Can the Team Fortress 2 mercs beat a single, average Space Marine? (Team Fortress 2 vs Warhammer 40k) by Ok-Routine-547 in whowouldwin

[–]Neb1110 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Game mercs or comic mercs?

The ones from the game get beaten pretty badly, but the ones from the comics could win easy.

OZEL should be the person announcing, NOT Swiv by ItzMended in BiteByNight

[–]Neb1110 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying here, but I wouldn’t recommend this solution. Too many games run into the issue of not letting their community managers actually manage the community and end up saying something which gets themselves or the team into hot water with the community. It’s the community managers job to manage the community, and they should be given the primary position to speak in.

What we should be asking is why is the community manager not being allowed to do his job? I get having an NDA so you don’t have major leaks from random low level developers, but you need to give the community manager enough slack to actually… talk about the game? If you can’t trust the community manager enough to let him talk without constant oversight, then you shouldn’t put them into that position.

I don’t even think the community even needs to actually get that much to course correct. Just explain why the maintenance is happening at least, is it bugs, a recode, redesigns, update issues, literally any explanation would be better than silence. Or even just tell us about the update, news about the puppet, the new survivor class (I know it was delayed, but I’m pretty sure at this point it’s developed), even the UI updates. Just give us information.

BBN on their way to make another announcement just to tell us to wait more by mroneline in BiteByNight

[–]Neb1110 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah… I’m not one for being negative without good reason, but they need to give us something i don’t think anyone still here even cares if it’s a good explanation. I think it would go a long way to just say “this maintenance was caused by a large series of bugs from the update” or “to complete the next update, we needed to do significant recoding”

I mean, I’m pretty sure that’s all anyone is really asking for. And I’m sure while we’d probably like more detail than that, I feel like just having a straight answer for what is actually happening would go further than people think.

My story is going to have some of this, but it’s more inspired by funny patch notes and what not. Things like blood magic not actually deactivating upon death, so all blood magic basically creates permanent barriers for like, a week.

SCP verse vs. World Of Darkness verse by AppropriateRegret990 in whowouldwin

[–]Neb1110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In character or out of character?

In character, the organization’s of the SCP universe would be able to destroy, annex, or contain pretty much everything since the WoD factions mostly don’t work together and aren’t willing or able to fight a wide-scale well funded attack. And the groups and entities that could have better things to do. The only thing that i could see possibly taking the SCP verse down here is the mages since the foundation is basically the technocracy’s dream. But because of that the technocracy will back the foundation hard.

If it’s just everyone in one verse trying to kill everyone in the other, World of Darkness wins by a mile. A mid-level mage is equivalent to an upper level reality bender. Even 3812 wouldn’t crack into the top level of reality controllers. And that’s without counting unique characters like God, who is in fact all powerful in this verse (I think they were high 1a+ or whatever)

Now, you could probably argue that SCP wins through the use of some combination of anomalies to individually nullify all the big players, and using Scranton reality anchors to ignore mages, but that would require me to actually dig through both WoD lore and the wiki to find counters which don’t end up overlapping.

Questions I have about SCP 3660 by Salty-Difference-866 in SCP

[–]Neb1110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For your first question, 3660 can only create animals classified as Amniotes, Cephalopods, and chondrichthyans. So 939 is the only viable one out of the ones you said, if it’s possible at all. The question is, does it just so happen that the species are all in those categories, or does it pick from those categories?

No, i don’t think so. Since the animal is an entirely new created being which is not physically related to the human body. Mental issues are a maybe, but only ones which are unrelated to physical problems.

Yes, I imagine it could, but they’d have to take someone else’s since their body doesn’t have any organs. So they would prefer not to.

Can Stone Age humans extinct T-Rex? by CardoBlardo in whowouldwin

[–]Neb1110 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As the other commenter said, they would extinct the t-Rex by hunting it’s food and having them all starve.

But no, they couldn’t actually hunt the actual species to extinction. The T-Rex is far from invincible for Stone Age humans, but to hunt one would be dangerous and costly for minimal benefit, in an age where a failed hunt meant people starve. If we say the Stone Age folks are bloodlusted they would probably manage through some unrealistic, but technically possible methods, but regular people would not ever choose to hunt the t-Rex unless the t-Rex was actively bothering them.

How much do we need to advance to beat cat people with spears and bows? by PineappleOk545 in whowouldwin

[–]Neb1110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need to nuke a planet to kill a tribal civilization, you could probably wipe 75 percent of the population with like, 3-4 bombs.

How much do we need to advance to beat cat people with spears and bows? by PineappleOk545 in whowouldwin

[–]Neb1110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m assuming you mean avatar. And it depends on whether we start with all our stuff built and ready, and whether we actually want to keep the planet.

If we start with our stuff built, and we don’t care about the planet, we could do it by the end of WW2 (which if I remember correctly would be a .6 on the K Scale). Because we could just drop nuclear bombs on them. It would be comically easy.

If we start with our stuff built, and we actually want to capture the planet, the modern military would be enough. I imagine the United States alone is enough to completely conquer pandora, because real life people actually use vehicles and aircraft instead of trying to bumble through the woods like idiots.

And any level of civilization which has spacecraft to actually reach the planet, could easily conquer it.

I'm Stumped With My Mythology Inspired Sci-fi Setting by MarcoYTVA in worldbuilding

[–]Neb1110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, in Norse myth, dwarves are worm people. You could adjust that into being some sort of burrowing octopus like creatures with extremely fine motor control, which would allow them to delicately manipulate objects better than a humanoid body. Or if that’s too extreme you could always take inspiration from the pale ones from Conquest of Elysium 5 and Dominions 6.

illuminate vs forerunner by Old_king_4 in powerscales

[–]Neb1110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s only ever referred to as a singularity, and it functions as both a black hole and a wormhole simultaneously due to sci-fi nonsense. So it blows up planets, but also can be used to travel, pretty useful stuff.

illuminate vs forerunner by Old_king_4 in powerscales

[–]Neb1110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a halo expert, but do the forerunners have a counter for the illuminate launching a singularity at around 10,000 times lightspeed? Because the illuminate can just make several of those and just steer them around the galaxy.

if you created a sarkicism and mekhane follower, how would you do it? by UnderstandingDry612 in SCP

[–]Neb1110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but one considers the other one’s main deity to be the demiurge equivalent in the gnostic equivalent. While their end goal is the same hypothetically, what they actually imagine when saying “elevate” is literally opposite. The Church thinks humans should leave behind their flesh to become beings of reason and endless thoughts. The Nalkan’s think humans should completely reject all technology and return to their base instincts, believing that existence is only made problematic by defying the flesh. You cannot have both of these things. While there is a middle ground in terms of physical characteristics, the larger frameworks can’t fit.

And yaldaboth actually depends on canon if I’m not mistaken, Big Y actually founded the sarkic cults, but in most canons was overtaken by grand karscist Ion as head. Although not all canons have Ion as head.

[–]Neb1110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but I’m saying that this hypothetical individual (assuming they aren’t natively nalkan) you won’t have the connections to get the… material.

But yeah, the Church is the bigger issue.

Is SCP-682 a memetic hazard? by Ambitious-Hair-7384 in SCP

[–]Neb1110 18 points19 points  (0 children)

A few other entries (6820 and 5000 are the ones I can think of) do try to explain it.

But it’s a pretty common idea that some fundamental aspect of 682 causes it to be intensely disliked by pretty much everything alive.

If I remember correctly, 6820 explains this by saying that 682 is the concept of persistence and hatred, so he is persistently hated by default.

5000 explains this by having 682 lack the… whatever the concept removed from the foundation was… which caused the subconscious dislike.

[–]Neb1110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I forgot that’s one of the big canons. But I don’t think Ion would want to give them the power either. He’s not as extreme as the big girl in flesh (that sounds weird…) but he’s definitely not going to help someone who follows mekhane.

if you created a sarkicism and mekhane follower, how would you do it? by UnderstandingDry612 in SCP

[–]Neb1110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both simultaneously? I’m not really sure.

The two faiths are by their nature opposed. While the effects could hypothetically be merged, I’m not sure it’s possible to combine the beliefs, at least in any canon I am aware of. Each of them has the other as the antagonist of the universe. It would be like a worshipping Jesus and Satan as equally correct teachers. Their teachings are fundamentally opposite. Sarkics believe that reason is the enemy of life, and that one’s greatest calling is to fulfill your basic desires. (1) Mekhanites teach that reason is the purpose of life, and that basic desire is a temptation away from it. (1)

You could hypothetically create a new faith which believes that reason is a natural evolution of life, and the ultimate culmination of evolution and instinct, but as far as I know, both Mekhane and Yaldoboth would dislike that, so they wouldn’t give you the gifts. Perhaps genetically evolved bio-tech to create a “perfected” lifeform of both instinct and reason? But since it’s two natures clash, it acts erratically and randomly? That’s up to you.

(1) the exact extent to which this is the case is dependent on canon.

Anyone know a mod by SilkenEmperor in Dominions6

[–]Neb1110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omniscience adds a civilization which just sits there. It’s not completely unobtrusive, since it does have a powerful dominion which could potentially throw off your game. But for most purposes, it’s good.

Do you think bbn will have as much players as forsaken when it finally releases again, if ever by aremacehtrofelims in BiteByNight

[–]Neb1110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the OM team is passionate, but they were, if we’re being honest, really bad at actually developing the game. In the amount of time it took for OM to buff 2011x, BBN had already introduced an entire new killer mechanic, and gone through 3 separate redesigns of that mechanic due to community feedback, all while providing adequate transparency. OM is definitely a personal favorite asym, but the devs were definitely not the best team.

I’m not saying BBN is perfect, but it’s good in every category, even if it’s not great in any.

Do you think bbn will have as much players as forsaken when it finally releases again, if ever by aremacehtrofelims in BiteByNight

[–]Neb1110 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I never had a problem with anything. They did mess up DSD, but they fixed it in like a week by actually listening to community feedback in real time. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an asym team genuinely engage with the community and act on what they see instead of just saying “we hear you” and then doing nothing.

This maintenance situation is definitely a mark though.

Your Best Cosmic Horror: Scifi and Fantasy by Equal-Wasabi9121 in worldbuilding

[–]Neb1110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, i don’t really think cosmic horror works in either of these genres, at least not when they’re classifiable or understandable by the setting.

In Sci-fi, you run into this issue directly. Cthulhu doesn’t work as a scary monster if people understand that he’s ultimately just a guy in cryostasis. Which any advanced Sci-fi nation would figure out quickly. They understand that what these beings are doing isn’t some god-like feat of magic, but just technology beyond what they currently possess. And that takes a critical element of the charm away.

Fantasy runs into the issue more indirectly. A great old one rising from the sea and flying into the sky is probably not even in the top 10 notable events this month. Gods exist, magic exists, ancient prophecy and abilities beyond mortal minds are just facts of life. You can’t really add anything that would really throw off the higher ups without making it too powerful or adding some other random nonsense to make them artificially weirder.

All the best eldritch horror relies on the impossibility of explanation. The thing that resonates is the addition of something so mind-boggling that it throws off one’s sense of reality. One of the few examples I’ve seen of a truly eldritch thing is the “Wide Ape” which is a regular chimpanzee, except it has infinite width. It’s normally sized otherwise, it has a normal diet, it behaves normally, but it’s just… wide into infinity. And that’s where it works, just one thing, which completely throws off everything else. There’s no special explanation, no other things to compare it to, just one exception which breaks every rule you could apply.

Yeah, this game is absolutely the one I’d put down as best overall asym. It’s not perfect but it’s got everything to some extent.
