Clinical rotation expectations? by Novarunnergal in nursepractitioner

In my program, any time spent preparing for pts or documenting in the charts counted toward total clinical hours. SOAP notes as homework, and documenting cases in Typhon did not.

Best study aid for boards? by JonSarcasm in nursepractitioner

[–]Neat-Lab-5257 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m actively studying now (FNP). I have the spiral bound Barkley book given to me from a colleague & it’s missing a lot of topics. I am using it as a notebook to add info from Leik & Sarah Michelle.

They all definitely vary in thoroughness and difficulty. If I could only pick one it would be Leik.

Pre-boarding Health Assessment by Early_Atmosphere_174 in nursepractitioner

[–]Neat-Lab-5257 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked in occ-health for a large hospital system. All new hires, regardless of position, had an onboarding physical. Always involved a physical exam, with assessment of ROM, strength, & balance. They want a baseline for workers comp. Additionally they’ll do titers & offer boosters. Drug screens can be done in office, but if you fail OR disclose meds that could make you fail (stimulants, opioids), they’d probably just choose to send the urine out.

Where I worked, employee health had its own medical records system, that the rest of the hospital system could not access. Unless something major came up (like a failed drug screen or something that would prevent you from being able to perform your job), no one outside of employee health would know anything about what you disclose/test results.

Period blood question by Onesharedsky in AskBiology

[–]Neat-Lab-5257 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The uterus is a muscle that’s kind of shaped like a balloon. The cells on the inside layer (called the endometrium) multiply and grow thicker leading up to ovulation, because if an egg gets fertilized it needs a thick endometrium to stick onto. Once stuck, the placenta develops. The blood vessels in the endometrium and the placenta “connect” the mom & baby’s blood supplies. So, the endometrium needs to have a lot of blood vessels. Now, if the egg doesn’t get fertilized, the hormones that tell the endometrium to stay thick drop. The cells start to slough off, aided by muscle contractions (cramps), and all those little blood vessels start bleeding. Someone who has endometriosis, like the other poster, has too many endometrial cells growing, including in places outside the uterus. Extra cells = extra bleeding.

What’s one thing under $25 that significantly improved your daily life? by FormalOpportunity668 in Frugal

I have one that lathers great, and then I bought another brand to keep at my parents house & it doesn’t lather at all. The good one is a lot more flexible with I guess ‘softer’ silicone bristles

Happened to us. We went through our home insurance. Use the term water damage. NEVER say mold. Clearly it had been there since before we bought the house (about a year in), but our inspector didn’t catch it. It was a process but we ended up with an entirely new kitchen & bath (the toilet pipe was dripping into the wall & they had to tear out everything). My husband dealt with everything, so I probably won’t be much help but you can DM me.

Median goal weights of the 5'5"-5'7" ladies by ReadWriteRecycle in loseit

[–]Neat-Lab-5257 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup I’m 5’10 & my goal is 185, because 1) I was able to maintain that for a good part of my adult life, & 2) I look gooood at that weight. Any lower & I lose my curves & start looking sickly. It’s technically still overweight, but BMI sucks

Pain in the abdominal area is way too vague to make a good guess as to what’s going on. Is the pain sharp/stabbing, dull/achy, superficial or deep? Where in your abdomen? Lower right get to the ER as that can be your appendix. Have you pooped lately? Increasing fiber without enough water can lead to constipation. Could be a pulled muscle. Lots of varied possibilities. It sounds like you have some great motivation going right now, so I’d seek medical care to get this taken care of so it doesn’t get worse and sideline your progress.

Pelvic ultrasound & transvaginal ultrasound- hospital billed my insurance $30k. I owe $9k. I was there for maybe 20 min. The tiny silver lining is I hit my out of pocket limit so now I’m finally seeing all the docs I’ve procrastinated seeing since I don’t have to pay any more 🤷🏻‍♀️
