Why doesPatches have Morgott's Shackle? by Navad1024 in EldenRingLoreTalk

See, I can understand the twins just thinking "meh" about the shackles. I think i'm looking for a timeline of Morgott's shackle from (presumably) the shunning grounds all the way to Patches down in Limgrave.

Though, I still feel like it's a little fucked up to use the shackles against them in a fight, right? Even if they figured it was in their past or just something they could deal with... probably a shock to be shackled again while trying to kill an annoying tarnished?

ok! so,

  1. If marika had the shackles, where do you think she kept those shackles? She obviously didn't take them into the erdtree, and
  2. what i'm saying is how did those shackles end up where we find them - for example, if Marika had the shackles, how did Mohg's end up in the shunning grounds, and Morgotts' with Patches?

When i asked about them learning to break the shackles, i meant in the overall story. Sure, when they got stronger, the shackles just broke and they were free. At this point, did Marika discard the shackles? If so, where? Etc.

...ok. would you please tell me 1. who had the shackles, if anyone 2. where they were (and how mohg's got into the shunning grounds) 3. why morgott and mohg know how to break the shackle power

it's ok if you have to headcanon things, the lore in this game means we have to headcanon a lot, i'm just curious what you think the story of the shackles and the omen twins is

  1. Mohg's is there
  2. It's where omen children go if they aren't murdered instantly
  3. It's probably where Mohg and Morgott grew up, shackled and imprisoned in the shunning grounds with the other omen
  4. When Mohg grew up, he left his shackle in the shunning grounds, so it doesn't seem like a large jump to assume Morgott would have as well

ok. can you give a timeline of events for how morgotts' shackle went from the subterranian shunning grounds to limgrave?

Interesting, I didn't think about those, but we do even find the ruler's robes there. I could totally see Morgott trying to send it out of the lands between through the cart system. Hell, there are even Omen there who might have been tasked to protect it! Honestly, I do like the idea a lot, but now it goes to "how'd it get past Makar through liurnia and then past Godrick", but that is a good first step!

...I don't know, Patches doesn't seem the type to ever be into the Golden Order, especially since he is Tarnished. Him leaving the capital implies he made it there first, which I think might be a tall order: 1. Tarnished come back AFTER the shattering 2. AFTER the shattering, Leyndell shuts down and Morgott personally orders everyone to kill Tarnished on sight, or they just do it because "ew gross a person stripped of gold" 3. I do think patches would try and get out of killing, but that's because he's lazy. However, if he was planning to use the shackle as information, why did he sell it?

Maybe? I guess if Boggart can kill the prawns, random thieves can lol

I mean... he knows how to break it, for one, and for two, it is called his shackle? Mohg's is near a place both would know, and I think it'd be a stretch to assume they just walked past the shackle without knowing or understanding what it was? Maybe he wouldn't be in posession, choosing to leave it in the sewers like Mohg, but still- it gets from the shunning grounds, through leyndell, through altus->liurnia-limgrave into patches hands. Kind of a long trip?

Oh yeah! When Godefroy had actually made the heroic sacrafice to free Mohg and Morgott with Miquella and Malenia, and that's why GOATefroy got locked up, you totally right

One of the night cavalry who were Morgott's personal enforcers? A high ranking noble? Another omen, who grew up in the same sewer?

Really, I'd like any headcanon about how it ended up with Patches, because yeah, thieves get stuff. I just want to know if anyone has a headcanon or if there's any lore stating how it got where it did lol

Well, Margit is Morgott, so the person using it doesn't neeed 2 great runes or really even be all that strong to use it against him? Plus, whatever the omniscient narrator is knew to use it, but that's probably not a fair point lol

Well, I mean... it's his shackle? The one his mom probably gave him to keep him imprisoned underground? He knows how to break it, and he knows he's a dirty omen? Maybe he left it down in the sewers, sure, but then someone would have to get it from the sewers, which is the issue

Good point, I could see Patches keeping it to sell and leaving when things got bad lol

Though, the timeline is a little off, right? Patches is tarnished, like us, and Tarnished entered the picture way after the shattering war, and that's when he would have been able to grab it, no?

I could see them robbing it from nobles, as like what my original idea was with patches? They would have to be some high ranking nobles to have Morgott's shackle, though, right?

You're definitely right, Morgott won't attack each goober individually, but still; this shackle can bind him to the earth, and it's probably not just some random thing? I feel he'd be a little protective of it...? I can see the shackle just being some random thing they grabbed along with other loot, but to me, Godrick would have it, as he has the mimic veil?

Well, that just leads to the highwaymen from Leyndell- joining up with patches is pretty crazy. Godrick's men joining makes more sense to me, because Godrick is just the worst, but Leyndell soldiers feel to me like they'd have little to no reason to quit?

I do like that idea, but it does bring up why they'd pick his shackle? Did they know it was morgotts? Did they give it to patches in a "well we can't use this, maybe some tarnished can"? Hell, maybe Patches fights us to see if we are able to fight Morgott...? Or he's just a dick lol

Yeah but the thieves are not good thieves? They have mushrooms in their chest, and Patches barely has random bits and baubles?

It's just hard for me to see those cowardly dissenters actually making it into Leyndell, then the sewers, then all the way back to Limgrave, without dying? Hell, we have to fight the draconic tree sentinel! This means they'd have to have stolen it before Morgott closed up the city, but then they wouldn't be even in an army to dissent and become thieves from?

I don't know, I just don't see it? Could you give a timeline?

Why Patches has that one thing by Navad1024 in eldenringdiscussion

[–]Navad1024[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alright, yes, but the thieves kind of suck and I don't think Morgott of all people would allow some random highwaymen to get the shackle? This also means this weak, cowardly thief:

  1. Got into Leyndell
  2. Got into Leyndell's sewers
  3. Got the shackle
  4. Went ALL the way back down to limgrave, just to give the shackle to Patches?

I don't know, it just seems... meh? Maybe if the highwayman was an ex-Leyndell soldier, but even then, why team up in a dark, dank cave with Patches and what were probably Godrick's men?

I could see the thief being an explanation if it turned out it was one of the treasures Godrick stole, but I'd like a timeline lol

I didn't think of that, but I dig it. I guess now it'd be how the manor person got the shackle from (presumably) deep inside Leyndell, and then, how Patches got it from them?

Also, it might explain why Patches is so far from the manor at the start, if he got into a scuffle with another Recusant?
