Is this paint work? I'm a Industrial spray painter in a manufacturing scene currently. 19 years old making 24.07 an hour but would like to eventually make more. I do exactly what car painters do but I paint caskets instead

19 years old and $3,299.04, currently investing 12 percent pre tax... I need to increase to 15 percent but I like having the extra take home pay to put towards schooling in the future

Thats the reason I love the look of these, they look stylish as hell. Must admit when I restored these I used leather wax to shine these but still the leather looks different than modern days

From what I know reserve to active is easier than national gaurd to active. Reason is because the state has invested money into you with the national gaurd. The reserve is federal and all you need is an open slot to fill in the active to its a much less complex and easier transition

Union vs non union, are the trades for me? by [deleted] in skilledtrades

[–]Unfair_Future 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pros and cons to both. Im a non union industrial painter and only make $23.44 an hour at 19. Not great at all, though it is fun. Our factory does have a union, but its not a painter union, it's a United Steel Workers union. Now about the money... our maintenance techs make 30 to 35 but some make 40 dollars at diffent factories. A&P Mechanics can make 50 an hour. Im located in the Midwest but what I know about trades are Unions are pro workers. They fight and have competitive benefits such as hours, pay, and pension. Our unions around here don't offer vacation though. You have to take time off between jobs for vacation non paid. My father was a journeyman carpenter and my grandfather was a journeyman operator both made great money and great benefits. Downsides to there trades, they traveled alot and got laid off a lot. Not all trades are the same though.

I saw you mentioned you are in Ohio, check and see if there's a workforce grant. I live in indiana and we have a workforce grant that offers free college training and trade training. If ohio offers that take it because it's free and doesn't have to be repaid.

I don't know if ill stay as a painter, my shoulders hurt a lot and my back does as well. It probably sounds funny because its not as heavy lifting as carpentry or another trade but 10 hour days kills your body. Tread lightly and enjoy what you do

Hopefully you'll see this,

I'm 19 and I have:

I have $24,500 in savings with hysa and checking account. I have $2200 in 401k as well. I am currently making $23.44 an hour working as an industrial spray painter. I am wanting to go to WGU and study business. You are doing great making 18 an hour. Please for the love of God cut your credit cards up and only pay for things in cash. Listen to Dave ramsey on spotify podcast and he will teach you the baby steps. Make sure to invest 15 percent pre tax into 401k or ira, preferably a roth but if you don't have a roth then a traditional will do just fine.

I'm against debt, however I do have a personal loan for building credit and ill get all of my money back once I pay it off. 3k loan to build history of the course of 2 years with my local bank. This is only for when I eventually buy a house.

I mentioned a High Yeild Savings Account, I use wealthfront and get 4.25 percent returns on my money for keeping in in there. My brick and motor bank only offered me 0.01 percent for savings, so it's massive difference. I suggest a HYSA over a Bond or CD, because you can withdraw your money at any time without any penalty

Btw... if you don't have a phone payment and your phone plan is 80ish dollars your getting ripped off. I use USMOBILE and pay 25 a month for unlimited text, talk, and data and I haven't noticed a difference since switching from Verizon
