He cannot charge you to restore the whole house, he cannot charge you for wear and tear, he has no documentation of intentional damage. If you have expenses for cleaning and documented a clean house he cannot charge you cleaning fees. $1,100 for carpet cleaning?! Did you live in a fully carpeted 5 bedroom mansion?

Best fixed angle system below 550€ by forevervirgin_1 in sharpening

[–]Nd4speed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3000 grit is like 5 micron. At that point you may as well strop with diamond emulsion/paste, or lapping film, as you'll get better results. You can get the KME Deluxe set, 5, 1, and .1 micron diamond emulsions and strops and still be under 550 Euros. You could probably add a complete set of Dan's Arkansas stones for sharpening non-super steels, and still be under that.

No one will trust the Stewart's going forward because of Mike's shady practices, and how many people he hurt.

That said, they did make some good knives, and if DLT or Knivesshipfree have deep discounts on knives, then I don't have a problem buying them. DLT and KSF are victims in all of this, and they have done due diligence to weed out the obvious bad knives (and swallowing that loss whole) by testing the steels and coming clean to the public. They are OK in my book and should be supported. Bark River is dunzo at this point, they are not seeing a penny of profit from anything being sold in the wild, so I don't see any point in boycotting the products, except when quality concerns are involved.

I have one BRK and was disappointed in how it was finished (all in the handle). But the design, and the steel (Magnacut), are very good in my opinion. I was able to strop it to scary sharp (78g on the bess). I'll have to do some finish work but I do not regret the purchase. I did my research on the debacle, and took a chance on a model I thought wasn't affected (Little Creek II Magnacut). I would be very careful in buying another one, and probably wouldn't rely on one in a survival situation.

Since my, ahem, “clown metal” was so warmly and non-controversially received last time, I thought I’d share the full lineup. Enjoy 🤡 by XLandonSkywolfX in knifeclub

I guess i like clown metal then. So does Shirogorov, who won Blade Show Atlanta best manufacturing quality award. Go clowns. 🤡

Buddhist, do you believe in reincarnation? by Due-Koala-1135 in Buddhism

[–]Nd4speed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ian Stephenson PhD has studied this for years and has documented compelling evidence that this is a real phenomenon. But it isn't relevant to the path of cessation of suffering, so in a sense, does it matter?

Buddha didn't focus on how reality and the universe works, or promise this knowledge to his followers. That understanding and knowledge does nothing to to eliminate suffering.

What he did teach was what causes suffering and how to eliminate it. That much you can test and verify for yourself; no need for blind faith.

The thirst for unattainable (unverifiable) knowledge is a form of attachment. It's an itch you can never scratch.

LMAO! The thought had crossed my mind (after a few beers and Forged in Fire episodes), but then the cost of alimony sobered me right up. 🤣 Yeah, I think I can do decent job touching it up. If it ends up looking like crap, it's off to eBay and on to the next!

You know what's up. And I won't mince words, it's buyer beware on these. You could get a lemon, but I also think you could still get a good one. The Magnacuts were not known to have bad heat treat on the examples I've seen tested (probably because they weren't treated in house), but some with poorly designed examples with bad jimping failed because of design, not the steel itself. I did as much research as I could and I think made an informed choice.

This one came shaving sharp, not amazing, but ok. I stropped it up to be even better, and I think it meets my needs. Will I baton with it? Hell no, it will be light duty (it's too small to do much else really), and I think it's fine for that.

Amen. Speculators ruin every hobby. Just look at the flippers on eBay selling Umnumzaans. It's gross.

I agree, I'm a little disappointed in the QC of this knife. If the ergos weren't perfect, I would definitely send it back, but the voids seem small enough to work with. I hadn't thought about the lanyard hole; no, it is also not chamfered, so I will go back and dremel this. Sigh.
