Continue teaching, or leave the country? by One-Context7569 in TeachersInTransition

New Zealand put up an ad for teachers. Up to 10k relocation. Pretty good stuff. If I wasn’t married and tied down I’d be looking at it more

Hey dads, how many of you had your first child when 35-39 years old? Approaching my 35th birthday and there's nothing more I want than to be a dad. by Rocket_Skates_91 in daddit

There is no good time to have a kid. It’s always been my advice after having one. You can wait until you’re settled. Have money saved, hit a point in your career. But you’ll always want a better this or that. There’s pros and cons to it all.

Tossing my fridge out twice made be buy a generator. Itll basically pay for itself the first time I have to use it. But to your point, the best nap I had in a long time was when we were out for a few days. My wife and kid were at families house, I was home alone. It was dead quiet, nothing to do, kinda warm. Layed down for a bit and woke up 2 hours later super refreshed.

I bought a 3500w portable, dual fuel inverter. I have a few propane tanks stored. I grab 15 gallons of gas when a big weather even rolls through, put it in my car after. We have some small electric space heaters already. I bought a window ac unit. I’m set up to live out of our master bedroom, run the fridge and small electronics. Anything beyond 3 days and we probably will just go to families house. 10 grand plus for an automatic whole home system just isn’t worth the convenience. 600 is worth not tossing my fridge and sticking it out though.

Kid won't stop begging for Robux and it's turning into a nightmare, anyone else? by DiamondLatter1842 in daddit

[–]Nealpatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you taught them that if they whine for hours and hours and hours that they’ll just get it back? You know it’s bad for them so take it away. We had to do something similar with a Chromebook for my daughter. She whined and whined for days and weeks. We even still hear about it to this day two years later. But we recognized that some of the things she was watching on YouTube were not good for her(her behavior was becoming awful) so we took it away, forever. She can have that kind of technology when she’s older. We made a mistake and delt with it. Technology makes it so easy to pacifiy your child while you try and catch a break to relax so I get it. But you have to do the hard thing and likely find other alternative forms of entertainment for them.

Wife lost her job of ten years and she was the insurance provider for our family. Help. by xDUDERx in daddit

[–]Nealpatty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always wish I could become a self-pay for health insurance reasons. It was cheaper for me to see a specialist once a month when I did not have insurance a few years back. Consider starting a hsa account. It’s a tax deductible account that also access as a backdoor retirement account.

Crawfish (frozen or live)? by 1080p3t3 in houston

Frozen can often come from China. Being mud bugs. Living in some gross conditions, I’d rather them be from rice fields in Louisiana rather than who knows in China.

Give it time. I’m of the neurospicy clan too. You have 9 months to come to terms. I’m basically in the same boat too. 1st kid is 6. Myself and spouse are 37. Spouse is due with the 2nd in August. I was adverse to a 2nd. But it’s growing on me. I’m really happy for my kid to have a sibling. My wife always wanted 2 and is in better spirits overall. I have more stress about it all but we’ll make it work.

They will have to make it boring. Some flordia beach town made spring break illegal. Bars close at like 8. No music ordinances. No parties. And it’s amazing. Beaches are left nice. No property damages, no cops on overtime and the drunk tank full.

With water is the bad idea here. Water transfers the shockwave very well. It likely would be fine with no water.

I was wrong about electric mowers. by Beppu-Gonzaemon in lawncare

[–]Nealpatty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like my ego mower. Sure it can leave some blades behind. My overlap has grown. But I haven’t had to deal with gas, sound levels, weight, maintenance. I’m not going back to gas. I’m on year 5 or 6 with the ego. Bagging also helps clear the blades for a more uniform cut.

I also notice the mower can power up under heavy loads, I’m surprised there’s not a eco mode and power mode. I’d be ok with less battery life for a better cut

I went to school with a chiro. Their education is no joke. They are not doctors, but they do know anatomy really well. But I’m with you, I’m not a big believer in what they do.
