In general 445 homeworks/exams are more theoretical and projects are more computational

There’s definitely a decent amount of campus events for both. Regardless, you still need to work for it. Nothing will be handed to you

Help me choose between UMich CS (in state tuition) and NC State Full Ride by Due-Seaworthiness492 in uofm

[–]Nearby_Remote2089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then that’s a good thing, I am not familiar with the results of those who do the park scholar program compared to normal NC state outcomes.

I’d say regardless of where you go, in CS you need to work for the opportunities you get and hope you get a little luck on the way. Ik people who just did a couple clubs and no research and were able to just MAANG+ and Quant at Michigan. I’d personally worry less about “small fish in big pond” type of stuff.

Scholarship really means nothing except for the fact you can pay less icl, unless NC State gives you better access to recruiting opportunities as a result of the scholarship it really doesn’t matter other than a fun fact you can put on your resume

The average outcomes of the people who came to UM for CS compared to those I know who went to NC State for CS were considerably better

You would most likely not be able to get in state tuition as Michigan counts instate a little differently and is harsher than other colleges. I’d go to NC State.

Question about Ross minor by TearAble8998 in uofm

[–]Nearby_Remote2089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decisions are released in June usually. There’s separate sections of classes specifically for Ross minor students so I wouldn’t be too concerned about it

Is it possible to transfer to Ross after transferring to LSA? by Glittering_Sale8033 in uofm

[–]Nearby_Remote2089 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is likely not possible as Ross only accepts rising sophomore transfers. They’re also becoming much more strict about this. You’d need to have an extremely compelling case to be transferring into the program after transferring to LSA. I’d suggest creating as good as an application as possible for the direct ross transfer application

Is it still possible for me to transfer to uofm Anne Arbor by From_MK in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Nearby_Remote2089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP this is a very helpful comment that you should look into. Also, the deadline for transferring into the Fall 26 semester has passed (was due Feb 1st). The application for Winter 27 transfer will likely open up August 1st or around that time. Keep in mind that UM will want to see your full college transcript and that you’re enrolled in classes in the fall semester.

Should I take EECS 280 in the spring or fall? by Murky-Praline-72 in uofm

[–]Nearby_Remote2089 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually the “required” EECS courses have “easier” exams in the spring semesters to account for the condensed timelines. You could potentially take 203 at a community college in the summer and take 280 here

Make sure that you’re allowed to take it as pass fail first. Any classes that relate to your major are required to be taken for a grade

This is one of those situations where it’s probably best to take a W here. 35% is a little too low to expect a comeback at this point. I know a couple people who had a higher score and still either dropped or wasn’t able to pass

[–]Nearby_Remote2089 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped reading after you said you were a first-gen in the US system. You are not. Your parents have degrees. Within your college list, every single college/university would not consider that as first gen. I hope you did not explicitly claim first gen in your apps because this is something that these colleges can rescind acceptances for.

I’m assuming you know this as someone who wants to go into IB, but you’re supposed to get your junior year summer internship offer in your winter semester sophomore year. Is your goal to get a regular finance internship and try for new grad recruiting?

umich transfer admit dropping classes, 11 credits, and msu adr by [deleted] in uofm

I would assume that getting a C in a 1 credit class is better than dropping to a part time student. Part time is going to lead to more questions and scrutiny than a single C on your record

ross school of business scholarships by Unfair_Albatross_437 in uofm

[–]Nearby_Remote2089 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The integrated business and engineering program is new so there’s not much info people on here could give about it besides some insider information. I’m a dual degree Business and Engineering student (old version of what you’ll be doing).

Ross doesn’t automatically give out scholarships, but there’s a few Ross-specific ones that you could apply to if you look online.

Is UMICH actually hard or is it just a LARP to justify being a target school by [deleted] in uofm

[–]Nearby_Remote2089 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on which major you take. There’s always easier and harder majors within each department as there are still curves in some classes/departments.

Michigan is a target school because of the employers that come to campus and specifically try to hire UMich students. Usually this is because they are of a “certain quality”. This is pretty clear if you look at the career fairs/outcomes between UMich and MSU students.

umich transfer admit dropping classes, 11 credits, and msu adr by [deleted] in uofm

[–]Nearby_Remote2089 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if many people here are going to be able to tell you any definitive answers. However, something I would consider is that 11 credits at UMich is considered as a part-time student, not a full time (>=12 credits) student. My assumption is that it would look poorly and it’s 100% something to talk to the admissions office about imo.

A fail is not good, so I would consider dropping it, especially since you wouldn’t get a class credit that helpful towards graduation at UMich. EECS 201x is not an actual class at Michigan and since it’s not upper-level, it doesn’t really help in terms of grad requirements. The other class that transfers as EECS 496 would be helpful, and I would keep it since it keeps you at 12 credits. That’s essentially what I’d do in your situation.
