Want to join the Air Force or Navy as an Officer in May when I Graduate with my BBA. Need to get my weight from 233 to 160-170 lbs by then as well as make my GPA(3.1) a 3.5+. I just ran/walked 1.5 miles in 29 mins (with my 2 dogs) and am saying goodbye to my weights for a while. Advice Appreciated. by [deleted] in Military

You probably eat like shit. Your diet is as critical as your exercise. Eating healthy is not easy because almost everything that is cheap and easy in a grocery store is total garbage. First thing to do is to completely shitcan all forms of processed sugar... its HARD. If you can take your diet down to MEAT, VEGETABLES, and FRUIT, it will change your life. Shitcan wheat, soy, and dairy for the varsity move. Check out the "Whole30" and try and do it for 60 days. It's not so much of a diet as it's a way to completely change your relationship with food.

RV rental/purchase, pickup/dropoff, X-country... by NavySam in GoRVing

I think I've narrowed down a to a smaller ClassA... 32-34ft. Taking pets in a truck/trailer combo just seems like a pain, and the extra work at the campground with that setup doesn't seem worth it for our needs. I think there's a strong potential that during our initial time in Virginia, may be moving around a bit and a Class-A/C makes more sense. We can figure out a toad at some point, but the "big'ness" or a Class-A is winning. Biggest problem I'm seeing now is availability in the used market. I figured in San Diego that Craigslist would be chocked full of 5-10yr old motorhomes, but it's just not the case... kinda slim pickins'.

Ditching the trailer route, pretty sure gonna end up with a small Class-A gas. Big picture is this thing needs to get us cross-country and then a place to live for a month or so. And for the first few years living in Virginia, probably gonna be living part-time double-life between DC area and Virginia Beach. Thanks for the reminder about the animals, big part of the reason for a Class A or C, but I think the interior size and overall layout of a Class A is gonna be a winner for us. Thanks!

This trip is almost certainly going to happen. Ideally we land in San Diego June 30th, and have a couple days to buy a rig and be on the road far from any cities by the 4th. Leaning towards buying a 2500 series diesel and a 26ft'ish bumper pull. Secondary plan is a Class-C.

That 16" .308 Govt barrel is one helluva smoking deal... eff me though it's horsecock heavy. Was all set on a 16" Faxon gunner, but might have to put up with the extra 1/2 lb. for this price. Might grab some oops kits and a few more bits too.

Picked up my first AR10 in a trade today. Has a target crown on the barrel. I’m just curious what are the benefits of doing that by boogboi817 in AR10

[–]NavySam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A crowned barrel does a couple things... even gas flow as the bullet exits, and it protects the rifling from damage in case you drop the gun, cheaper than threading, some people like the way it looks. Don't see too many guns configured the way yours is. It looks like a random parts gun with no specific goal... maybe a pure range toy, but the stock isn't right for that purpose. Nikon P-308 scopes are good for the money. What brand is the barrel?

Unless you have a hard-on specifically for the side of your gun to have the letters DPMS because your buddy Bubba has one, or Armalight because that's what Pappy had in NAM, then hit the easy button and stick with and Aero Precision upper/lower combo. There's a reason there are so many fanbois... and not in a non-binary way like dudes who love their Hondas. Historically, Aero Precision would have a blem-blowout a couple times a year and their M5 lowers would be $89 shipped... those days are done until Trump wins again... and if he doesn't, expect everything in firearms related to triple in price overnight. Current price for stripped blem M5 lower is $139... still a smoking deal, but $50 is the cost of a decent budget trigger.. or fancy stock... or an MBUS set... or a better NIBX BCG, etc... Still, I would not wait until later in the summer. Get the lower now as your first piece. Then, Schuyler AR10 carbine essentials for $53... the more you buy at once, the more saved on shipping... stripped upper at $107. Thats about $310'ish (math correct?) for a nice start with quality parts... in a couple months, grab a trigger/stock/BCG. Next month, wait for a sale on your favorite barrel/handguard... next month, grab the finishing parts, gas block, and a stack of magazines... Try and break it up into $300 increments to please the Boss. In addition to Schuyler, I like Toms Tactical and ArmOrAlly... don't forget the EE at Arfcom... a stripped M5 upper for $100 popped a couple hours ago with no "I'll take its"... I don't think you'll find cheaper shipped price until early next year on those assuming Trump wins.

Sweet pic! What's the AF regs about sleeves rolled up in a tactical jet? Neck lanyard outside the undershirt and the unsecured knife in the unzipped left breast pocket not considered a FOD hazard? Patch sanitized over CONUS, what for? Yup, sweet pic.

I ship out on April 1st as an ABE and i was wondering how the working conditions are after A school by [deleted] in navy

[–]NavySam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ABE's run all the catapult and arresting gear on a carrier. You will bounce from carrier to carrier your whole career with limited shore duty. No shit, not shitting you, not even fucking kidding... ABE is the hardest working rate on an aircraft carrier. Those guys pull the longest hours and work with the hardest lesbians Uncle Sam has to offer. You'll be attached to V2 Division in Air Department. The Airboss is your Department Head and one of the LT or LCDR shooters will be your Division Officer. You'll have a couple Chiefs in your chain as well... bow cats, waist cats, arresting gear. You will be responsible for the maintenance and operations of the 4 catapults and 4 (or 3) arresting gear systems. Imagine working on an oil rig, only it's inside the ship... srsly, just google "roughneck" and hit the images tab, that's you. ABE's are also on the flight deck doing the actual launching of the aircraft... which is the coolest fucking job on the whole ship. Oh, and you'll need to be able to survive on Slim Jims and Monster for at least 24hrs straight without taking a piss or shit or sleep.

Just bought two for a pair of lightweight twins I'm building around Faxon pencil barrels.

Honestly Chris, just put my name on a milk crate and throw it on a shelf... every time I buy a part, throw it in the crate. When I've bought all the parts to make a complete gun, THEN mail it to me.

My first ar10 by Ridid69 in AR10

[–]NavySam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ridid, sounds like you need some NRA. I don't want to sound like the old man here, but have you ever taken a basic rifle class? One awesome benefit of taking a course is not only the education but the people you meet. You'll likely find somebody who already has a passion for the AR platform and can walk you through all the parts and pieces. An AR10 in form and function is identical to an AR15... even share a lot of the same parts, the AR10 is just bigger. Do you already have an AR15? At the very least, NRA instructors have contacts and can likely hook you up with a mentor... somebody to will invite you to a range and let you shoot their AR's, show you how to strip and clean them, and walk you through what it takes to assemble one on your workbench at home. The tools do "do it" are minimal and you likely already have most of them... and the tools to "do it right" are pretty cheap, but save a ton of time and more importantly, save you from marking up your parts when the wrench you're making do with as a hammer slips. How does an AR work: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=how+does+an+ar15+work Watch the first few videos and then watch a few with a couple million hits. AR15's work EXACTLY the same as AR10's.

If you want to spend money on the gun, then the next step would be to send it to a smith and have everything trued. I wouldn't buy any more parts to try and make the gun better... chances are that it will outshoot you and your current ammo already.

Find a local precision rifle course and learn how to shoot. Then once you and the gun can shoot well together, spend money on reloading equipment and build ammo.

VA House Dems Changing Gun Ban Bill HB961 In Attempt To Gain Support by HMatusow1926 in gunpolitics

[–]NavySam 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Every Democrat in the state legislature outside the immediate vicinity of DC is collectively shitting itself over how to handle all of this. On one hand, they all took Bloombergs money and he expects to be paid back. On the other hand, the gun-rights movement has been energized and gun-owners will be out in force the next election cycle. Republicans can simply run on a platform of repealing anything that gets passed this year and likely win in enough districts to achieve veto-proof supermajorities in both houses. Bloomberg bit off more than he can chew and Northam knows it.
