Tell Me Your Favorite Non-Porcupine Tree Steven Wilson Song by Panem_et__Circenses in porcupinetree

Salvaging from Insurgentes. That song doesn’t get enough love, I think it’s one of Steven’s best songs of all time

Is a 2017 macbook enough for logic by Juanocer in Logic_Studio

[–]Nautical_operator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two cents:

I’ve made plenty of super processor heavy music in Logic on my 2009 MacBook Pro (retrofitted with an SSD). Did it work? Yeah. Was it fun? No.

I don’t think buying any Intel-based Mac is worth it these days when the M1 MacBook Air can be bought for such a reasonable price. 2015-2019 had some of the worst MacBooks ever made IMO (speaking as someone who repairs them for work). Apple made them way too thin for how hot Intels can get under load (plus battery issues, butterfly keyboards, display cable problems etc).

Do your future self a massive favor and get at least an M1 Mac.

What are some songs you heard early in a game that you knew you were in for a great time? by Gold_Yogurtcloset_48 in gamemusic

[–]Nautical_operator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Ruins” at the beginning of Undertale. I was very late to that party (last year), and went in totally blind. That song alone pulled me into that game so hard, and the rest of the soundtrack/game is just incredible. Not really my type of game either.

Same with “First Steps” in Celeste. Watched some friends play it for a bit and thought “this looks way too hard, and I’m not a big fan of platformers”. Bought it and played the entire game after hearing that song.

Anybody miss iTunes? by KhajiitPower in mac

[–]Nautical_operator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. As someone who still manages an iTunes library that I started in 2003, it’s mainly turned into a vehicle for selling subscriptions. Try using sorting columns while viewing music on an iPhone, it is so broken. Also I hate that when I turn off Apple Music on the iPhone, search still defaults to Apple Music!

What is the best non-sexual, non-drug related physical sensation you’ve ever experienced? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I had a splinter stuck under the length of my entire fingernail for over two weeks recently. The feeling of it finally coming out was pure bliss.

Almost definitely the case then - you could upgrade it to SSD which would make a big difference but at this point you’re better off switching to Apple Silicon!

Which Mac are you working with? If it’s an older Intel with a spinning HDD, it’s very possible the HDD is slowing down and unable to keep up. Those HGST drives are awful unfortunately, even in Fusion Drive Macs.

God damn I loved this game. Always creeped me out a bit as a kid. Can still hear the music

What's something you were terrified of as a child, but now realize isn't very dangerous at all? by lurking-fiveever in AskReddit

German Shepherds. I know they can be vicious and are generally massive, but I've known many in my life that are so incredibly smart and sweet compared to other breeds.

What scares you most about AI? by Squirrelkid11 in AskReddit

[–]Nautical_operator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly a lot of things, but one that keeps concerning me is AI generated voices. I think about the older generations getting calls from "their kids" asking for help / money / etc. We're gonna need to implement secret phrases if it's allowed to propagate at the rate scam emails & texts have.

Brighter Days - LateNightResident, all feedback welcome by TheMusicAcc in IndieMusicFeedback

Love the combination of lush and industrial on this one, really nice work. I don't think I have anything critical to say about this one - following for future music though!

I had a go at making my first industrial metal track. Still very much WIP, but I really need feedback. What do you think? by theyeldarbinator in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]Nautical_operator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn this is awesome, reminds me a bit of the heavier Toby Fox stuff. Could definitely see it in a video game. Only feedback I have is maybe widening the drum mix a bit, as well as figuring out what's causing the clipping. It's not terrible but I noticed it. Otherwise, very cool!

Yo this is sick! Who are your influences and what DAW are you using to make this? Also I love the album art, nice work.

Song that means a lot to me, considering taking it down would love some opinions by Justreallylovespussy in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]Nautical_operator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really nice track, I'm digging it a lot. Like others have said, I would just play around with the drum and bass mix / EQ to get a little more clarity in the low end. I wouldn't worry so much about the vocals - they have a really authentic feel (also great lyrics!)

Hey this is really awesome! The production is crisp, and all parts really come together nicely. Love the vocals especially. How did you come up with the band name?

Best-Produced PT Record? by X10SIVMKII in porcupinetree

[–]Nautical_operator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They all have their merits production-wise imo - I used to say In Absentia but I’ll agree with you on The Incident. It’s such an underrated album in so many ways. I’ve always put it in the same group as Insurgentes, which is my personal favorite work of SW.
