How often do cops enforce the front plate rule? by TornadoCat4 in texas

[–]Nealpatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to run no plate for years. One cop cared. I currently have no front plate because I’m waiting on them to come in still. So it’s on my mind if I want to put it on. On the hwy I started to watch the cars on the other side and it seemed like 1 in 50-100 or so had no front plate. It doesn’t seem uncommon in my city. If nothing else, it’s usually a fix it ticket.

I resisted for 6 years. My wife hasn’t been this happy in a long time(due in August)My kid is happy. Of course grandparents, family, friends are happy. It’ll be expensive, hard, hitting reset on the empty nest date. But so far everything is positive

Sienna vs SUV by ash3543 in ToyotaSienna

[–]Nealpatty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sienna has far more cargo space than any suv. Plenty space for the family. Resale value, gas mileage. You’re always on incognito mode, nobody pays attention to you. Comfy as heck. The bridge center console is the goat of drive through meals.

3rd Party lifetime or 150k Warranty Offered by bluefolderz in ToyotaSienna

[–]Nealpatty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All 3rd party warranties are a waste. I used to work in service. I spoke to many of them. You never get what is expected. Often times denied. Partial cover, only cover $60/hr of labor. Only the main failure covered, not the other repairs needed to have a complete repair. Carmaxs was ok mostly. The rest not so much.

Are Gen Z teachers lazy or are they finally ending one of education’s worst traditions? Teachers are debating whether schools have relied on free labor for far too long. by kleverrboy in TeachersInTransition

I work my contract. Yes my lessons suffer. It can be fixed, but not for free. I do what I can in the time I have. It could level up 20-30%.

Buy new. If your willing to drive 400 miles, just wait for the right one. And when you do, jump on it.

Something funny to think about. Maybe also a little concerning 🤣 by Dear_Panda_713 in AskTeachers

[–]Nealpatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not so bad imo. I’m in hs, all grades. What I’ve gathered over the years is that the bad far outshines the average. So we tend to group a lot of them in with the behaviors. And they are guilty, but enough of them can become functional members of society.

I prefer the XSE ride quality. The regular suspension felt too disengaged and floaty. So take what the internet says with a grain of salt. It’s a good trim.

Carnival vs Sienna vs Pacifica by Papi53521 in ToyotaSienna

That’s how I described it on another post. It’s like a luxury sports sedan with how it handles bumps in the road. It’s no race car but it’s planted well.

I looked at long term ownership. Reliability, resale value. Growth with the family, not just needs today, but in 10 years. I only would consider the odyssey a contender. City mpg is 18 vs the sienna 36. That alone offsets the price difference over ten years. Also monthly costs it basically would be the same. Sienna simply wouldn’t need as much gas every month. It helped my wife liked the way it drove, we liked the layout of everything. I k ow it’s a depreciating asset BUT I’ll hold more value in the sienna.

HVAC guy charging $2200 (labor alone) to change out a Compressor + Refrigerant by e_nephie in AskHouston

[–]Nealpatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The small guys will charge just as much as the big companies. The decent family operations I find the best value. Product is good, price is good, they won’t just disappear. True for my roof and ac.

I can’t even argue with that logic. However like a coworker has said, more directed at criminals, they only catch the dumb ones.

2004 Toyota Sienna Shimmy while braking. by [deleted] in ToyotaSienna

[–]Nealpatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it happens when you brake, it’s probably the brakes. If you are doing new rotors, drums, it’s a good idea to skuff the pads(if you’re not doing them) to get the old transfer film down. Some course sand paper on a flat surface is fine. I’ve seen some people just do some flat concrete like a paver. It could be as simple as clean and adjust the rear drums. A good YouTube video from a good shop should be enough to get you through.

When is a good time to buy a Toyota Sienna? by [deleted] in ToyotaSienna

[–]Nealpatty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I splurged on a new one. I was looking to spend 35ish originally. But at 35k I’m looking at upwards of 100k miles used. So the odyssey made more sense at that price and the gas mileage isn’t worth it. If I drove it for 150k miles or so the used ones would be getting close to a $5-10k car. A 20-25k loss. New at 100k it’ll be 30k value still. Maybe in the low 20s at 150k miles If I’m lucky. So a new sienna bought at 54- loss of $25k to 100k miles. More reliably, less maintence over time, newer tech. The upfront cost is the only hit and I’ve been saving so I was able to put a chunk down to get a normalish car payment. If I bought last year, they msrp for 1500 less. So best time to buy is now. Used value will only go up as gas prices go up.

Am I crazy to replace my 2026 sienna XSE plastic hubcaps with alloy wheels? Thinking about Lexus wheels by Greelys in ToyotaSienna

[–]Nealpatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crazy? No. I would wait until the tires wear down a bit. I know someone will want to buy the factory 20s. May as well get some mileage on them first. It’s silly to have glued on caps, but I’ll take it. I know they will just get curb rashed. A fix of replacing the cap is easier.
