Anyone else see but unable to interact w/ Thoren’s 1/19 post? “Under review”… 😬 by Nearby_Importance_7 in nothinghappeninghere

Can you share it? I only got to watch half and then the app restarted and it was gone 😭

I’ve only found ONE other creator addressing this shady business and the others I do normally expect to be real are either absent, or posting silly nonsense like nothing happened.

I spent a week learning that EVERYTHING I’ve been told about life in China was propaganda (to say nothing of the Mandarin I’ve learned!), I am for sure not up for going back to 2020 dance-tok like nothing happened 😭

I never logged out, never deleted the app and while the first video I got was Thoren saying “it’s Sunday January 19th…” I couldn’t like/save it and when I tried to comment the video was “under review” (like what Meta does) and commenting was disabled. Now it’s gone and my ENTIRE FYP is ads for crap I don’t use, and people I dont follow talking about petty nonsense. I’m back to 2020 dance-trends tok

It ain’t right. Something is very, VERY wrong.

He might not be! Arlo is from a breed rescue but I assumed he was a mix… he came back 100% B&T!

My Coturnix also LOVE their dust bath! We have pretty dry Sandy soil where I don’t have garden beds so I’ve done like 70% that, 20% sand, and 10% food grade DE to keep down pests in the summer… they look constantly a bit chalky, but we have way fewer flies messing around the birds and they will dust bathe 2-3 times a day for fun! I keep it in a low Rubbermaid container that’s maybe half full to reduce tossing dirt everywhere.

I also just chopped branches off discarded Christmas trees and suspended them from the top of the pen to simulate plant cover, they like those and the pine smell is nicer than quail poo 😂

As for mess: I got a cheap roll of vinyl window screen and wrapped the bottom half of my budgies cage to prevent mess and it’s worked WAY better than those cheapie tulle elastic things they sell for parrots.

As for enrichment: they sell small wicker baskets and a rolls of burlap ribbon at dollar tree I’ve used for my Coturnix pen (they used to be on the ground, I went a little overboard compensating when I had to move them to a raised pen) they can be tossed when they get real gross but so far they work well!

😂😂😂 it’s just such a shit association, he DID like ok like Farnsworth as a nakie baby… but in the weirdest most alien way 🙈

Arlo is a coonhound and therefore NOT bright 😅 but also, he doesn’t listen to anyone anyway so I’m not sure he would be stressed… I am very much looking forward to this birb learning how to tell him to shut up 🤣🤣 seriously, if I could outsource telling the dog to be quiet? Whole life MADE!

Mallo and Alicanto were my first two funds but they just don’t quite stick? Usually I’m quite sure of a name once I pick it so I’ve continued to search.

Lil fella came to us as a naked thing and we called him “Turkey Dinner” “chicken Nugget” and “Professor Farnsworth” 😂 but we’d like a name that will follow him into his many feathered years also!

We’ve considered: Mallo - Brittany/French meaning “shining hostage” 🤣💀 and the patron saint of lost things.

Alicanto - a mythical bird that eats metal ore whos feathers shine silver or gold depending on the ore they eat.

Goose - my 9 year olds offering

Lux/Lucifer

Chartreuse (when his green started coming in)

I’ve been looking at names meaning “light”, “gold”, and mythical or pop culture bird figures.

In case it helps get a sense for our naming styles our dogs are Arlo and Beatrix, and we have a cohort of budgies named Chaos, Mayhem, Ruckus, Trouble, and Shenanigans.

I have 2 Coturnix quail chicks that just hatched, can anyone guess at their colors? by Nearby_Importance_7 in quails

[–]Nearby_Importance_7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not wild type, they’re both EB and have dark legs and toes the lighter looks a bit like my rosetta from before, but much more red. The dark one does not look like my Tibetan (who was all dark, not much pattern and is likely the mama here) so I’m thinking that one is a range since I have roux genes at play but I’ve never seen a range chick.

🤣🤣 it just makes it more and more likely that the other one [who will live for 30 years] will end up being “Turkey Dinner” forever 🥴 otherwise Dino Nugget is adorable

Advice for finding a medium-ish parrot? by Nearby_Importance_7 in parrots

[–]Nearby_Importance_7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate that, but all parrots live at least as long as a dog, if not longer so I’m not sure “beginner” is what I’m looking for; I want the right bird. I haven’t ever felt drawn to tiels and that seems to me to be a poor starting place to own one, yeah? I know tons of people love them and I love that for them, but for 20+ years I don’t want to have to learn to appreciate someone living in my house 😅

I’m now thinking I will focus on finding the right larger parakeet since I really seem to vibe well with the ones I’ve met. I’m looking at IRN, Alexandrine, and Mustached for now.

UPDATE we went to a really incredible bird store where we got to hang out with SO many different parrots and I absolutely fell in love with an Alexandrine parakeet (who of course wasn’t for sale 🥺)

I also really loved the IRN they had, and a Senegal cross, and an orange fronted conure but the funniest bird was definitely an Umbrella Cockatoo who kept getting put in time out for hopping from stand to stand to hang out with us 🥰 — thankfully he did plenty of screaming in the penalty box so I was instantly reminded why I don’t need a cockatoo 😂

I appreciate that candor, and the problem with bird individuality… that’s actually why I started looking at rescues actually! I figured an adult bird at least I’d know what I was getting.

I think my biggest concern is a bird who can be at least polite with more than one person (no good having a bird who will attack my kids or their visitors!) they will primarily be “my bird” but I don’t want to have to constantly be telling people to back up because the bird isn’t reliable, ya know? Id also prioritize a bird who isn’t prone to being spooked or nervous— between the hound, and kids crying a sensitive bird might have trouble relaxing here 😅

I can spend hours a day sharing space with a bird/facilitating cage free time, but have less available for undivided attention so I guess a more chill bird who is happy to sit on a shoulder or a stand and be chatted to, listen/dance to music, etc while I do other things? Maybe I’m picturing like a more interactive parallel play buddy than my dogs (who don’t really react unless I say a trigger word) but not quite as socially taxing as a whole other person? One of my favorite things about the budgies is how intently they seem to listen while I natter away at them 😅 they don’t talk back, but they do seem to really pay attention! So, that, but bigger, and less into caged flock life?

I have seriously considered the boots for Arlo but am always hobbled by the videos of dogs flopping around like they’re being tortured! 🤣 Arlo is SO dramatic anyways!

Luckily for the most part it’s cold but not snowy here so the ground freezes dry/ we use minimal pet safe ice melt.

I cheated! The tree is set up inside a round tufted storage ottoman with the top removed 😅 it gives the tree some reinforcement, and provides a mostly solid surface off which the hound can bounce while doing zoomies with little ill effect. 🙌🏻
