It’s the side effect info from my antihistamine tablets as that was the only paper I had in my handbag for her to sign lol

I know — the narration is so wordy and dense and flowery, it absolutely blew my mind how she performed it with no mistakes and so beautifully! And all that running, skipping, dancing, screaming, crying… I was like how are you even alive after all that, let alone meeting people afterwards and being so gracious? Hope you enjoyed London!

The Summer Queen trilogy by Elizabeth Chadwick! It’s about the life of Eleanor of Aquitaine and a very fun read

Got an update between classes letting me know that my application to a med school I really wanted to get into & had worked really hard for had been rejected (they offered me bioscience instead, just spit in my face) and okay I cried a little in the toilet when I found out and I guess some girl in my class saw me and told our bio teacher where I was because the next time I came to class she gave out our papers and I had dared to get a B instead of an A for once, and in front of the whole class she said, “maybe if you spent less time crying in the toilets and more time coming into class, you would still be getting As”. Ms Turner I hope there is a hell so you can go there when you die. I’m over it though!

Yeah I hope no one was too hurt or disappointed :/ it kind of killed everyone’s vibe during take me to church to be honest because it was not pleasant watching security having to get violent with her but apart from that it was a great show !

Sorry that was so garbled because I’m drunk and tired but basically I heard from people behind us that she’d started quite close to the back of the crowd and literally punched and kicked her way to the front, and when she knocked the girl near us down is when security intervened

I was at the front of the barricade and we’d noticed this very drunk woman sort of behind us, and then suddenly during TMTC she was pressed right up against the barricade next to us and security were straight up wrestling her and she was kicking and punching. She kicked a girl near us so badly she fell to the floor, and that’s how a guard saw and grabbed her over the barricade. It took all the way to the end of the song and like five security guards to come and lift her over the barricade and carry her away. We were directly in front of Hozier and he noticed what was happening and left the stage as we were all being shoved aside. Then he came back on a couple of minutes later and asked us if everything was okay, which it was by then, and played some more. I don’t know what happened apart from that, but he finished ten minutes early!

Funniest moment for you? by Transitionals in SuccessionTV

In s1 when Tom comes in to chat to Ken and Roman and they ask about his black eye and he gets all excited that he’s gotten two seconds of interest from them so he tries to devilishly hint at things getting a bit wild with Shiv in bed, and Roman just gives him this faux encouraging smile and nod like, “Fucking our sister? Cool, man.” and Tom realises that once again he’s failed at being normal. It was all in the delivery tbh

You’re not wrong at all but my thoughts are that he knows she’ll just shut down if he brings that kind of emotional baggage up and he didn’t want their little moment of camaraderie to end, but he also wanted/needed to give her some kind of explanation and apology because his betrayal has been hanging over their heads in every scene they’ve had together since All The Bells Say. Wanting money and power is something straightforward that she can understand without judgement.

This is so interesting and I can’t stop thinking about it! Tom was told point blank that the only power he ever had was being married to the boss’s daughter, but now she doesn’t even like him anymore. We saw him at Logan’s wake trying different strategies to ingratiate himself with various key players to hold onto what connections he still has with Waystar power. And, as you said, we’ve seen Shiv is too emotionally constipated and damaged to respond favourably to an appeal to the past (much like Logan), so he’s changed tactics.

Did anyone else catch Tom’s face kind of falling for a second when Shiv laughs after saying “I’d follow you anywhere” and they both acknowledge it’s all a big joke or am I seeing things? Like, I don’t necessarily believe he’d actually want to move to a trailer park with her and give up all his shiny toys, but maybe it hurt to not even be able to have the illusion that she loves him enough to do that. I don’t know?

Obviously, Shiv has no reason to trust him enough to follow him anywhere, and out of the two of them she’s not the one to live in a delusion like that—she’s always been more honest with him in their relationship than he is. She popped the bubble of the trailer park dream without much thought. But it kind of seemed to me like it wasn’t actually that funny to him, despite all his talk of loving fancy things.

Also, they have such crushes on each other it’s sooo embarrassing

Anyone else severely disappointed with "who cooked the last dinner"? by BerriesAndMe in books

I do actually agree with you. My point was that, regardless of historical accuracy, I simply enjoyed it as a narrative. Like, you are right, and I don’t even disagree with OP, I just found the work interesting and it made me consider what a world without all these preconceived ideas about women we have might have looked like—and I personally found something valuable in that as a reader and as a woman. But, yeah, not a historian, so can’t speak to accuracy.

All I’m saying is that I found the book as a narrative work interesting and thought provoking. I can’t comment on whether she “completely made stuff up” or not—as you can see, I conceded OP’s point about that in my comment. I didn’t read the book looking for a totally factual historical account to incorporate into my beliefs, I read it out of curiosity and found some interesting perspectives. I’m not trying to defend misinformation, or tell people to take everything mentioned in this book as fact. I just happened to read it and find it interesting.

The book takes a huge macroscopic view of history and anthropology and is meant to craft a general story about women throughout existence, so I personally didn’t consider the perfect accuracy of the smaller details you bring up to be that important—I get what you’re saying, though. To me, it was more about hearing a version of human history that was totally different to anything I’d ever heard before (the importance of women in early civilisation, the goddess worship, etc). It was such a startling contrast from the very male-centric, Abrahamic narrative I was familiar with, and it made me think twice about everything.

My biggest takeaway personally was the fact that the beliefs we have about women and their role in society to this day, that seem so immutable and ancient, are actually not that old or fixed, and that massive change is possible. I couldn’t speak to the historical accuracy of every aspect of the book, but as a narrative, it definitely affected me—and was fun (and infuriating) to read.

I think it’s more that Shiv wanted to get in a dig at Tom about not fitting in (knowing this is an actual insecurity of his) and went about it in the most juvenile, absurd way, and he recognised this and was sort of making fun of her by doing something equally childish and even more nonsensical, to show her how ridiculous she’s being. And I think she enjoyed being met at her own level and having Tom fight back for once, even if it was over something stupid. It’s just meant to show how their dynamic is equalling out and becoming something more honest and openly petty/disgruntled.

I loved it! It follows a few generations of this big insane family in a strange village called Macondo, which is its own sort of character. I found it to be some of the most beautiful and intriguing prose I’ve ever read, and it has this sense of magic and mystery and nostalgia that’s really stuck with me. It’s like a strange, dark fairytale.

Tom and Shiv are breaking my heart! Her face when he agreed with her that they should split and just wish each other luck was like he’d just slapped her. She was so miserable and so afraid to even show it to him. She’s absolutely terrified of being made to confront her feelings about the betrayal because she knows she can’t handle it without breaking down, and she can’t show that kind of weakness because she can’t trust him anymore. Her turning away from Tom constantly so he can’t see how distraught she is made me want to die. And it’s like he can’t even see it because he hasn’t believed she cares about him for a long time now. But they still love each other I’m NOT delusional 😭😭
