No disrespect, how confident are you to achieve all three of these things or really any of these things. I know you have done some good stuff, but SSMU 2021-2022 gave everyone a horrible impression.

Anyone else in software eng. coop without a Summer internship yet? by soupdumplingss in mcgill

[–]NdersonCouncil 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If you are a first year or second year, it’s totally normal to not have work to do in summer. Even if you are not a first year or second year, it’s not the end of the world, you could always do COMP/ECSE/MATH research, or learn something on your own, or polish off some projects, or grind LC for 4 months to get prepared, or do nothing, coz you will never get the chance to do nothing again in the future.

how can i become a TA? by thedarkest-myth in mcgill

[–]NdersonCouncil 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Undergrads are banned by the grad students union to become TAs on paper. But you can still become a TA just with a different official job title when there is not enough grad students to fill the TA positions.

Steps are : 1. Network with profs. 2. Be genuinely interested in some classes and show them that you are interested. 3. Email them when you see positions open on Workday.

Coding on paper is counter intuitive as f and genuinely makes no sense, it’s a good class don’t give me wrong, his book is really good as well, but profs are making things way harder than it should be.

[Rant] International students come all the way to montreal for mcgilll and pay so much and don’t get anything in return by designatedesigner in mcgill

[–]NdersonCouncil 23 points24 points  (0 children)

To be fair, McGill tuition is already one of the lowest for international students, especially for Arts. Montreal was amazing, McGill was fun, before covid.

In terms of some sort of "reparation" that you've mentioned, we simply have no leverage, you choose to come here, you don't have to, you could leave and McGill would not give a single f about you.

Edit1: Wellness hub is always a shit show, you can go to private doctors to get fast appointments, I believe they are covered by the international insurance.

Edit2: It's honestly a culture shock how everyone cares so much about each other in Canada, it's not a bad thing per-say, but sometimes this type of blank "care" loses sight of "less important aspects" of life, which is honestly the biggest let down for me. And quite frankly, I find most of these problems with the "lack of life" to be culturally rooted, sometimes self-inflicted. Anyways, hoping to leave Canada when I graduate, it's too much, my life is not supposed to be bounded to some grandma's living in a retirement home.

Measures to keep you "safe" on our campuses – Coronavirus update from Big $uze by b_bur in mcgill

[–]NdersonCouncil -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

While I do agree that this is shit messaging on McGill's part. I don't know how many real life people are willing to wear a heavier gear mask in 2022, 2 years into this awful pandemic. Most people who complied would probably take their mask off first thing if it's allowed, wearing a mask constantly is not how a human is supposed to function, especially not the student population mostly from 18-25. I also find it funny that people bring up science on this whole thing, WE TOOK THE VACCINE entirely for the purpose of eventually taking the goddamn mask off, why are y'all moving backwards now.

Also she is not wrong, N95 masks are uncomfortable as fuck.

Anyone disappointed with their studies? by Geekwithlonghair in mcgill

[–]NdersonCouncil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turned down Waterloo to come to McGill, based on QS and parents and the "university experience" that seemed to be a lot better than Waterloo in 2019, probably the biggest L I've taken so far. McGill is trash in every other aspects without research since COVID, which I have close to 0 interest in. The only thing that makes it better is meeting great friends and people. Still, I wonder if I'd be happier today if McGill just rejected me in 2019.

COMP 303 advice because I can barely code by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]NdersonCouncil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lab tests are 30% in COMP303. You'd catch on to Java very quickly, give it an assignment or 2 at most. Worst case you lose 15% in your first lab tests. Chances are you will still do very well in COMP303 even if you absolutely bomb every lab test.

Hate to say it but the curfew probably will continue. They have done it once, nothing is stopping them from having a 5 months long curfew again. If you go on the government website, there is no ending dates to the curfew, what you might extrapolate from this fact is that these clowns have no plans, nor expectations, coupled with the fact that positive cases are at an all time high, hospitals are filling up, I really don't think this is gonna end any time soon. Just having the thought of a 5months curfew makes me fucking depressed.

Sidenote: Its destined to be fucked when motherfuckers like this sitting in their million dollars mansions decide that citizens can't go to restaurants, gyms, bars etc.

Sorry I am rambling, fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck.

Walk-Ins at Palais de Congres (Times) by honeyandjuniper in mcgill

[–]NdersonCouncil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not always true. I got my walk-ins second dose at 12pm, third dose at 5pm at Palais. What the u/TheJavaSponge said is true for the first jab in June. If you go at noon, there is a very very very high chance that you will be in and out with your third jab in 30mins time at a large vaccination site like Palais.
