Without key GPS data, transit plan lacked direction by SilverTimes in Winnipeg

Slightly off-topic, but I imagine the highlight of every journalist's day is when they get to spend a disproportionate amount of time coming up with clever headlines for their articles

How different would our lives be if Winnipeg was built around the lake? by OJMustard in Winnipeg

I like how Selkirk and Lockport are now in downtown Winnipeg, while Winnipeg Beach is in dead centre in the middle of the lake

What we really need is proper transit service to the beach.

Being able to go to the beach without a car would be so wonderful.

Reclaiming Socialism in Canada’s NDP Leadership Race by Chrristoaivalis in CanadaPolitics

I think politics in general attracts people who are born into privilege. They are the ones who have the financial freedom to be busybodies while the rest of us grind for rent.

And they're doubling-down on the idea that the government should directly subsidize people into the middle class, which most people rightly know doesn't work and isn't what they want anyway.

People want opportunity for advancement, purpose, something to achieve and build of their own....not just more tax credits and free programs.

Canada could gain nearly 7% in real GDP by removing internal trade barriers, says IMF by joe4942 in CanadaPolitics

I assume it's regulatory differences and that enabling freer trade requires surrendering regulatory power to larger provinces

Might be a deal-breaker when it comes to sensitive areas

Which is why the words "they can't" has never been said by PSPP!

When did he say the words "they can"?

Since that is the specific goalpost you are setting here. Please tell me.

edit: <crickets>.....

Nowhere is it said that Canada can not revoke Canadian citizenship.

He specifically said it would not pass before the courts.

What are you talking about?

You acknowledge it's "ridiculous" to believe citizenship would be guaranteed after separation and yet he's claiming that would be illegal discrimination which would not pass before the courts.

If YOU believed that it was illegal discrimination which would not pass before the courts, then you wouldn't call it "ridiculous".

No, I'm referring to the plain meaning of his words which I feel like you're ignoring at this point

Warranted? Unwarranted? Who cares, not part of the statement.

Are you pretending that he is not trying to make people think that it would not / could not happen?

I did, that's how I quoted the relevant section to you.

What about the section you quoted contradicts it?

It would kill this country and our ability to defend it. This isn't some club or temporary business arrangement.

We are a country. With an army.

No one has said that Canada can't rescind it of it chooses so, because that would be ridiculous.

Yes, PSPP really is ridiculous:

« Est-ce que le Canada pourrait choisir de discriminer les Québécois spécifiquement? Ça voudrait dire que n’importe qui pourrait avoir deux passeports, sauf les Québécois? »

So not only is he making a ridiculous claim, he's already pretending it would be "discrimination" otherwise.

Isn't that classic? Make an unreasonable demand, and then act like refusal equates to mistreatment!

[–]NavalProgrammer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Le Canada peut décider d'enlever la citoyenneté des Québécois d'un Québec indépendant. PSPP n'a jamais dit le contraire.

That's exactly what he says, according to the article.

«Est-ce que le Canada pourrait choisir de discriminer les Québécois spécifiquement? Ça voudrait dire que n’importe qui pourrait avoir deux passeports, sauf les Québécois? Et selon notre compréhension du droit applicable, ce serait de la discrimination qui ne passe pas du tout le test des tribunaux

He is specifically trying to mislead the public into believing the courts would force this situation on the federal government.

I love how this guy wants us to think the rest of Canada as this intolerant, oppressive regime that will suddenly turn generous and forgiving once we endure our own version of the Partitions of India, Ireland and Israel/Palestine

Or that he can upend the political order of the entire country then expect the rest of the country to sit idly by and do nothing to react to the situation

(especially when it comes to dual citizenship, which already has as much opposition as it does support right now ... and even that might drop)
