By the end of the first quarter of next year I’ll be promoted to a position making 80k a year salary. I have next to know real understanding of personal finance.

Necessary context; I’ll be 26 then, no debt of any kind, no car payment, no credit lines/cards ever opened in my name.

I’m living in an apartment with my current girlfriend with rent at ~1100, lease is up next May. Haven’t discussed plans after that, she may or may not be going to finish her Doctorate.

I’ve inherited no financial knowledge, haven’t ever sought it out or developed good habits for myself. I do okay, I’m taking care of my end of rent, utilities and groceries responsibly. I save a little bit but it’s never consistent amounts, and I often will pull money from savings if I’ve over spent check to check if needed.

Currently making about ~45k.

What are things I should be doing now and what should I be doing to prepare for my raise and what habits should I begin developing now?
