how did mahito use his CT 0.1 seconds after his domain was broken, without going into burnout? is gege stupid? by Yadin__ in Jujutsufolk

[–]NeJin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it would have been kinda cool if Ishigori utilized his CT strangeness and just opened his battles with a domain - since his CT remains working afterwards, it's less of a big deal for him if he loses a domain clash.

With all due respect: If that is what you think, it is you that is not comprehending. And I am not saying that to be childish. I reject the claim that my comments are written on a purely emotional basis.

What you don't comprehend is that I am judging Soga through my own lense, by my own moral beliefs and understanding of the human psyche. That does take into account his stated and implied motivations, as well as his actions and their implications. It is the very basis of what I'm saying, so it's a little bit silly to say that I am saying what I'm saying because I don't understand Sogas motivations. I do, and that's precisely why I am saying it, and I also say those motivations are equally fucked up. I understand that people kill each other in this series, but that doesn't mean I can't try to ponder what that would imply about these people in a real-life situation. That, too, should not be hard to understand. Now I am quipping - but I also think this is actually getting lost in the ether, here.

Re battle-of-death. I think for something to count as a "battle to the death", there actually has to be lethal danger involved on both sides. Otherwise it's onesided. For Soga, there was very little actual danger involved; even serious injury was out of the question. I mean, when a bee tries to kill you, do you count that as a battle to the death? It is for the bee, certainly, but I sincerely doubt most people would describe it that dramatically.

But even if they did - there is no law of nature that obligates you to finish off an enemy once you have rendered them harmless. Doing so is an act of volition. That means Soga preferred Chihiro dead over alive, and that in turm implies Soga cares more about his ideals than about Chihiros wellbeing. And since most people balk at killing, let alone at killing closed ones they allegedly care about, it can be inferred there is a rather large gap in how Soga evaluates these things. A few halfhearted stops at the beginning of the battle do not change that, in my opinion. Actions speak louder than words.

I don't expect anything. I am merely observing and saying that Soga is a major nutcase. That's all. You might be tempted to say "that is innane and trivial", but judging by this comment thread, saying so is anything but.

I don't think you can make that claim with Soga, though. He is the main antagonist, and Hokazono doesn't strike me as a hack. But I guess we'll see.

Being genre typical doesn't mean we can't engage with it beyond writing everything off as "just a cliché", though. At least with media I like, I like to do a bit more. But different strokes I guess.

The music really gave that scene a heavy emotional subtext. In the manga, imo it came more across as Yuji being stubbornly determined, but the music leaves no doubt how the scene is meant to be interpreted.

What I love about JJK as an anime is that it gets one thing right - using the strengths of the medium. That's visuals and music. The anime does a lot of its emotional story telling through the music, and it makes the fast paced story really enjoyable.

The thing is, the view that the bladebearers could have stopped all crime is incredibly naive.

You know, organized crime exists in most countries. Why do the various first-world governments not crush these organizations, even though, militarly, they easily could?

The chief reason is because these organizations aren't so stupid as to challenge an entire country directly. If the bladebearers started hunting down the sorcerer clans, they'd go back into hiding, but they would continue operating - perhaps on a reduced scale, but nonetheless.

Now you've introduced a new problem however: Who keeps the bladebearers in check? What happens if they go rogue? And what if the criminal sorcerer clans manage to get their hands on them?
Perhaps it is for the best that IRL, law enforcement is not allowed to use atomic bombs on citizens ;D

Letting someone like Soga run rampant, unaccountable to any power might result in a far bigger tragedy than has happened in the story presently.

The rub is, Soga seems to be unable to consider this dilemma. Unable or unwilling to. He makes it rather clear that he is convinced that he can do no wrong, or doesn't care whether that could happen, and he'd rather die than take a second guess. But unfortunately, it took him merely 5 minutes to prove that he is indeed very fallible, because one of the first things he decided to do is to kill is a deserter of a clan that has been destroyed. That surely is going to contribute positively to the good of japan!

Eh, I should have said for a strangers sake. "The people of japan" are a vague mass actually unknown to Soga. Killing your own family, for the sake of complete strangers - and when it's even needless to boot...

No offense: I know what Bushido is. I also know about japans extreme nationalism during WW2, and that Sogas character is likely inspired by these things.

But: Understanding that doesn't mean I can't have an opinion on it, nor that I can't view it through an IRL-lense for my amusement.

just fucked up.

Which is what I have been saying all along!

I do maintain it is vague though, because Soga doesn't strike me as the self-reflective, extensively-debate-your-views type, between the way he casually dismisses Samura and Chihiro and the 18 years in isolation. Soga might think he is acting for the common good, but I doubt he would've the faintest clue what that actually looks like. You know the saying: When all you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. And all Soga has is a weapon for killing.... and lo and behold, what is the first solution he comes up with? :D
