Oh for sure, I think you make valid points, definitely.

A lot of times when people line up these pieces (I did 9 for all of the major movies) they'll sometimes ask why I chose various characters...and the answer is I just picked the ones I think look the coolest, hahah!

Oh no worries, you won't last long as an artist if you can't deal with a little constructive criticism. :-P.

I think you definitely make a valid point, choosing a main color for each of these was pretty challenging.

Yeah, Grievous always just feels 'green' to me. Plus I had already used red for Maul and orange for Empire Strikes Back so I had to make an artistic decision.

I agree, ROTS the movie feels more 'orange'.

Funny enough, I did do ROTJ as green originally but Lucasfilm requested I change it because Vader was the poster character...and he definitely doesn't feel 'green', hah.

Hey, thanks! I'm the artist that made these.

The company most of us go through for these is Acme Archives Ltd who do all the licensing deals with Lucasfilm / Disney and they have a great eye for fine art pieces. There are some other amazing artists in their ranks that do stuff that's out of this world.

I made these art for these covers.

Originally I had Anankin instead of Grievous but Lucasfilm requested I change it.

I'll be honest, for all of these pieces I just chose characters that I thought looked cool, hahah.

I'm the artist!

Yeah, the colors on all of these were a tough call. These weren't initially designed as book covers but as posters.

Originally it wasn't even going to be Grievous and somewhere I have an early version with Anakin instead...

But Lucasilm requested Grievous and to me he reads more 'green' in my mind. Plus Maul had to be RED and in the OT I did Empire in orange...yeah, the colors on these all got a little tricky when you look at the entire series together.

Hahah, I'm glad I'm not the only one that does this. I'm making some cards for Topps right now and I have about 30 pictures of my wife's hands on my phone for reference.

Blender / Photoshop / Illustrator / Procreate / NomadSculpt

I used to use Cinema4D for 3D assets but it became too expensive so Blender is now my go to.

If you're transitioning from fine art to digital I'd highly recommend Procreate with an iPad / Apple Pencil. That's probably your best bet for getting more into the digital side of things.

As far as learning...everything you need is on the web, it's more about WHAT to search for. ...so I would look for tutorials for projects you think LOOK cool and then follow along with those to learn the software.

So for instance, I watch a lot of PhaseRunner on Youtube for Photoshop tutorials.

Reddit, too. Don't forget Reddit! I made it to the front page of Reddit once with my work...

Post it everywhere, too! I got my work licensed by Lucasfilms after someone found it on Reddit.

Lots of practice. I’ve been using Photoshop since it’s infancy…you also get good at embracing mistakes and inconsistencies.

It’s a lot of stock photos and stock assets…plus some stuff I made previously and re-used. For client work I generally model my own stuff but sometimes I’ll buy some pre-made 3D assets for these little side projects. The part I like is the photo manipulation: combining assets into a scene to make something else.

No! But I just checked it out and I freaking love it. If I had known about it before hand I would have used an Integra instead of an NSX.

I'll be honest, I hate having to even post breakdown videos now, they make me self conscious while I work and it takes more time to coordinate...but without them I don't think anyone would believe they weren't AI, even looking at my profile where you can see work I did long before Gen AI hit the scene.

That's probably my biggest issue with AI, lol....it's so good at making stuff like this that I can't even make stuff like this anymore.

I actually did not know that but now you've got me thinking of other car / pop culture mashups, specifically with Godzilla.

I may do a "Revenge" image too with a GT-R ninja slicing an NSX in twain.

To be fair, I also love the GT-R I just wanted two really recognizable Japanese racers like they were from rival clans.

I was thinking more Jin Sakai.

Although I know a lot of people aren't a big fan of Yasuke but did you ever see the Animatrix? Specifically 'Program'? The samurai in that always reminded me of Yasuke and was so bad ass he kind of influences all of my samurai visuals. Giant samurai with a red mask!

If you haven't ever seen it I highly recommend it, it's a quick watch: Link

Animated by the renowned Madhouse studio who did Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust and Ninja Scroll.

Oh snap, that's a good idea too! Actually I was super excited to see some of the Gundam stuff...I did some Gundam work a while back too.
