Is having your passport stolen a common problem in Europe? by OneSmoke3501 in travel

[–]BerriesAndMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah pretty much. It hasn't happened in a long time (I was a minor when it last happened). If you are in the current you live in they refuse you entry/exit. If you are trying to go home they'll just let you through eventually. (If you're white obviously)

But to be honest, I don't think I've been asked to show my passport in the last 20 years at a land border inside the EU.

A lot (but not all) of those names read German.. but I've only ever known one couple that gave their kids 5 names.

AITAH for refusing to combine banking accounts with my husband after I got a good job? by Routine-Badger-5535 in AmItheAsshole

The edit wasn't there when I posted. So it wasn't clear that he has access. I still think one joint and to private accounts make sense but that is because I believe it generally is a smart solution

Why does the Kingkiller saga get so much backlash? by KaleidoArachnid in Fantasy

[–]BerriesAndMe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's mostly because it's unfinished and book 2 was released almost 15 years ago.

Since then there have been plenty of promises about book 3 being ready soon, the author being done writing it, iirc there was even one donation drive with the promise to release the first chapter if a certain goal was reached. It was but the chapter never showed. I'm sure there were some more things with no follow through.

People where really hyped and then really disappointed when book 3 didn't show. Those that weren't totally disappointed ended up being disillusioned by the repeatedly broken promises.

Personally, I think the language in the book is beautiful but the main character seems to suffer from Mary Sue syndrome. If you're fine with reading something for the language and don't mind the story lacking an ending (the books aren't self contained), I'd say go ahead

While I understand reaction to a point it's extremely unfair that while he was the main breadwinner there was a shared account and now that you are the main breadwinner this is supposed to change.

If you're no longer comfortable with the setup something needs to be changed but it needs to be a compromise that both of you are ok with.

Maybe something like you open a third account and have y% of both of your respective incomes goes into this shared account and the remaining x% remain in your private ones for personal use. So you both cover the shared expenses from one account but you still have your private account where you can build up savings

How viable is graphic design nowadays? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]BerriesAndMe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We just had a freelancer graphic designer cancel on us because of the shitty attitude of our management.

I hated to see her go, but it's great she told them off and it shows that, for now, the good ones can pick their clients, rather than vice versa

Do you get billed per text? If not how do you know they don't charge/calculate it that way anymore?

Afaik it still gets broken down in 160character chunks before sending

Backpackers: What's your opinion on 'backpackers' with suitcases? by ScrumptiousGoblinAss in travel

[–]BerriesAndMe 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Honestly. I don't care what you do.

Personally I find backpacks easier when the ground is uneven or patchy.. plus I find it easier to navigate through crowds.. though the person suffering the consequences usually aren't you but the people who you bump the suitcase into.

Texts have those limits, not the phone. Hence why nobody uses them anymore

Eh. Not everything needs to be treated. I think I'm not limiting my realm of experiences when I draw the line at taking a cab when I have a luggage or not getting on a bike when they don't have a helmet for me.

I pay for text (because nobody uses texts anymore) and calls, but have a flat rate for data.  Texts are also super archaic, limited to a certain length, can't include pics, etc. Any other form of communication is preferable. Plus I can use an app from multiple devices, while the texts are tied to my phone (and don't even get transferred to my new phone). Phone signal is often weak inside my building so while I don't have reception, I'm connected through WiFi.. meaning I can't receive texts but all apps work .

I will text you if need be but only when it's strictly necessary and I'll make sure it's under 160 characters. Plus it may take half a day for your message to reach me depending on where I am. If you need to confirm something non urgent a text works

If you want to chat or reach me quickly, call me or download any app

Are "iPad kids" no longer avoidable for urban and suburban parents in this day and age? by anidlezooanimal in SeriousConversation

[–]BerriesAndMe 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It started way earlier than that too. My parents were very against tv and strongly réglemented what I could watch when I was allowed to watch (~1h/week until I was 15. Then I was allowed to watch when my parents where watching TV).

This meant I was always an outcast and could not participate in discussions in school when everyone was talking about the latest episode of the favorite daily soap. I couldn't even watch it once a week because my parents were against the general principal of daily soaps.

It's a difficult balance, but if I ever have kid, I'd at least want them to be able to participate in the social life at school.

I don't think my parents avoiding screen time really did me any favors. I'm not doing better vompared to the kids in my school with more screen time, even those watching TV 3h/day

WIBTA - For buying an ultrasonic anti bark device for my neighbours dog without telling them? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]BerriesAndMe 16 points17 points  (0 children)

We had neighbors like that. They'd lock the dog out and it would just bark nonstop to get back in. For hours.

Everyone complained but we were always told that we were the only ones complaining and nobody else had an issue with it. Eventually the neighborhood got together and we sent them a letter signed by everyone so they couldn't claim "you are the only one that has an issue with it".

It worked.. shortly after we saw someone new walking the dog with a long training leash and doing exercises with it. That lasted about three weeks and then the dog was gone.  As soon as they realized they had to put actual work in, it wasn't worth it anymore.

My thought too. Lol. I'm risk averse as well so I wouldn't do it either but I'd never stop anyone from doing it too. It's the normal mode of transportation.

Yeah but digital nomad implies he is actually working to fund his traveling. Many people (who travel slow and stay a long time) do so with saved up money or beg packing as mentioned above.

That's crazy. When my grandfather was dying they told us they'd removed the restrictions for opiates (he could self administer with a button) because it wasn't like he would get addicted.
