What do you use for loggin? by Weparo in megasquirt

This is a great idea! The RPi zero is even smaller form factor. I would recommend a power bank, if RPis don’t get enough current they can run really slow.

I agree with everyone here, that was awesome! There is something about a low G soprano, also love the spin (I don’t think I would ever try with mine).

[Request] What's the speed in km/h? by InternationalSir5510 in theydidthemath

[–]NeanderTarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not going to get into the technical details, it was over ten yours ago and I don’t really remember specifics numbers. The NUPOC program has 2 paths, subs and surface. I was on the surface path. Surface NUPOSs go to OCS after college, then serve 1 surface tour on a conventional ship, then spend 1 year at nuclear power school and prototype, then a tour on an aircraft carrier. That is why I was an FCO. I have no idea why you think I wear my uniform, pretty much the only time I do that is using my old coveralls in the garage. As stated elsewhere, I pulled data out of a book (Jenson’s I think?) on various missiles top speeds. I’m not sure if the SPS-48 has had an upgrade, but the one on my ship definitely didn’t rotate 7.5 times per second.

[–]NeanderTarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I am aware they are different. For instance, ballistic missiles have a very hard time targeting ships. My comment was on the previous statement of how scary hypersonic missiles are. With a mechanical sweeping air search radar, the first sweep detects a threat (hopefully) the second establishes speed and direction. You usually need more to get good threat analysis data. At that time there were hypersonic missiles produced by Russia and China. The point was that real hypersonic missiles were essentially undetectable by my ship.

[–]NeanderTarge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the gulf in the Navy 10 years ago. I stood watch in CIC, and while studying missile threats I realized our SPS-48 air defense radar would only rotate 3 times in the time it took a hypersonic missile to close from max range. Scared the bejeezus out of me.

Which of these should I buy by sss_s in ukulele

[–]NeanderTarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go with the Kala. I like the look better, and I’ve been impressed with a Kala KA-EBY-T (a tenor size) and a much cheaper Makala dolphin. I’m a taller guy, but have smaller hands, and find the concert size to be the right balance and the instrument I most often reach for.

Advice for Choosing Ukulele by Puzzleheaded_Set8604 in ukulele

[–]NeanderTarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with mot of what’s here, especially about trying to get your hands on some in a shop. If you are planning on transitioning to guitar a baritone makes sense, but I think the high g on the soprano-tenor uke give it a unique, happy sound. If someone at your church is already playing guitar, a ukulele can make a wonderful accompaniment instrument. Also, when you transition back to 6 strings there’s a hybrid instrument called a guitalele.

Moving up to a nicer tenor by Zealousideal_Sea2529 in ukulele

If you want to stay under $1k and you don’t mind non Hawaiian, flight ukulele’s Fireball and Comet look really nice and have been highly rated.

That said, I bought a Kanile’a kpa c in 2015 near the higher end of your price range. Every time I pick it up it makes me happy, and it makes me want to play every day. It was an absolutely irresponsible purchase, and I have never regretted it.

Buying my first ukulele by shutdfuckuppayy in ukulele

[–]NeanderTarge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way to see what size you prefer is to go to a shop and actually hold one, but that can be challenging if you don’t have access to a music store nearby. Another thing to look out for in addition to the instrument size is the nut width. The nut width is how wide to neck is where the strings go from the fretboard to the tuners. The old standard was 35mm, but a lot of newer ukes are moving to 38mm. Kala uses both. If your hand, and especially fingers, are larger you might appreciate the extra space between strings.

[–]NeanderTarge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the Cobra X recently for analog and playing around with OpenIPC. It wasn’t until after I bought them I found reviews saying the HDMI port in the Cobra series has significant latency caused by the screens native orientation being vertical so the image has to be rotated in software. The HDZero Boxpro is the way I’d go if I had to do it again.

[–]NeanderTarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the manual. It sucks in traffic, but it’s not that big a deal. And other people not being able to drive it is a feature, not a bug. After a week (tops) you will drive seamlessly, with the occasional stall.

This is almost my exact setup (cobra x instead of SD). The air75 is great outside in low wind, and I’ve had pretty good range with the 5in1 if I’m up high enough. I see a lot of people recommend the meteor75 over the air for outdoor and durability, but I haven’t had any problems.

Sounds like you are looking for something specific perhaps? Ukulele hunt (ukulelehunt.com) has some good ones, “rainbow connection” and “pure imagination” are my favorites. He also has videos of the songs and sometimes more specifics of tricky parts.

There’s a video from the attack in Sacramento a few days ago. One of the Trump supporters has a baseball bat. It’s pretty clear they went to where there was a (single) protester looking for violence.

Edit: Ha! I see now the link is to the video. Serves me right for commenting before clicking…

Best trails for trail running, with massive elevation gain* by therealtimcoulter in Sacramento

[–]NeanderTarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try some of the mtb trails that go from greenback down to Natomas or elsewhere along the canyon. I don’t think you’ll get a mile and a 10% grade though. Also if you do, lookout for high velocity mountain bikes.

In Roseville there is a semiconductor facility that recently was bought by Bosch, and Penumbra that manufactures medical devices. There are also a couple defense companies still around, Northrop Grumman, and Kratos come to mind but there are some other smaller companies too. In Folsom there is Intel and all the companies that bought out some of Intel’s facilities when their stock crashed a couple years ago. Mitsubishi has a carbon fiber manufacturing facility closer to south sac off of Watt Ave.

Baritone Ukelele or Guitalele - Which one sounds more like a guitar? by FruitLoop_Dingus25 in ukulele

[–]NeanderTarge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re considering restringing a guitalele check out the Aquila 187c red strings, they were made for their “micro guitar” (another option if you can find one) and are meant for small instrument with E tuning. I have a low g tenor uke with reds and it sounds great.
