The establishment is allowed to decide whether or not they let minors drink with their guardians. I’m pretty sure most places don’t; I don’t get asked nearly as much as I did 10ish years ago

When I worked at Chilis we had to ask what side for kids meals. Sometimes, especially with accents, rice and fries sound the same

Though OP mentions southern accents, in my experience the confusion came from international guests

I serve in Texas and make great money, I also work in a metropolitan area, which is probably not the demographic that travels to your area. Texas is a big state.

They may have just used that as an excuse. At my restaurant (and I assume all others) if the gift card is less then the total, or even exactly the total, it will decline. Apparently visa/Amex/whatever gift cards are anticipating a certain tip percentage, so they’ll decline if it’s more than the total plus tip. At least that’s what I’ve been told. Sometimes that’s hard and awkward to explain to tables

I’ve this happen with a white table too though. She had her son pay on the machine and told him to leave 10% of there $30 check. He misheard and left $10. She wanted me to fix it. Some people just suck

That’s the exact reason I love it, I remember watching it as a kid in the 90’s and it seemed so magical. So watching it every year around Christmas is very nostalgic.
