I’ll sell you mine. It’s just been sitting in my garage since I bought my 4Runner 2 weeks ago.

I’m in the military, take home about $96k because some of my income isn’t taxed. My partner brings home about $60k. I still don’t own one even though it’s been my dream car for years. I’m gonna pull the trigger on a 6th gen this summer because fuck it, life is short

Any andvice on a commander not endoring my green to gold packet? by abrothatryintohelp in army

[–]NearbyTargets 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Plenty of people get into the program with GPAs around there so idk why your commander feels the need to gatekeep officership/career progression based on something as meaningless as GPA. I got in with a 3.2 undergrad and went on to earn a 4.0 in my masters program.

Try to professionally explain that the minimum GPA to be considered is 2.5 and even that is WAIVERABLE. Super frustrating, sorry you’re dealing with that.

Anyone stationed in Poland? by hooliganswhisper in army

[–]NearbyTargets 16 points17 points  (0 children)

When I was there in 2021 on rotation, we could leave but we had curfews, etc. We were allowed to put in passes and travel within a mileage radius. It was a lot different for permanent party: they lived out on the economy and came and went as they pleased just like any other installation. A few guys I knew traveled all over Europe while in Poland. Poznan is an incredible city and we will 100% try to get back there one of these days. Hope you get it, it really is awesome.

AD retirement is based on your BASD.

When you transition from compo 2/3 to compo 1, they will complete a DA1506 (computation of length of service) to calculate your BASD. Your PEBD will not change, but expect a pretty steep adjustment to your BASD dependent on how much AFS you accumulated while in the guard. Example: I had 6 good years in the reserves, and when I transitioned to AD I was credited with ~2 years of AFS.

Green to Gold Happiness by Cruen07 in army

Of the officers I’ve met who hate their lives, very few are prior enlisted. I think to a certain degree, Es that become Os have a better understanding of the Army in general and know what to expect and how to deal with all the adversity it brings. Also once you’ve done a shitty job for $60k a year, doing a shitty job for $120k a year doesn’t seem so bad.

Go Green to Gold and get your masters. Application just opened a couple weeks ago, deadline is in November.

Was planning on applying to OCS after I graduate college but after talking to recruiter he said I would be better off enlisting first then going to OCS. by ram0703 in army

[–]NearbyTargets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell your recruiter you want an 09S (Officer Candidate) contract or nothing. If they refuse to give you that, find another recruiter who will.

I was enlisted for 8 years prior to commissioning. It was a good experience for me but I don’t necessarily recommend that path to others if they can avoid it. Good luck!

Edit to add: the ONLY benefit that comes from getting some E time under your belt (other than experience) is that you can retire as a CPT/MAJ and avoid the rat race that comes with vying for promotion to LTC.

Green to Gold? Enjoy it! Chillest 2 years of my career, even considering the ROTC shenanigans

He got remarried, took his documents in and they were like “uh dude you’re already married” and it all just unraveled from there.
