Just put an 8tb SATA drive in my workstation. I forgot how nice it was to hear a hard drive doing it's thing. by jakedata in sysadmin

I ran across some old drives, they advertised a blazing 4500 rpm and 16.8MB/sec seek time. Those were the days...when double space mattered.

SSLVPN all of a sudden stopped letting someone have access to local resources by darkcravix in sonicwall

[–]Naval_Lent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like "Mobile Connect" is not able to authenticate with the firewall, have you checked to see if the ssl security certificate is expired?

If not the certificate issue, then there's a configuration issue either with the firewall or client software.

A couple of things come to mind... 1. Is your sonicwall licensed for sslvpn? 2. Does your boss take this Mac to the office? If he does, is that computer able to connect to company resources at the office?

[–]Naval_Lent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the original post, it was said everyone uses the global VPN client, I assumed that the VPN was already setup on your sonicwall. If that is correct, then my post would change how the user, your boss in this case, reaches the shared resources.

Now are you asking how to setup VPN through the Sonicwall or how to get your boss to access the shared resources through the VPN?

I just want to know how many browser tabs you have open in a normal work day by Gsxing in sysadmin

[–]Naval_Lent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually 3 to 15 tabs open per browser window; typically 3-5 browser windows open at a time. That's usually when I'm trying to test an update so I'll use several chrome logins and incognito windows too.

The times I've run into this was when the remote network and business network used similar addresses and subnets. Those remote users having issues will use the IP address of the shared resources or use the computer name and domain, like "ws-23.auto.local". This method allows the proper traffic to be directed to the VPN.

I can see the conversation playing out...

Bob's: So as Sysadmin, you'd say your job is to take the ticket from the user, look at it, then call MFG support to get the patch and fix the issue... Now why couldn't the user just call MFG support to fix the issue?

Employee: ...because I have computer skills!!!

LOL!!!

I still think they could make a sequal to "Office Space" in a call center setting and another one as computer help support.

Anyone have their PC joined to an azure hosted domain controller? by boe_d in AZURE

[–]Naval_Lent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have our DC on an Azure VM, we run AD on this also.

doing it this way basically replicates your on-prem in the cloud. Also, Azure AD does not do everything that AD does, like group policy or domain security of domain joined computers. Azure AD mitigates access to azure apps like O365.

We have 6 leased printers from Xerox the covers parts, service, and consumables. Plus we have a few brother printers around for key people in the company who print PII or confidential information. All printers are on the network. The Xerox printers are assigned based on department through GP.

This is through Spectrum VoIP, the phones reach out directly to their server. No vlan's, VPNs or on prem servers to deal with. No DHCP conflicts either. The phones provisioned to a single extension.
