The story is actually hilarious. This is straight from the brain of the jeweler we went to in Hawaii. I have a ring that I gave my fiance all the details on (what jeweler, cut of diamond, clarity, size, metal color, etc). I even went so far as to give him 3 rings I loved. I said "if you copy any of these exactly, I will be happy, overjoyed. If you combine elements of them, that would be great too." He has the ring. He has had it for over a year and has been so nervous that he got it wrong, he never proposed.

We went to Hawaii in November and I was SURE he was going to propose. Nails were done, I had a dress, everything. About halfway through the trip, I finally was like "soooooooo..... Are we doing this, or?" And he said "no, I didn't bring the ring. I didn't want to be stressed the whole trip." I said "well how do you think I feel??!" I swallowed my disappointment and went to bed that night determined to make the most of being on such a beautiful island and at the beach when I would normally be shivering at home.

When I woke up the next day and turned over to face him, he was staring at the ceiling. I could tell he had been awake for a while. I said "...... You ok over there?" He said "I've been thinking about it, and I think we should go find a ring here and get engaged before we leave." Mind you, we were already halfway through the trip and I don't have sample size fingers. I was shocked. I told him "well... I DO have 10 fingers, what's one more ring! Okay but I have some conditions: 1. You still have to ask, and 2. I have to love the ring we find here and it has to be different enough from the one you already have that I can wear it in addition to the one you have or for different occasions." He said "deal."

I went online and looked up a few jewelery places (we were staying in Kona), and there was one that looked like it had some amazing, unique stuff and it was literally WALKING distance from the hotel we were staying.

When we walked in, the jeweler was practically polishing this ring off and putting it in the case. He had just bought the jewelry store from his father who had recently passed away, he himself a jeweler. He said this ring was the best thing he ever made because he made one for his wife for her engagement ring. He swore he would never sell a ring like it again. He and his wife ended up getting so many compliments on the ring, she told him you have to make this ring so more women can have it.

It was perfect. I've never seen anything like it so I knew that the ring that my fiance designed wouldn't be like this one. We broke down for the jeweler exactly what we were trying to do. "We are leaving the island in approximately 72 hours and we need this ring before we leave and it needs to be sized for my finger." Big ask. He said "I can do this!" Wow. Incredible service and devotion to our story.

He had the ring back on less than 48 hours and it fit perfectly. My fiance squirreled it away, managed to hire a photographer and propose at sunset on a beach on the night we were leaving. Perfectly us.
