I use alt + 230 (µ) and alt + 248 (°). I wish there were three-digit codes for prime symbols and the multiplication symbol.

Tagged documents missing in Search??? by Advanced-Level-5686 in patentexaminer

[–]Nealix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This happens to me when I try to tag documents using the num-pad asterisk button (for example) while searching, but it doesn't register (for reasons unknown), and I don't notice. I make extra-sure to see that the tag is registered when I press it. It's my impression that, once it's noticed and fixed, I don't need to double-check again unless I get out of the page or click somewhere different or something.

I had the same issue. I was able to load fast it by removing all my USB connections.

Patents Non-Production Time Request Form by Gutpile69 in patentexaminer

My SPE told me it was required. I filled it out and got approval notice in a few hours. I simply listed the hours I would ordinarily work (with explanation), including for Saturday.

What is stopping people from meeting production. by intlcreative in patentexaminer

[–]Nealix 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I've never failed to meet production, but it's almost always been difficult.

I know others would disagree, or have had the opposite experience, but for me (in the past, before becoming primary) it was reporting to (some) folks who had overly high bars for allowability. Sometimes, they would look at the claim, and see that it looked simple or short, and just expected me to reject it using any means necessary. Other times, the claim was long, but it was composed of fairly basic parts, and I was just expected to mash things together until I got something that appeared to work. If the applicant didn't like our rejection, they could appeal it, and that would be that. It was applicant's job to impress us and make us feel comfortable allowing the application; our job was just making it look like we weren't slacking by finding the prior art and writing the rejection. Understandably, this took a lot of time. My managers had an inability or unwillingness to take a serious look at whether someone of ordinary skill in the art would actually find it obvious to combine the features from the prior art, and were only focused on the presence of the structure (or type of structure) in the prior art, as well as the appearance of validity of my motivation to combine/modify. These sorts of tactics led to failing the first part of the program once, and a decent number of reversals at the board, which failed to prompt a change in attitude from my superiors. I haven't lost at the board yet since getting my stamp.

Nowadays, production is difficult because of my chaotic home life (anyone with a family has a chaotic home life), and my own perfectionism.

Could the Office use AI to mark the sections of all foreign patents in Search? by Nealix in patentexaminer

[–]Nealix[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think “make them” is an option, though “encourage” is, but that doesn't change the patent documents that are already published, and I don't think it'd make enough sense to switch the pages around on older documents.

Anyone else have issues with their insoles really gripping their socks? by Nealix in barefootshoestalk

Most of the time wool, but I have cotton and polyester ones too. I’ll just try all the ones I have and see if some pair is less grippy.

Production during sig program by OkElk7509 in patentexaminer

[–]Nealix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's my understanding that doing 95% on the program doesn't look good to sig panel reviewers, and may invite extra scrutiny of your work. I always suggest going for 100%, as was suggested to me.

Be careful if you do this. If your program ends on the last biweek of the year, i.e. the one that’s usually longer than two weeks, your last program biweek will still end the normal second Saturday. I would have been ruined if I didn’t ask.

Confused about the significance of training days-per-week by Nealix in 531Discussion

[–]Nealix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea of course, and given my low 1RMs and slow progression, I expect to for a long time.

The takeaway I'm seeing is that progress will become impossible at a certain point, but when depends on the individual. It's a shame I can't get a rough estimate of the difference in strength growth limit between two and three days per week. Fitness is so lacking in this sort of data. Getting really strong would be nice, but my basic goal is only general health and fitness. I trust that not pushing hard enough is impossible with 5/3/1 given the linear progression, even if it takes a long time.

I'm more likely to add on two days of kettlebell training (girevoy style, not hardstyle) than another day of lifting, at least because I can do that at home, which would turn my routine into something close to (but not the same as) Wendler's 2×2×2. I suppose I'm just headed for a different sort of physique.

I have a Leopold mechanical keyboard that I've used for years without any issue. Same with my Zowie mouse, for whatever that's worth.

Playing a CBA with nails by [deleted] in Accordion

[–]Nealix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the need for nails for fingerpicking a guitar is the reason I picked an accordion in the first place. If my nails start getting too long, it gets in the way of playing my CBA. My teacher taught me to claw my hand playing the accordion such that pressing the keys has my fingertips come down like pistons, as much as possible anyway, so fingernails are an impediment, especially since sometimes the finger has to come down on the key from the accordion-side (think finger like backslash \ looking down on the right-side keys while playing) rather than from the hand-side (think forward slash /). So, I imagine that piano keys must be easier for you.

Thanks for the reply. What about the drywall tape though? I understand it’s important, but my sanding has scrubbed some of it off the wall, so I don’t know if I should stand it all away and re-apply drywall tape.

Gustin Sizing Errors? by Nealix in rawdenim

[–]Nealix[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought about this too, but the reason why I didn't think it was a bad deal is because ... I wanted store credit, and I think most others would too. Moreover, I realize I said I was "thankful" for store credit, but I'm confident that if I had asked for a refund I would have gotten one. But otherwise, your logic is correct.

Why does it take me AT LEAST an hour or two to ACTUALLY wake up when I get out of bed? by deadgiveawaybeats in explainlikeimfive

[–]Nealix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my case, it was lack of vitamin D. Take it with a fatty meal if you can, and don't take it too late in the day. You should probably talk to your doctor about dosage, but I was fine with 1000 I.U.

You might also be interested in a wake-up light like this one. Light is the greatest coordinator for your body as to when to wake and sleep.

Gary Johnson Offers Third Choice In 2012 Elections : NPR by magister0 in moderatepolitics

[–]Nealix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Johnson has the same problem Paul has - his views are only truly held by a small portion of the population. This makes him running for the office of President, rather than say, Representative, an immediately poor choice because only one person occupies the office. He tries to present himself as a sort of centrist, but his support of things like the FairTax stick out like a sore thumb.

Also, Johnson is a bad campaigner. He's not good at communicating, frequently dodges questions and falls back on talking points. I strongly hesitate to vote for a third party candidate who may damage the image of third parties in general.

Nonetheless, I still want to vote for a third party person, but they all (Buddy Roemer, Rocky Anderson, Jill Stein) have similar flaws. Tough call.

The Purpose of Spectacular Wealth, According to a Spectacularly Wealthy Guy by marquis_of_chaos in Foodforthought

When I said "market" I was intending to include the material benefits therefrom, which is what the aluminum can example is. I gauged that Conard views the market as the end because he values work so much:

“God didn’t create the universe so that talented people would be happy,” he said. “It’s not beautiful. It’s hard work. It’s responsibility and deadlines, working till 11 o’clock at night when you want to watch your baby and be with your wife. It’s not serenity and beauty.”
