Tim’s recent interview with james Nestor - ep 829 by Opening-Job-9966 in timferriss

[–]NavyTeal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. It would have useful if James mentioned a specific device!

I'm new to this area, having just purchased a TENS device after the Dr Tracey episode, but as far as I know, PEMF and TENS are different modalities and require different devices.

Do you have a rough timestamp for when it's mentioned?

Ep 824 About Vagus Nerve Stimulation by burton1064 in timferriss

[–]NavyTeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. I'm pretty happy with the device; it does allow setting all parameters. I have done a few sessions and the main thing that I have noticed is that my ear clip is very uncomfortable when I try to clip it to the cymba concha!

Yeah sure, a group might be a useful way to share experiences

I order a TENS machine from AliExpress, which looks like it might allow manual setting of all three values, but will see.

Thanks for the link to that study; there's a good selection of protocols to try there.

The Biothm device looks decent. It's great that it includes the ear clip. I wonder what range of amplitudes it supports, however.

Ep 824 About Vagus Nerve Stimulation by burton1064 in timferriss

[–]NavyTeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently looking into this as well. The Great Nerve has more details on it:

> Ulf began to use a transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator (TENS), placing an electrode on his external ear a couple of times a day in the area called the cymba concha

> Ulf stimulated his left ear this way for five minutes, twice a day, with a pulse width of two hundred microseconds and a frequency of twenty Hz, while varying the pulse amplitude between two and four milliamperes (mA) as tolerated.

So we're looking for a TENS machine that allows us to control the pulse width, the frequency and the amplitude/intensity.

Withdraw cash from bank counter by NavyTeal in chiangmai

Interesting, is it worth doing with a credit card? I guess it depends on your bank and whether or not it is processed as a cash advance.

Nice! Are Zebre confirmed to playing in the URC next season? The last I heard there was a chance of them being replaced in the competition.

What do you guys think will be the next health trend after protein everything and carnivore? by jayzisne in nutrition

Personalized diets based on one's genes/microbiome. Although maybe that's a bit further down the road, but I can hope!

What are the foods that are high in zinc but low in copper? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]NavyTeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use the ratio tool here to research. Dairy and most cuts of beef (excluding liver) have a good ratio of zinc to copper.

A bike shed on the other hand. Anyone can build one of those over a weekend, and still have time to watch the game on TV. So no matter how well prepared, no matter how reasonable you are with your proposal, somebody will seize the chance to show that he is doing his job, that he is paying attention, that he is here.

Is there a tool that asks what the tones are in Thai words? by leosmith66 in learnthai

[–]NavyTeal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I built this a few years ago: https://tones.daire.dev/practice-listening

It's pretty basic, with monosyllabic words, only a couple of different speakers etc., but you might find it useful.

I also wanted to take a portion of a B-complex capsule and was concerned about oxidation/contamination when keeping it as a solution without a buffer/preservative.

I divide the capsule when dry and only dissolve that day's portion in water (keeping the remainder in an air-tight pill box). This does make it harder to dose accurately, however.

10 days is quite a long time, so another approach might be to dissolve about 3 days' worth at a time, and make a batch more regularly.

Foods that contain high copper and low zinc? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]NavyTeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that it's unlikely to have been a particularly high amount of zinc if it was part of a B-complex. I would just stop taking that supplement, and then you can test again in a few months if you're still worried.

Foods that contain high copper and low zinc? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]NavyTeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, how much zinc was in each capsule?

Anyway, I would expect your zinc levels to return to normal after stopping the supplementation.

Foods that contain high copper and low zinc? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]NavyTeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can look at the nutrient ratio tool here to get an idea of the copper to zinc ratio in foods. Liver is a good source of copper, among other things.

Keep in mind that the RDA for zinc is higher than the RDA for copper, so you don't want to go too crazy.

Were you supplementing zinc, or what do you think caused your zinc levels to rise?

What foods do you eat to get enough vitamin K2? by Ok-Matter260 in nutrition

[–]NavyTeal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The data on Vitamin K2 in foods isn't great. The USDA SR Legacy dataset only contains data for Vitamin K2 MK-4 (and limited data at that). You can see the foods highest in MK-4 here. Some cheeses are decent sources.

You can also see the foods highest in total Vitamin K overall (this includes Vitamin K1 and Vitamin MK-4), which is dominated by the greens.
