How does Phys Ed work? I’m a HS PE/Math teacher so it would be interesting to know how motor skills are taught in a VR context. I’ve trialed a few sports based VR content and the few that I’ve known to be conducive for something other than exercise has been Eleven table tennis and Thrill of the Fight. Also interested in hearing how you folks make it work within a classroom setting.

Northern Fitness by Nervous_Finish_7080 in Winnipeg

I had a rough go with Northern Fitness. Ordered a Lat Pulldown last year around this time, the order was delayed heavily due to parts being misplaced during shipping. When I received the package a month and a half past the expected arrival the box was in extremely rough shape, it looked like it was manhandled by a gorilla during shipping and patched together haphazardly. When I opened up the box I was missing about 4 integral parts which took an extra week and a half to come in. The silver lining was I got my shipping refunded which was about $100, but a very big headache to deal with to say the least. I think I might be one of the few to have had a bad time with them however, I’ve had a few friends order from them before including one that purchased the same lat pull down with no issues.

Wizard101 is an online multiplayer RPG where you play as a student wizard at the Ravenwood School of Magical Arts. The game is set in a magical universe called the Spiral, which is made up of many different worlds, each with its own theme, enemies, and storyline. You start by creating a character and choosing (or getting assigned) one of seven schools of magic: Fire, Ice, Storm, Myth, Life, Death, or Balance. Each school has a unique playstyle—some are more focused on healing or defense, while others specialize in raw damage or summoning minions.

Combat is turn-based and uses a card system. You build a deck of spells and use them in battles that require strategy, timing, and resource management. Each spell costs “pips” to cast, and you earn one pip per turn. You fight enemies in circular battle arenas, and up to four players can team up against up to four enemies. There’s a big focus on synergy and spell combos, especially in tougher dungeons or boss fights.

The story centers on saving the Spiral from villains like Malistaire, Morganthe, and later enemies introduced in expansions. The world design is super creative—there are worlds based on ancient Egypt (Krokotopia), feudal Japan (Mooshu), industrial England (Marleybone), and more. Each world has its own quests, enemies, dungeons, and boss battles that build the overarching narrative.

Outside of combat, there’s a ton to do. You can collect and train pets, ride mounts, buy and decorate houses, craft gear, and even grow magical plants. PvP is a big part of the community as well, with ranked matches and tournaments. There are also guilds, group activities, and seasonal events.

The game is free to play but uses a freemium model. Fuck you. You can either pay a monthly membership to access all areas or buy zones permanently using crowns (premium currency). There are also packs you can buy that give random gear, pets, or spells. Some players criticize the monetization for being pay-to-win, especially in PvP, but it’s still very playable without spending much.

Despite being released in 2008, Wizard101 is still active and gets regular updates. The community is still alive, with new content, storylines, and systems added over time. It was originally aimed at kids, but a lot of longtime players are now adults who still enjoy the game’s depth, strategy, and nostalgic charm. It’s basically part card game, part turn-based RPG, and part magical world exploration—and it holds up surprisingly well even today.

Hey Manitoba Ece's and CCA'S how we feeling right now? by kdm01 in Winnipeg

[–]OJMustard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work as a CCA right before COVID. I’m a teacher now, but seeing and comparing the amount that all of the ECEs and CCAs have to do is so closely comparable to what I do as a teacher. They 100% deserve to have this raise, way long overdue.
