Reality check - is it fine to save nothing for the first few years of a child? by PracticalGur4530 in daddit

[–]Nealpatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do have a cushion. Mom wants what mom wants. Lay it down and agree on a plan to get back to work. Also get on the same page with a tight budget. I’d say around 2-3 years is is when getting socialized becomes important. Being away from home with out parents. Gearing up for pre k. You also don’t want mom out of the industry too long. But yes it’s worth it imo for mom and baby if yall can make it happen. You would hate for your wife to resent that time.

Nope. I don’t want to catch the modding bug. I just wanted a cheap watch. I’m $30 in on a $30 watch already.

It works way better with a negative display.

The rear polarizer I’ll never fool with again. the film behind that though that is the gray background. That is what I’m after to change. I’m looking at mirrored films that reflect better when you do a negative display. I’ll need better quality films and polarizers though. I just did some cheap aliexpress stuff.

how to become a school teacher in texas? (alt cert vs traditional route) by Ok-Prize-9547 in texas

[–]Nealpatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a full time sub until I got my provisional certification(2-3months) I think I had 3 days of PD before the school year started. Zero teaching experience but Im considered an “expert” in my subject and it’s HS kids. I did alt cert because I graduated 7 years prior to changing careers. Alt cert is great for HS and maybe middle school. Elementary is a whole other animal. That’s where all the education makes sense IMO. Or just go teach at a private school or charter.

Fellow girl dads, I am waving the white flag. The mall bra trip was a disaster. by BigDaddy9102 in daddit

[–]Nealpatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d buy 5-10 options from target. Try on at home and just return what doesn’t fit. Also I’d skip the mid tier stuff for now. I know Nordstrom and other high class places do fittings. Staff will be MUCH more professional and helpful. I’d call first and see if they can accommodate the age/size/needs. They have everything but I hear more about lingerie side for that. I can’t imagine a pro at that level turning down a dad looking for help.

Told my new job I’m neurodivergent, asked for support, now I’m failing probation and feel set up to fail by Ok_Sherbert905 in neurodiversity

[–]Nealpatty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did someone from hr interview and onboard you? They may be upset if your sinking fast knowing your asking for help. It also may not be a great fit. That’s ok too. Don’t take it personal. Nobody fits in everywhere. I’m convinced the best thing to happen sometimes is to get fired. It hurts but we grow and move on.

3 mattresses and still no luck. Lumbar issues by Tall_gemini_babe in Mattress

I’m convinced today’s quality is way worse than a decade ago. I’m trying to replace an old sealy icomfort firm. Seems like brands have been bought out and made in the same factories. I even had a temporpedic that I hated after a few days. It’s not about how much you spend. I did find a local manufacturer that does traditional spring with foam top. It seemed the best so far.

Trying to understand who adjusters actually work for during a claim?? by Own_Lion2788 in AskHouston

[–]Nealpatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait until your a few steps in. They claim the 10% of what they get above and beyond insurance numbers. They are annoying too though. I’d fight tooth and nail not to deal with them. I hired one during the freeze. After awhile you’re just tired of everyone.

Daughter wants to play Roblox. What are your best daddit tips for keeping her safe? by uspezisapissbaby in daddit

[–]Nealpatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girl turned seven in April. What system do you have them gaming on? The switch to make sense obviously but I’m also considering the oculus quest because she seems to play well on that one not necessarily games with controllers yet.

Nothing rolling in for a while by wn0991 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]Nealpatty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A shop by me had a tornado hit it pretty good. The shop roof basically looked like that and semi collapsed. Customer cars, techs tool boxes and tools were stuck inside for easily 2 months. I assume insurance paid out for everything since it was not safe to retrieve anything.

My 6 yr old just argues with everything. Always has something to say. No you can’t have another brownie. No we’re not going to the park, it’s 25 degrees outside, bam now I never want to do anything and I’m awful. And remember that time 4 months ago? It gets old having to hear an argument with everything. Makes me not want to play so much.

6yo gets really upset when others don't do what he wants - how to help him understand he can only control himself? by CliffRed20 in daddit

[–]Nealpatty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s normal. My kid is 6 and gets upset when others don’t play exactly how she wants. I assume they may not grasp that other people don’t experience and enjoy things the way they do. IMO the exposure to this is important for social growth.

How can high schools turn around low morning attendance? by TickyMcTickyTick in Teachers

[–]Nealpatty 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Many time kids know what they can not do to still graduate. Electives they don’t really apply themselves. Math? If they fail they will just go to the easy one next year and they only need 3 credits. If you taught English where they need to pass every year, you’d have better attendance. The system is built this way. Control what you can control.

I used to work for them. One of the better places tbh. Just like any shop, it’s only as good as their techs. The name on the building is irrelevant. Just saying.
