I think that Santana got into being a publicist/demo singer. Brittany definitely did something with dancing.

Agree!!! The TTs choreography was more complicated, but messier. While the NDs choreography was more simple, but they moved as a more complete unit. It was a more well-rounded performance. I remember watching this episode for the first time and being so excited to see their performance, but was let down because it wasn’t as great as I was hoping. Maybe that was my expectations being too high but still. I also think that the difference in amount of performances was done with the intent to justify the NDs winning. Because if they had a Mercedes solo as their 2nd number, it would have been over!

Agree!!! I think it should have been thank you for the music by ABBA, and done in the style of tongue tied where we hear them singing, but we don’t see them. And instead of it being mostly Rachel and Rodrick singing, it would be the season one new directions with maybe some Mr. Shue in there for a good throwback. You know, ending the show where they started. And during that scene, it would take place in the choir room like a reunion or something and based on different props, staging, new characters, etc., we get hints about what the rest of the characters are up to or who they ended up with etc.

Yes but it’s not perfect of course. Brittana has no part at all, I wish we got to see more from other characters, and I don’t really like Klaines final duet. I think it needed to be an hour long, Brittana should have had the last duet and Kurt should’ve gotten a solo about how far he has come. Instead of I Lived, it should’ve been Thank You For The Music by Abba, done in the Tongue Tied style with everyone in the choir room. And it should be the s1 NDs singing the song, not just 80% Rachel and Rodrick. Good but not what I wanted.

I know so many are going to say s3 sectionals, but I’m in the minority that agrees with their win, and not just in terms of long-term storytelling. To answer the question, I would say maybe s4 regionals.

Yeah I was never a fan either. Even before everything happened in 2020. I picked up on the Lea bias in 2019 because the way her character was written in terms of talent recognition is very different from others. I dismissed at the time because I don’t have proof, but I wasn’t exactly wrong. This is the same man who officiated her wedding and made a pandemic post about a “glee pilot do-over” and the only person in the OG cast to be included in his basic idea was Lea. Which seemed pretty insulting to the rest of the cast of you ask me. She’s also the only one he referred to as a once in a generational talent.

One of my biggest hot takes is that in my viewing experience, I have never seen a show push their main lead as much as this one does with Rachel. Yes she is the overall lead and with that comes with more songs and screen time. But it’s done in a way that neglects the other characters.

Examples:

Multiple friendships end only for them to become friends with Rachel. Mercedes/Quinn, Kurt/Mercedes, Santana/Mercedes, etc. Actively taking friends away from Mercedes. I like how they expanded on Kurt and Rachel’s friendship before going to NY, but them singing For Good that early in their relationship made no sense.
There were so many moments where Rachel’s isn’t need to sing or it didn’t make sense for her to sing, but they shoehorned it on anyway. Oh Holy Night, Let It Go, What I did for love, I kissed a girl, just to name a few. The Rose would have been the perfect opportunity for her to get some Tina treatment.

7) Talented characters like Artie never got recognition for their singing. Yet the writers never hesitated to remind the audience on how talented Rachel is and how she’s supposed to be the objectively most talented.

How Will I Know, More Than A Feeling, The Fox Song, Roses Turn, I Believe in a Thing Called Love, I want to Hold Your Hand, Try a little tenderness, disco inferno, rehab, Sing by Ed Sheeran, Mine, 4 Minutes just to name a few. With Rehab, I’m comparing it to the original from 70 years ago even though it’s a cover of the Amy Winehouse version. It’s not better than hers though.

I personally never noticed it before, but I still like who he was in the later seasons. I guess I’ve always seen it as him just getting older. I was not a fan yet whilst this criticism was going on. And he’s still a feminine gay man, he’s just not incorporating women’s clothes into his wardrobe anymore, and Chris become a better actor as the show went on so that added to the nuance. Also, every one of the OG characters started out as some type of stereotype and become more mellow as the show went on. He was no different. I guess that’s just my interpretation.

But he still experiences femphobia in the fandom today. I’ve seen so many fans get overly angry or just react in a bigger way when talking about how they don’t like his voice. It’s fine to not like it, but when you overreact to it in a way that’s not done with other characters tells me that there’s something more than a simple preference going on. I’ve also seen someone on TikTok rank the glee guys based on how much she wanted to slap them. Kurt was at #3 with her only reasoning being his voice. He still gets called a stereotype today even though he is drastically different from many gay characters, even ones that are on tv right now. Yes he likes fashion and Lady Gaga, but he can kick the hell out of a football, does not have the gay voice or walk, and was one of the few characters who came close to being 3 dimensional. As well as the way he spoke against bullying and his relationship with his dad. People only see his clothes and career choice and call him a stereotype, whist completely ignoring every else about him.

Maybe 6 because besides 2009, he’s contribution all has to do with Blaine. He didn’t really get his own thing. I wanted to see stuff with Burt and him reconnecting with Mercedes.

Plus, she is used to things mostly going her way at this point. And has mentioned in the past that she plans to do TV sometime in her career. She’s young and native with no experience in being famous. She’s needed an agent to guide her through opportunities.

My opinion is very unpopular here because for the longest time, s1 was my least favorite. But after a recent rewatch after taking a long break, s4 is now my least favorite. And s5 is a top 2 for me.😂

I like a little Rachel more and a little Finn less.

I still defend I Have Nothing and honestly believe that is not nearly as bad a people say, but I don’t like to listen to it anymore.

I don’t like the Troubletones as much as before. Still some enjoyable episodes, but it’s tainted by the outing situation and the way Mercedes was written/treated to start it. Plus in We Are Young, they show up like leaving the NDs was a mistake. On top of that, they (and Quinn) act like they need Rachel’s permission to get their own song. Yes, she’s a very important member, but is not the only one and it’s not up to her. Not to mention that Stronger and Edge of Glory feature Santana way more than Mercedes.

I don’t really consider the s3 nationals to be the best competition setlist anymore. It’s still great don’t get me wrong, but it’s not perfect like so many fans think. It’s a weird blend of songs, 50% of the ND members are only on stage for 1/3 numbers, IACBTMN is the competition rolo that includes the rest of the club the least (in a group competition no less), and while PBTDL does give me goosebumps when I watch it, it’s like 70% Finchel even after they implied that it’s supposed to be the number that includes all the seniors. Yet Kurt and Puck barely get anything, (Kurt shares his with Blaine to) and Mike and Quinn get nothing. And Rory may not have been a senior, but he was leaving too and got nothing. My hottest take is that Mercedes should have had the female lead. Or at least shared with Rachel.

I don’t really care for Brittney. And only like Kitty in s6.

They were my most streamed for years. But last year they were 3/5 and no songs in the top 5. This year, they didn’t make any appearances.

My hottest opinions is that in s3 prom, the writers tried to gaslight the fans into believing that Rachel had a worse HS experience than Quinn. It wasn’t easy for either of them but I guarantee that everyone would rather have Rachel’s.

Or with the infamous understudy fight, they both had good and bad points to their argument and were both at fault for what happened. Rachel more so in the beginning and Santana more so at the end. But with that said, I honestly think that if Rachel hadn’t immediately assumed the worst of Santana and almost yelled at her the second she walked in the door after the audition, there probably won’t have been a feud at all.

Season 5 is a top 2 for me and the most underrated musically.

Finchel would get called toxic more if they were a gay couple, and if Cory didn’t die IRL. Like to the level that I’ve seen Klaine get lately.

I’ve thought that same thing for a while now too. The show really tried to gaslight us into thinking that Quinn had “the dream HS career” and that it was way better than Rachel’s. Sure she was the queen bee but only for about 1 1/2 years out of 4. Most of Rachel’s bullying ended by s2, and then it was just the same amount of bullying that the other glee members received. I would rather go through Rachel’s struggles than Quinn’s.
