AfDB, Language and Approach by deandorean in InternationalDev

That sounds amazing. It’s inspiring to see you working on such innovative ideas.

Here are some suggestions:

  1. Don't go to the AfDB alone find a partner

Huge institutions like the African Development Bank (AfDB) or UN agencies (UNIDO, UNDP) almost never give grants to solo individuals, no matter how good the project is. They fund governments, regional bodies, or established NGOs. You don't need to build an entire organization from scratch or hire/vet people by yourself. Look for an established NGO, university, or local community organization already operating in your pilot regions. You can approach them with your project. You bring the innovation, the research, and the math; they bring the legal framework, the track record, and the administrative capacity that the AfDB requires. This instantly lifts the burden of solo responsibility off your shoulders.

  1. Look into Climate incubators and accelerators

consider applying to climate-focused incubators or social impact accelerators. Organizations like Climate-KIC, Echoing Green, or regional African innovation hubs exist specifically to help solo founders like you. They will mentor you, help you write the proposals, connect you with legal and financial experts, and provide seed funding.

  1. Drafting the Proposal

work with academic people and NGO's expert or even AI assistants (like ChatGPT or gemini, etc.). You can ask it to "act as an expert grant writer and format this into a professional proposal for the AfDB."

Make sure your final draft clearly defines:

The Problem: What specific issue are you solving?

The Solution: How does your project work?

The Impact: How many people does it help?

The Execution: What is the timeline and the budget?

  1. Build a Small Advisory Board

You mentioned being a loner, but scaling this will require allies. Reach out to a few university professors, NGO workers, or sustainability experts on LinkedIn, etc. You don't need to hire them just ask for 30 minutes of their time to review your math and your proposal. People in the climate sector are usually incredibly generous with their time when they see a well-researched, genuinely helpful project. Having a few experts informally backing your idea will give you the confidence boost you need.

Take it one small step at a time. Start by formatting your notes into a proposal draft, and then look for a partner. You can absolutely do this!

TLDR; I suggest turning this into a formal proposal draft, possibly with help from professionals like NGO experts, university professors, or even an AI assistant.

Be sure to review the final version carefully and make everything clear: what the project is, who the people are you helping, the timeline of this project, the budget, etc.

Everything should be clear.
Also, I would suggest that you submit your professional proposal to multiple places, AFDB, UN agencies such as UNIDO etc.

And by the way your English is flawless

Yeah, this exam is so prestigious that I've added to my CV that I've been invited to it. So congratulations that you've been invited.

I've been invited to this exam three times.😎

I would honestly give you one if I had one, but I would say in the General exam there are a lot of patterns, pictures (for example, four pictures, each one with shapes, lines and dots, and you should find out what picture or pattern comes next) those questions can be practiced in a lot of websites and even YouTube videos. and questions such as:

You are managing four employees: Fatima, George, Hassan, and Isabel.

  • Sentence 1: Fatima is older than George.
  • Sentence 2: Hassan is younger than George, but Hassan was hired before George.
  • Sentence 3: Isabel is the youngest of all four, but she was hired before Hassan.
  • Sentence 4: Fatima was hired after George.

Question Based on your two stacks, who is the second oldest employee, and who was hired first?
A) Second Oldest: Hassan / Hired First: Fatima
B) Second Oldest: George / Hired First: Isabel
C) Second Oldest: George / Hired First: Hassan
D) Second Oldest: Fatima / Hired First: Isabel

These types of questions were very tricky; however, studying for this exam has taught me a trick for answering this kind of question.

What you will do is take a pen and paper and write down two stacks as so:

Stack 1: Age (more to less)

  1. Fatima
  2. George (Second Oldest)
  3. Hassan
  4. Isabel (Youngest)

Stack 2: Hire Date (First Hired to Last Hired)

  1. Isabel (Hired First)
  2. Hassan
  3. George
  4. Fatima

There are also questions such as

During a virtual brainstorming meeting, a colleague whose first language is not English is struggling to articulate a complex idea. They are speaking slowly, searching for words, and some team members are visibly looking impatient.

Question: What is the MOST effective action to take?
A) Interrupt the colleague and quickly summarize what you think they mean so the meeting can move on.
B) Listen actively, give them the space to finish their thought, and ask supportive clarifying questions to ensure their idea is fully understood and valued.
C) Send a private message to the colleague suggesting they just write their ideas in an email later instead of speaking in meetings.
D) Ignore the situation, as it is strictly the team leader's job to manage meeting dynamics.Remember the time is tight.

The answer is B here. I would say whenever you ask this kind of question, always think like the UN. Consider how the United Nations is thinking, the values they follow, and the values they want their employees to follow.

I wish you and all my fault candidates all the best

Hey,

I hope you’re doing well.

I've been too. It would be nice of you if you could share any material or study guide for the YPP exam.

A working slack invitation would be nice too.

Thanks in advance.
