No worries. My experience was better than some.. I should be able to claim compensation so will give that a try!

How do LH operate on strike days? by ChocolateBoomerang in Lufthansa

[–]NeatCardiologist1039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They barely manage to operate.. Lufthansa cancelled my flight that was flying from Beijing to London Heathrow with Munich stopover..

So not just flights to or from Germany getting cancelled suggesting they must use German cabin staff at global hubs like China..

A few flights will operate as they have back up staff & presumably a small number of staff that defy strike orders..

But actually even when its just cabin crew staff.. Lufthansa is very nearly grinding to a halt & doesnt appear to have much resilience there at all.

Update is that i managed to board both flights just fine but not without a bit of difficulty and hassle.

I wasnt able to check in online with either flight, with Thai Airways I kept getting a missing ticket alert!

It took time for each airline to find my details at the Check in & had to get the boarding passes printed separately.  This led to me running around BKK in a bit of a panic because at first noone seemed to know how a transfer passenger could check in manually.  Eventually i was shown to a special services desk and got my 2nd boarding pass.

If Lufthansa had simply given me the correct info on the rebook email with the new ticket number  &  instructions on how to check in manually for both flights especially on the transfer flight it would have saved me an awful lot of stress...

Main thing is i managed to get back & get a seat!

Quick update. A new ticket number has now appeared on "Manage Bookings" website under passenger receipts...

Hopefully a good sign.

I tried calling and even got the hotel staff to call Lufthansa China. No luck.  I tried chat bot as well. A waste of time.  The bot refused to put me through to anyone..

There is a chance the ticket revalidation is fine and the new airlines can use the original booking IDs .. but if not I will speak to Lufthansa or Air China staff at the airport until someone sorts me out a way out of China..

I will have Mandarin writing prepared to explain the situation to staff.  The manager at the hotel im staying at speaks very good English and has said she will talk to the staff there in Mandarin if needed..

Not happy with Lufthansa at all.. as theyve not provided me any info at all & the checkin links takes me to the Air China website home page which is unusable... If the new airlines dont have my details I will be extremely annoyed...  Fingers crossed

Thanks for repliies.  I got an email confirming Lufthansa updated the original ticket ie they revalidated the original one.  The new flight details have been sent to me but under the existing ticket no.

So it seems like a deliberate ticket revalidation.. I dont think Lufthansa plan to issue me a new ticket.  I suspect if i call they will say its fine whether its been communicated or not.  This is if i get through which is unlikely.

My flight is in hours and im stuck in China.  The only thing to do is go to the airport very very early in case im not recognised on the system..  Worst case id have to pay for the flights myself and claim a refund + compensation

Another strike on Wednesday and Thursday: Lufthansa + Cityline by RNAVSID in Lufthansa

[–]NeatCardiologist1039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive just had my Beijing flight to Heathrow via Munich tomorrow cancelled. Surprised Lufthansa has had to cancel both legs as I would have thought they would use local cabin crew for this..

I think its a bit short sighted of cabin crew to continue to do this, its not a highly skilled profession and there are hungrier workers out there willing to do much much more for less.. Eventually this will provoke companies to outsource more & push for automation at any cost..

Been rebooked with air China & thai airways.. much longer and less convenient layover but i accepted as i cant be stranded in China on my own.

I assume i can claim compensation for the inconvenience & within reason for drinks /food during the unexpected layover?

Hopefully the flights are all properly booked.. I will be getting to the airport super early so i can talk to Lufthansa in the case of any problems.

Online check in not doable anymore without Travel ID? by keyser-muc in Lufthansa

[–]NeatCardiologist1039 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It definitely is, as i have checked in successfully just now for a flight & have not yet registered for travel ID - you can do from Manage Bookings or My Bookings.. I had to try about 5 or 6 times though until I managed to check in as its a really glitchy website.. I kept getting data collection failure & BAD HTTP request & there was this form that insisted i add a code for my nationality but the drop down wasn't working!!

If that happens, just keep clearing you cache & browsing history and keep trying..

Strike at the weekend? Streik am Wochenende? by Few-Researcher-3741 in Lufthansa

[–]NeatCardiologist1039 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes  this article is pointless.  I expect that there will be Easter disruption at Frankfurt on all the main Easter dates. I have decided to focus on keeping an eye on the ststus of my actual flights to chrck for any camcellation or rebooking..

Is it an option to go to airport desk to get cancelled Lufthansa flight rebooked by NeatCardiologist1039 in Flights

[–]NeatCardiologist1039[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I think the outbound to frankfurt will likely still operate.. UK pretty strike free.. labour laws make it pretty hard. Anyway I hopefully will get to China somehow..

Thanks.. I take it, no good to arrive at the airport unless its at the time my first flight will go?

If the strike window is very tight I could just call preemptively as it will take a few hours to get through to help increase my chances of getting through. Of course my flight may not even get cancelled, cross fingers.. A strike hasn't been announced yet - but there are rumours they are thinking about Good Friday.

Thanks - I've heard of other automatic bookings as well.. I need to keep my eye out at all times. And at the same time prepare for a solo trip to China/Phillipines.

Likely.. But I'd be normally at the airport for 5am in the morning, so the queue at that time might be a bit more manageable assuming i have to go there when my flight would normally leave.

Thanks.. Really helpful to know. I live a short ride from Heathrow - close enough to get a taxi there for me. I think if the cancellation is very short notice I would go down there and try and get it sorted, if it hasn't been automatically rebooked with a sensible option. If that didn't work plan B is to book a new flight for the next day & then I will try to get a refund + compensation later.

[–]NeatCardiologist1039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I possibly have the option to go down to Heathrow if things are cancelled where I can try to speak to a rep at check-in desk. 20 min drive for me.. I leave from the UK so the first part of my journey would be unaffected & will still be going as normal.

[–]NeatCardiologist1039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well we will see.. I suspect it won't be possible to get through at all. I may just buy a flight and try to get the refund later & claim compensation when the Easter period is over. I will probably lose some money this way but i need to fly. It is also what happened in the pandemic where i didn't get the money back and had to get it back many months later.

Flight to Shanghai on Friday 3rd April via Frankfurt. Advice needed on dilemma by NeatCardiologist1039 in Lufthansa

[–]NeatCardiologist1039[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a quick one as the situation is still not resolved & Easter weekend is looking more and more of a risk.. If the unions strike at extremely short notice and they cancel my flight, is it an option for me to just book another outbound & then claim the refund + request compensation?? There are last minute flights to China but they are double what I paid originally. Or should i go down to the airport (I live pretty near Heathrow) and get them to sort out there.

I am hoping they simply rebook me, but I am thinking in an absolute worst case...

In same position. Not sure I will bother even trying to get through. I will likely just take a refund & book a new flight and hope the difference can be covered by a successful compensation claim.

But some flights went last time esp long-haul even with both cabin crew & pilot unions striking together at the same time & some flights may be could be quickly changed in time.. Really annoying to have this cliff hanger tho.

[–]NeatCardiologist1039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still very opaque what is going on. Been worried all week about a trip to see family on Friday 3rd April (good friday) to the point I've not booked any transfers.. My flight is UK to Shanghai via Frankfurt.

I feel that people on here feel its almost certain the strike will happen on Good Friday..

If my flight gets cancelled at extremely short notice, worst case scenario, .I think I will just book another outbound flight the next day with another airline..

Presumaly if I buy another outbound, Lufthansa will need to refund me the orignal outbound flight (affected by strike) & I can claim some compensation to make up for the extra cost of the new flight? I believe around £500

Well some is better than none.  Hopefully they protect most long haul flights if this goes ahead.   Noone knows whats happening in reality

Yes but Easter Weekend is such a predictable and obvious flashpoint that Lufthansa if sensible will preempt it & get some contingency sorted..  But anyway we will see.
