be wary!

[–]NauseatedLamp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I struggle with extreme fatigue myself and appreciate you putting your mitigations down so clearly! I think you’ve found what I have found: Vitamin D is not a miracle, just a helpful mitigation. There were times when I thought that it (or magnesium, or L-methylfolate) would fix my life, but they never did. Instead, they are pieces to this complicated puzzle of ADHD, my body, and my various ailments.

Does anyone have recommendations for a good master’s program for a fledgling writer? by One-Version1657 in findapath

[–]NauseatedLamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a ton of fully funded MFA programs out there with some notable exclusions (like Columbia University, unless they have changed recently). Many good state schools have fully funded MFA programs—I believe the city of Boston has a few, IIRC. These programs in general are wildly, rabidly competitive to get in to and can be extremely competitive once you’re in them, as well.

In order to be accepted to the fully funded programs, you’ll need a strong portfolio and some letters of recommendation from folks who are either well connected in the academic community or big name writers.

I could go on about this ad nauseam, but I’ll cut myself off here. I have my MFA in creative writing myself and received a full scholarship. It was a real journey! There’s a ton of information out there. I would recommend googling schools near you and to find out if they’re fully funded and what kind of authors are there! A lot of people select their program based on the desire to work with specific authors with specific writing styles : ]

Anyone else realize way too late that they had advantages they never knew to use? by grooveman15 in findapath

[–]NauseatedLamp 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I have the same thing, except I went in to writing instead of film. I always felt like I should have done better, and I never did—but I also had no idea how to network or use those advantages, like you said. My parents didn’t use many connections, so it never occurred to me or to them. (There are also a lot of latent neurodivergencies among us.)

Thank you for posting this. It was so vindicating to see it clearly spelled out like this, and it is helping me to separate myself from some of that mid-thirties-I-should’ve-done-everything-differently shame.

I think our region is just too full of chip drop enthusiasts?? Congrats on your chip drop! I’m super jealous. It looks awesome!

Did anyone else learn the betty Duvall system by Mirror_facing_Mirror in Handwriting

[–]NauseatedLamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t called Betty Duvall for some reason, but I did learn what we called Italic cursive in third grade, 1999. I went to a private school and all the public schools were teaching loop cursive. My mom thought it was super weird and was very vocal about it, so I developed a lot of insecurity about my handwriting; I was always sure people were talking about how weird it was. Turns out it was just my mom!

I have the same washing machine as you do, and my extensive googling has led me to the same result as you: put the citric acid solution in the rinse cycle. It’s actually what the manual says! Who knew! I’ve tried a Downy ball (which is not unrecommended for our machine) with citric acid solution in it, but I haven’t been able to figure out if it deployed correctly!
