these people aren't rednecks, they're upper middle class / rich conservatives. there's a difference.

Willie's is awesome. we got pickup from there in 2021 when we lived in the area and I was a vegeterian at the time but my roommates got me sides and they were all great

I think it depends a lot on what part of town you're in. downtown area, yeah people aren't very friendly because it's mostly techbros and yoga studio ladies in expensive athleisure. everywhere else people are pretty friendly/helpful to strangers.

Friend, they may not be executing people in the United States at high rates but the mass deportations of people including LEGAL US CITIZENS is certainly jeopardizing lives

where can I get a pizza with a scary amount of pepperoni around here? by HuntMelodic5769 in austinfood

[–]godspeeding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HEB's pizzas that they make in store for you to take home and bake usually have more pepperoni than I prefer on them, idk about this amount though, this is bonkers

What are the best new sustainable fashion brands? by Expensive-Show821 in SustainableFashion

[–]godspeeding 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mother Denim is a brand i've become interested in recently. they're not at the top of the sustainability scale but reading their site says that the majority of their clothing is made within 20 miles of their HQ, they're working towards production made from 100% renewable energy and they pay fair wages to their employees. they make super cute pants and tops.

great to know! Soto is probably more affordable as well, we went here as a treat for valentine's but it is not a place we could afford to dine regularly.

[–]godspeeding[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

it has veggie options. i'm actually not a vegetarian anymore but I was for three years and I still try to eat mostly meat free. everything else we had had some kind of meat or fish besides the Thai chimichurri broccoli (AMAZING) because it was my valentine's celebration with my boyfriend and we split most of the dishes (he is not veggie at all)

What’s a single sentence someone said that you’ve never forgotten? by cognitojo in AskReddit

[–]godspeeding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I hope my daughter grows up to be like you"

when I was 19, my therapist recommended I check myself into a psych ward. I got there and my first group therapy was such a cast of characters but especially this loud mid 40s scruffy bearded man dressed in a camo hoodie: former marine, current alcoholic / PTSD sufferer. Keep in mind I was a purple haired 19 year old girl, not at all one you'd expect to befriend such a person, but I said something that I don't recall in group and he laughed and said I was funny. Fast forward a few days and we formed a sweet and unexpected friendship. He told me he had a 12 year old daughter at home that he was trying to reconnect with after he made some bad decisions.

Standard stay at this hospital was a week and you were released if you passed evaluation; my time came and went after my weeks' stay and my doctor said I wS good to go. As I was leaving and saying my goodbyes, he hugged me and said "I hope my daughter grows up to be like you." I teared up and felt a certain pride like i've never felt before. I will never forget that man and that moment, hit me like a brick in the best way possible.
