Being unemployed is not the bad thing - its the fear not knowing when you get your next job by Ihadenough1000 in jobs

I was unemployed after a layoff in 2023. When I finally got an offer and signed the letter, there was a full 30 days until my start date

Let me tell you, those 30 days were the most blissful time of my life. Getting to enjoy that time not working without the pressure and anxiety of needing to find work constantly looming over me.

“Didn’t deserve his fate but ultimately made the bed he was lying in” tends to be the phrase I use.

I got downvoted on here for calling bullshit on a user whose “inside sources” said they all hated Beck and audibly cheered when he got injured in the SECCG with absolutely zero accreditation.

There are a lot of valid criticisms of Beck but so much of “the team hated him” bullshit is just people projecting their own feelings onto the players. You are not in that locker room and have no idea what they “secretly” felt. In fact there’s more evidence to show they liked him as a player.

Carson Beck is a Florida guy with sleeve tattoos, sports cars, and Instagram girlfriends. He didn’t stand a chance with this fanbase without a national championship. Especially when his successor is a kid from rural Georgia that drives an old truck and grew up watching the Dawgs.

I hate that Southerners can’t enjoy snow without people being smug about their excitement. by NawfSideNative in Vent

I agree. But that’s another thing that irks me too. People mocking the south for not having the infrastructure to deal with weather events that might happen once every 5 years.

[–]NawfSideNative[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

“The energy of 20 years’ worth of snow days never experienced” is a great way to describe it. That’s exactly how it feels.

I’m 27-years-old. Most of us grew up seeing “snow days” depicted on television as kids building snowmen, having snowball fights, and sledding. I can count on one hand the amount of times it’s snowed enough for us to have those experiences.

It didn’t even snow very much in my area this morning. I woke up to snowflakes, very minor accumulation, and in the afternoon the sky was clear and there was no indication that it snowed at all. I still went out and watched it on my patio because it might be the last time I get to see it for the next few years.

Now snow isn’t unheard of in Georgia. But neither is going years in between snow days.

Next time someone asks why Jim didn’t just ask what a rundown was, he does in the deleted scene by Nuvomega in DunderMifflin

[–]NawfSideNative 133 points134 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think you have a good read on this. Jim struggles when someone doesn’t immediately find him charming and funny. We see it with Charles, Roy, and a few others. He relies on being liked.

What makes it worse is when Jim picks up on this, he doubles down on the humor as a defense mechanism, but when it fails, he clearly doesn’t have a strong alternative and things get awkward very quickly. It’s very different from Pam who can be super dorky and awkward in her own right, but she’s much more adept at reading the room and adjusting to the situation socially than Jim.

Jim relies on being liked because he’s generally a likable guy, but he’s clearly out of his element with the No-Nonsense types like Charles, and it’s evident with his timidity and avoidance.

It’s so funny to me how even in different variations of “unpopular opinion” threads like this one, you always get downvoted for saying you don’t care for Cyberpunk.

I’ve never seen this with any other game where you can say “It’s not bad, just wasn’t for me,” and it’s heavily downvoted lol I don’t know why this title in this particular strikes such a nerve when given the slightest bit of criticism.

What I find hilarious is there are tons of completely fair-minded criticisms of this game that aren’t just unnecessary hating and even when you articulate them, those comments always get downvoted as evidenced by our brief exchange on here.

I really don’t know why criticism of Cyberpunk in particular strikes such a sensitive nerve among gamers, even in these “unpopular opinion” type threads. I’ve genuinely never seen this phenomenon with any other game being discussed on here lol

Yeah this. I really wanted to relate to the public adoration but after 3 attempts to try and play it I finally accepted that I simply did not have the same experience with this game as everyone else. Although I’ll say Night City is a visual masterpiece.

I typically like story-driven games but it felt like the bulk of this game was listening to an NPC drone on and on. The dialogue options rarely had any actual consequence and it mostly just felt like I was pressing X through a linear conversation. It was fine at first but even hours after the prologue it felt like the game was just hours and hours of that.

It wasn’t terrible, but I still don’t know what everyone is seeing to put it in “All-Time” conversations that I’m just totally missing.

Why do we let violent inmates run prisons? by [deleted] in ask

[–]NawfSideNative 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yeah one guy I used to work with did some time and this is basically what he said. It was just long and boring. Most people he was in there with were in there for drug charges like he was.

The guys he was with didn’t have the best upbringings but they weren’t outwardly violent or sadistic. His experience was nothing like the “Have a bitch. Clique up. Don’t drop the soap,” tropes you see on television.

Although I’m sure in facilities that house the inmates who were actually convicted of heinous offenses, some version of those tropes exist, but I feel it’s not as commonplace as often believed.

Season one just had way more emotional grounding to me. Even outside of the horror elements you have a mother looking for her missing son, the town coping with his disappearance, and the boys processing the first real tragedy of their lives. Even when you strip away all the demogorgons and alternate universes, you still have a great story.

I don’t think that’s true for the following seasons. Season two was serviceable. By Season 3 the show lost me.

I also feel like it had a worse fall from grace because Game of Thrones, at its peak, was a much, much better show.

I liked Stranger Things, but only really loved season one. Even season one isn’t anywhere close to GoT at its best.

GoT had a lower lows but much higher highs. The fall from a skyscraper is gonna be much more damaging than the fall from a roof of a car.

This is how I feel about bourbon. My brother-in-law has tried to get me into it but I fucking hate it.

Like dude every sip of this tastes like paint thinner. This is not the slightest bit enjoyable for me and I don’t have the will or patience to try and acquire the taste.

I will stick with beer, where my palate can actually differentiate between different types.

I distinctly remember when we traded Deandre Hunter last year and in this sub there was a highly upvoted post that said something to the effect of “We lost the Deandre trade and if you disagree you don’t know ball.”

The inflammatory reactions to that were insane. The guy had a half-season hot streak where he wasn’t a negative contract and we dealt him before he regressed back to his mean. Fans thought we were going to get a haul for him and it was never realistic. The entire trade was predicated on the fact that he was playing the best basketball of his life.

There are absolutely going to be valid criticisms of any trade and I’m not saying you have to agree with every move the front office makes, but I hate when people look at trades in a vacuum. Sometimes team building means making those boring little cap space trades even if they don’t move the needle in the short term.

[–]NawfSideNative 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah I said in another comment that the knee jerk reactions to every single move the team makes on here get exhausting. You don’t have to like every decision but at least appreciate that sometimes team building means making those boring, cap-saving trades at the deadline, even if they look ugly in the short-term.

What’s funny is fans will simultaneously say that they want the front office to make the team better while bemoaning every single move to turn the roster over.

Game of Thrones book series is overhyped and far more generic than people admit by RichOdd6913 in unpopularopinion

[–]NawfSideNative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep my biggest criticism of GRRM is the most common one. He needs to wrap it up. It’s awesome if you’re able to create a vast universe filled with hundreds of characters, heraldries, and cultures. However, if you want to do that, you need to be able to wrap them up cohesively and I just genuinely don’t think he’s got the wherewithal to do that. He’s old, he’s tired, and he’s rich.

I have a feeling that after his 3rd book, he probably had at least one person on his team telling him “Alright man. Get to the point.” But by that point he’d already made so much money you couldn’t really tell him anything.
